Where to begin with this lovely site?

Beginning maybe

The sign saying Warning, Free range Children is highly adhered to. As there are many children running about on the site, which is a lovely thing to see. The little people breathing in fresh air and giving their parents a break without the risk of them getting injured.

The site is lovely with views of mountains and forests all around, which is nice even in a thunderstorm.

We camped on a slight slope which we panicked about when it started to rain but none of the water came into the tent, luckily.

The toilets were a bit of a walk away from the main field - especially in the rain and with the site having only one shower for women and one for men meant that there was a queue in the morning and at nightfall for the showers.

Getting woken up in the morning by chickens and ducks wasn't my cup of tea and wasn't something I looked forwards to, but it was an experience non-the-less.

I highly recommend visiting this site as it is a wonder to behold the amazing sights which are around the farm.

We will definitely be visiting this site again, as it was lovely and we most definitely didn't want to come home.

On arrival we found Gareth who is very pleasant and friendly. Given that this is a working farm nothing was to much trouble and we were made to feel welcome.

We pitched our tent in the Meadow field, which is large with space for several large tents around the edge and several moor in a smaller field. Pick your pitches carefully as the field does slope in several places.

The facilities are basic but more than acceptable. There are two toilet areas for men and women and a shower for each also. The shower for the men is in a large bathroom, the only drawback is that there is no extractor fan and it can get a little steamy. The shower is a power shower and as such there is a constant supply of hot water.

The pot washing area consist of two sinks both with hot running water.

There is a small shop which sells the basics for breakfast and marshmallows.

Campfires are allowed which is a bonus. Gareth will supply you with kiln dried hardwood at £5.50 a bag which lasted for a couple of fires, from a safety aspect he also provides a fire stand to light the fires in to keep them of the grass.

The site is very quiet and we had a great four days stay.

If you like your camping unfussy and without the frills of some of the bigger sites then this site is for you. Kids are welcome and there appears to be plenty of space to for them to play although there is no specific play area or play equipment for them.

It would appear that most of the pitches have the capability to be provided with an electrical hookup if required.

We went out and about into the local area and spent some time in Cockermouth, Windermere, Boness and Whitehaven all within an easy drive.

We will certainly return to this site and would recommend it.

Stayed at Lanefoot campsite with 3 other people, arriving Friday and leaving Sunday. Although it had rained for 2 days when we arrived, and was still tipping it down, the ground had good drainage and was not muddy or waterlogged.

We stayed on the big field and had a very good view of the surrounding mountains, the site itself is very picturesque. The ownwer has also converted a barn into a games room with table tennis, table football, tv and radio, as well as a fire, which was very welcome on a wet and cold night.

The site itself is only 15 mins walk a long a quiet country lane from Braithwaite where there were 2 decent pubs serving food. Keswick is about 2 miles away but takes only 10 mins in a car.

As far as I could tell there was only one shower for men and one for women, although I never had to queue, probably because it was quite quiet when we stayed. The showers and toilets were very clean and kept well. There is a little shop selling essentials and its nice that they allow campfires and sell wood for this purpose.

All in all the site was in a good location and had very nice views. I was able to book in advance without having to send a deposit and the owners were very laid back and happy to help us enjoy our stay.

I would definitely go back again and have already recommended it to one of my friends.

We new this was a basic site because of all the reviews but decided to use it as the reviews were all good.

If you like very basic camping then this is definitely the campsite for you. A lovely back to nature feel with the chickens, ducks etc roaming around. There are several choices of fields to camp - some are on a slope whilst others are flat.

The owners are very friendly and helpful.

The downfall of this site is the lack of shower/toilets.One shower for ladies with one loo and sink.Mens have one shower/sink.Toilet by reception and two further toilets by washing up area. Reviews have mentioned that new blocks were going to be being built as far back as 2007 but no sign of them yet. Had to go for showers at odd times so not to queue and as said before very rustic.

Its a shame as the site is a lovely spot and central for most things and has a lovely laid back atmosphere.

All in all a lovely holiday but disappointed with lack of showers for the amount of pitches.

What can I say ! we have just returned from this wonderful site .

The site is split into three areas around a small farmyard where chickens and ducks roam free all day.We were there during a heatwave ( rare in The Lakes ) and kept all our milk etc cool in the stream that ran along side our tent. The site facilities are basic but clean and have a real quirky farmhouse feel to them. Although only one shower each for male and female we never had to queue even over the busy weekend. They were free with constant hot water and very powerful a real treat after a day on the hills.

