We have just returned from a very wet week at Lanefoot Farm. Like others, we had a lovely time and particularly enjoyed the stunning views from the site.
The owner could not have been more friendly and helpful. He was always around and never seemed to rest.
We pitched on the field in front of the farm, on a slight slope but it drained well and we had views over Dodd Fell and Skiddaw.
We visited the Osprey Viewpoint at Mirehouse, it was well worth climbing to the higher station as we saw all three Ospreys and a Red Squirrel.
We had good fish and chips from the Kingfisher in Keswick and a meal at the Coledale Inn - really friendly, and we saw Jess Ennis win the 800m on the TV - perfect combination!

Had a Great one week stay in July, plenty of rain, but it didn't matter, the site was set with a back drop mountains and was awesome.
The facilities were clean and Gareth running the site was really nice guy, who seems to work 23 1/2 hours a day, so always on hand if you need him.
The site was in walking distance of the local pub and a few minutes drive from Keswick. Had some great open fires.
Wouldn't hesitate to book again.

Fab site, everything quite basic but very clean and well maintained, toilets, showers washing area and handy shop. Loads of character with hens running around. Love being able to have campfire, real bonus. Handy for Keswick and loads of good walking. Whip latter forest 5 mins away and our toddler loved it there. Only minor gripe booked ahead but hadn't held pitch HOWEVER found us a great spot in the end.

Just returned from a very wet week at this lovely campsite. The site is situated approx 2½-3miles from Keswick just off the A66, and approx ½ mile from the village of Braithwaite. It is divided into 2 general areas – the Meadow Field (behind the farmhouse) and the Open Field (across the lane), with facilities in converted barns/outhouses attached to the farmhouse.
We stayed in the Meadow Field located to the rear of the farmhouse. This field is level/sloping and you pitch where you want, amongst wildflowers. There is a brook bordering this field (which drained well and didn’t flood!) and it is surrounded by mature trees and very sheltered. Unfortunately in our quest to find a dryish spot we ended up on a slight slope which meant a bit of sliding downhill during the night!
Facilities at the farmhouse were just a short walk from our tent. No road noise from the A66, just from the sheep in the adjacent field and cockerel. Views through the trees of Skiddaw and surrounding mountains (if you could see them through the low cloud/rain)!
The facilities on site were 4 toilets (2 gents/2 ladies), a drying/information room which contains three washing up sinks plus 3 free (hot) unisex showers and a separate cubicle containing a basin with shaver point and electric socket. These were clean and we never had to wait for a shower/loo but the site wasn’t that busy - the limited number of facilities may not prove to be adequate if the site was full. There were also an additional two toilets/basins in the Low Barn across the road which appeared to be a new addition.
The site actively encourages recycling with bins for glass, card/paper, plastics, general waste etc. Small on-site reception/shop stocking sweets, food basics, maps plus bbq food packs containing local produce. Ice packs could be frozen for 20p each.
Campfires were allowed on the proviso that you bought the logs from the farmer (at a very reasonable £5 per bag for kiln dried logs) and you were supplied you with an old car wheel and bricks for this purpose. Very friendly free range chickens wander the site and you can buy eggs at the shop.
No long list of rules, there just seemed to be 3 - keep dogs on leads, keep noise to a minimum after 10pm, and campfires out by midnight! More than reasonable requests!
Easy access into Keswick via the cyclepath/footpath which runs alongside the A66 from Braithwaite, or via the X5 bus which passes the site on a 30-45 mins basis and which will drop you at the site/outside Booths in Keswick - with the last bus home being 23:40hrs if you fancy an evening out in town! Short walk along the lane or footpath from the farm into Braithwaite where there is a general store and 3 pubs - all of which do food. Lots of footpaths nearby providing access into the surrounding countryside and Whinlatter Forest.
Braithwaite - we ate at the Coledale Inn midweek and had their “2 courses for £12. 95” which was very good value and quality – lovely views from the pub garden if it wasn’t raining! We also drank in The Royal Oak. Both pubs were busy throughout the week, with dogs, muddy boots and children all welcome. Good selection of real ales in these pubs as well as in Keswick.
To sum it up, we loved the site and location, just a shame about the weather! Its got the necessary facilities you need on site and a really relaxed atmosphere without the long list of rules that lots of sites seem to have nowadays. We can’t wait to return next year for (hopefully) a bit of sunshine!

Once we arrived and pitched the tent (we camped on the smaller 'meadow' field) we were able to stop and take in the stunning 360 degree views around this site. I went for an explore around the site to check out the facilities and found a more than adequate 4 sink potwash area, 3 showers and a single washbasin area.
There was also similar facilities over by the larger field area too. Toilets for gents consisted of a single cubicle, two urinals and single washbasin with an additional cubicle 'tacked' on in an outside privvy style next door.
There is a small shop/reception where you book in to the site. This area also is where you can buy essentials (tea, coffee etc) and although we didn't buy one, they offered a 4 person barbecue pack which seemed excellent value for money.
Keswick is around 3 mins away by car and Braithwaite a 10-15 minute walk away.
Previously we have camped at club sites and been happy with them. WOW what a complete difference!. At Lanefoot we were given the freedom to camp pretty much where we liked, we were allowed to have a campfire (£5. 50 for a wheel rim and some firewood) which is something I haven't done since childhood and totally made the trip.
Animals, don't forget the animals. There are ducks and chickens which are totally free range and don't they know it. There were two runner ducks (male and female) who regularly do the rounds among the tents, visiting each in turn on the lookout for scraps and titbits. Although very shy, were not a nuisance in fact we found them quite entertaining.
All in all an excellent site, run by a really friendly family in a stunning location. We will be back time and time again from now on.

Just finished drying our tent etc out from a rainy 3 night break over half term here!
Site is situated in a fantastic location within Thornthwaite, 10 mins drive from keswick and minutes from A66, so fairly easy to find.
On arrival we were told to pitch where we wanted and luckily as we arrived fairly early we got pitched on a level spot, ground was fine to peg into so didn't need to use rock pegs.
Facilities:- main white farmhouse building houses the shop where you can purchase your essentials including fire logs £5. 50 and bbq pack £14. 99). Washing up area had enough sinks and also a well stocked local info rack and up to date weather reports were on the wall.
There were 3 showers and 1 private basin area plus 2w 2m loos. The smaller field also housed a further 2 unisex loos which I think may be a new addition (and a welcome one as we were in the larger field next door) but hot water had not been connected up to these yet. All facilities were always spotless and I found I never had to wait.
As everyone has previously mentioned, wheel rims available for campfires and the local farm residents (namely chickens etc) liked to have a nose around which our son thought was great!
There is also a local village store 15 mins walk away with pubs, although we didn't visit these during our stay.
No park etc but loads of space and animals and our 4 year old and his pal never once complained they were bored or mentioned wanting to go to the park so thumbs up too from the kids!
All in all despite a very wet trip, we would love to return to lanefoot farm (hopefully without the rain!) as its one of those sites that has super views, totally relaxing and is a true campsite just the way it is supposed to be.

Fantastic site, lovely views and close to, but not on the doorstep of Keswick.
The owner is a lovely chap, there is a nice little shop on site and the owner is usually around to serve you. The showers and toilets are very clean, as there weren't many people on site we never had to queue for either but I can imagine if the site is full you may have to queue.
There are plenty of walks in the area, views of Skiddaw and Winlatter Forest from the site and the Royal Oak pub which is about 15 mins walk up a quiet lane is very good, the food was lovely.
We stayed in the shepherds hut on site and it was perfect for me and my husband. More than enough room for a double blow up air mattress, camp kitchen and all our other junk. It had electric sockets and lights and there were plenty of water points close by, plus it was in it's own private space with a camp fire, logs and a slate bench to sit on.
We loved the chickens and ducks wandering around and made friends with the ducks, they were adorable.
We would definitely go back and are planning to go later in the year. All in all a brilliant site

Fantastic spot, good facilities and a warm, friendly owner. There was excellent entertainment from the chickens, runner ducks, sheep & lambs and the nearby shallow stream provided hours of fun for the children.
We pitched at the top of Meadow Field. Apart from some sloping (which made getting out of bed a challenge in the morning), the location was spot on. We really enjoyed toasting marshmallows on the fire of an evening.
I rate the facilities as 8 only because the site could do with a few more showers and toilets. Everything was well maintained and very clean, so would be a 9.
A well stocked on-site shop has most things that you might forget to bring, and big jars of sweets just like a proper sweet shop. Lots of varied walks are just on the doorstep.
All in all, this site is a 'proper' campsite - reminds me of happy summer holidays as a child.
We will be going back.

The people were friendly and helpful. Nice/clean facilities but nothing special. Site is spread over 2 fields. Dog friendly decent pub & good food within reasonable walking distance.
We spent just one night here even though we'd paid for three. We just couldn't stand the traffic noise from the A66 which is just a few hundred yards away and goes on all night. Probably if the is wind from the South the noise may not be as intrusive. We were surprised not many others had made comment!