The site is well situated a couple of miles from Keswick and about 15 minute walk to village with two pubs that sold food. There was some traffic noise but very slight and never annoying.

There is a small well stocked shop that sold majority of basics plus eggs free range from the site which were delicious. My husband was thrilled they sold old fashioned sweets from jars !

Campfires are allowed in old wheels that are readily avaiable for everyone to use and logs are for sale on the site. The fires are the cherry on the cake for this wonderful site.

It is exactly what it says it is clean , basic

Old fashioned campsite !

We have camped for many years and have never recieved the wonderful attention we received from Helen and Gareth , they made us feel so welcome, nothing was too much trouble. . We count the days to September when we return.

This is an excellent campsite, the only fault was the lack of shower facilities although we never had to queue for a shower.

This Campsite is a family run site which gives it a more personal feel. Gareth would go out of his way to help you, even when my husbands lens fell out of his glasses Gareth searched for a screwdriver to fix them.

They sell campfires for £5.50 which include the wheel rim, kindling and a big bag of logs.

The location is ideal for Keswick, Whinnlatter forest park and nearby Cockermouth. You will never be stuck for a day out if you have a car, whether you want to visit the coast or one of the peaks.

Although there were children at the campsite, there is not much for them to do. But this is ideal for people wanting a relaxed break. Will definitely be returning to this campsite next year.

We have just returned from a few days at lanefoot farm and are already looking into when we can go back! Me and the other half spent 4 nights with our 2 pooches (one of them a first time camper) living in our tent in the meadow field. I phoned the week before and requested a spot in the meadow field as I thought the free range chickens in the main field would be far too much for our already excitable cocker puppy to deal with on her first camping trip.

When we arrived, our booking had been recorded and Gareth showed us to the field we would be calling home for the next few days.We easily found a spot despite it being a Saturday afternoon and set up camp. There were several areas in the field which had been recently re-seeded but there was still plenty of space for several tents and there wasn't that 'cramped and overlooked' feeling which was ideal.

The toilets and showers were clean and always stocked. I believe they are in the process of converting a barn into a bigger shower block but I have to say I never had to wait for either the shower or the toilet despite the campsite been quite busy. There was a fresh water tap close to our field and washing up sinks not far away either. The bins were a short walk to the main field and there were several recycling bins which was good.

Gareth came around on an evening to ask if anybody wanted a fire and was quite happy to stop for a chat when we enquired about the buzzards we had seen whilst walking nearby. Despite been close to the main road, you really don't hear the traffic and it is nice having easy access to the main roads.

We had some lovely walks around the area including up to the osprey viewpoint on the other side of bassenthwaite lake. We all enjoyed the full days walks around the area aswell as the short evening walks through the woods at the back of the farm.We were worn out as were our dogs (which really is saying something!) All in all a fantastic campsite which offered relaxation for those who wanted a rest, great walking and cycling opportunities especially as the coast to coast route passes through the farm. We look forwards to our return later this year.

This campsite was relatively easy to get to but hidden away enough so as not to get too busy. We were met by the owner/farmer and although we had sent confirmation of our visit, via email, we weren't booked in, however he was helpful enough and we found a good spot to pitch up for 2 nights.

The site is within the lovely surroundings of Brassenthwaite/ Keswick, beautiful views of the hills in the larger field, friendly atmosphere, working farm; we watched the sheep shearing and camp fires make it even more special. The site has a little shop selling essentials and for 20p you can freeze your ice packs, much needed as the weather was hot! Sparce facilities, only 3 loos and 1 shower serving quite a few people when busy, so patience is required.

Electric hook ups available if required and the ethos is to recycle, which gives it extra brownie points from me. The only downside was a very relentless Cockerel making it's noisy presence felt from day break but what do you expect on a farm I suppose!

We didn't visit the Village but it looked quaint with a pub and shop. Approx 1 mile drive towards the stunning Brassenthwaite Lake we took a 45 min walk to view the Osprey, this was spectacular, we were lucky enough to see the pair and their 3 fledgling, well worth the effort.

We have just arrived home after our second visit. This site is very basic with limited facilities but our midweek stay meant there were no queues for the shower. As soon as Friday arrived, however, it was manic.

It only costs £6.50 per person per night which is an excellent price for camping in the Lake District.

I hope Gareth and Helen continue to upgrade the facilities but don't develop the site too much as it may take away it's character.

I would recommend visiting The Coledale Inn in Braithwaite which happily accepts dogs and the meals are delicious. It is about a 15 minute walk along the very quiet lane that runs alongside the campsite.
