We have just returned from a mixed weekend at this site.
Firstly; the good bits:
The site is clean and well maintained and is in a great location for many attractions. Also the local village is very nice with great butchers, bakers and many nice pubs. The pitches are generous, flat and well spaced out and you can select your pitch on-line when booking. All of the staff we came across were very friendly. The site has one of the better play areas for the kids that we have seen.
Secondly, the not-so-good bits:
The gents toilet and shower facilities are in dire need of updating. The shower cubicles are very small and badly designed meaning you have to dress and undress in the communal area to avoid soaking everything [I would not mind this in a gym environment or similar but I don't think it is appropriate for a family site].
Also it takes several presses of the button for it to warm up at all - I must have been a sight hiding behind the outside of the door in the nuddy and reaching round to press the button to avoid freezing to death! I spoke to a staff member who told me the owners wanted to upgrade but had been quoted too much to do it- however, it just needs doing whatever the price. The ladies facilities were larger according to my wife and were just about adequate.
The other huge problem with the weekend was the wet weather which of course is nothing to do with the site. However, although we can cope with the rain it was made much, much worse by the ludicrous decision to cut the grass [and not collect it] on the Thursday as we were arriving - We were finding grass clippings all over the place and it was really awful.
All in all we would return to the site because of its location but only after a facilities upgrade and a promise not to do any grass cutting!

We arrived late on Friday due to car trouble around 10pm, but were welcomed like old friends (even though we had never visited before) then we were shown to our pitch.
Lovely site and we pitched right next to a lake. Showers and toilets on site were spotless. Indian and Chinese takeaways delivered, a thoroughly enjoyable weekend, will definitely be back at Pillington Hall !
We had no children with us on this particular occasion, however would definitely take my children along with our fishing equipment, plenty of room to run around and a wonderful play area.

We stayed here for the first time over the bank holiday weekend as a last minute break.
When we arrived we checked in and got our barrier key then drove down a very long and bumpy road through what looked like an industrial estate, none of the buildings were open with it being the bank holiday so I'm not sure if it would affect anyone coming in or out the park during working hours as a lot of the buildings/barns looked like they housed farming machinery.
Once we got the the end of the road we were pleasantly surprised as the park is quite nice, especially with the 4 fishing pools and one of them having a fountain in the middle (which is lit up at night)
we got to choose our own pitch over the phone using the map on their website which is handy so we followed the little road round to the rally field.
The pitch numbers are on the ground which was quite difficult to see and I saw some people getting out their cars to have a look for their pitches. They are colour co-ordinated, blue for non-electric and yellow for electric pitches.
The rally field was quite empty as I'm guessing they use this as the over flow field, but it wasn't a problem for us as we had plenty of space and didn't have many people walking past us.
The ground was a bit of a problem as our pegs would only hammer in about 1-2 inches, we had to use our spare metal pegs as our plastic ones had no chance and in the end we lost 18 pegs and a mallet after hammering them all in. We assumed it was just a bad pitch or maybe it was the whole rally field but after talking to a few people staying on the main part of the site (and seeing lots of flapping tents) they had a lot of problems as well.
We weren't too bothered though as the site itself made up for it, the fishing pools were all really nice and walking around the site you can see its very family orientated.
The children's play area was nice (although I didn't really have a proper look) and the dog walking field was good but I didn't use it as it looked like it was locked.
The map on their website needs updating as the dog walking area has moved to right at the front of the site which used to be used for caravans at one point (electric hook up points still there). And also the children's play area has moved to nearer to one of the fishing pools.
The main toilet block was lovely, plenty of toilets/sinks/showers but not enough to cater for the bank holiday weekend. Around the main toilet block there is under cover washing up facilities and a freezer for your ice packs (think this was free but didn't use it) there is also a hot drinks machine and a shop which is open at selected times.
There was also a takeaway which sold pizzas for about £8 and burgers for about £2. 40 as well as chips. We never sampled these so cant say if it was any good.
There are 3 toilet blocks altogether but only 2 seemed to be in use. The second one (which is closer to the rally field) wasn't that nice. It looked like a portacabin with a wall and roof built around it, there wasn't enough toilets inside and no showers so this made the main block even busier.
There are washing up facilities at this block but it is not covered. I think to improve and to justify charging £30 per night for bank holidays they need to build more toilet blocks or at least improve or extend the smaller blocks.
The fishing is open to everyone including the public. I think it was £8 per day to fish but we got a free fishing pass for one person for the duration of our stay (but I think this was a bank holiday offer - not sure)
As for the surrounding area there wasn't much around, not in walking distance but we visited Cannock Chase which was a nice ride out. Would definitely visit again but bring stronger pegs!

We stayed here last year for 2 weeks, and had a fabulous time, the grandchildren 5 & 9 loved the play area, so we had another 2 weeks this year, sad to say the play area is no longer where it was before, having been moved near to the fishing lake, I think it should be fenced off, as a lot of very young children go there without their parents,
The play area itself is nowhere nearly as good as it was before, hopefully it will be improved for next year.
I was also disappointed that the disabled shower had been removed.
Showers and toilets are spotlessly clean, free, and soap supplied,
The weather was gloriously hot, which was a bonus,
Being a wheelchair user the roads are very uneven with lots of stones, and the entrance to the shower/toilet block even bigger rocks which made it very uncomfortable or even impossible to ride the scooter.
Penkridge market is very good with lots of bargains to be had,
There is a chippy nearby where you can get fabulous fish and chips, there is also an Indian and Chinese takeaways who will deliver to the campsite,
We are hoping to go there again next year, (the grandchildren say so) I do hope however the play area is improved and the disabled shower replaced

We went this campsite for a weekend as its not far from where we live bout 25 mins. Campsite is easy to find and local area is nice to walk round few pubs and canal.
Each pitch is quite large and you still have space left which is great as we have quite a large tent. Althougth the electric point is quite a distance we have a 20 meter cable and this did not reach we had to hire one from the campsite with a deposit of £30 and £5 rental fee. Toilet block is nice and clean although shower changing part is quite small if your trying to wash yourself and a small child, shower gel is there in a dispenser which was handy. Plenty of sinks and mirrors toilets very clean. There are also a small block of toilets one male and female near the Cherry pool also with a water tap, and on other side of field another toilet block 3 womens and mens also clean.
Childs play area was good sandpit and normal swings etc plenty of children playing. Only thing was a pool near by which did not have a fence round so you do need to keep a eye on them playing.
Great staff on site friendly and helpful.

Just back from a weekend it's the first time we have been back to Pillaton since the price hike and change of layout and all I can say is! Why! The layout is now very strange.
The play area is now down a dip so unless you have one of the 4/5 facing pitches you cannot see the kids from anywhere else. This is also right next to one of the fishing pools!
I have never seen so many tents on one site. I am disappointed as we found this site to be very nice before, but now the layout has changed it just doesn't work, there are so many tents around the odd tourer plonked in the middle and a large grassed area in the middle which is not used for anything and just has no centre point.
Perhaps I'm fussy. The shower block was a little cleaner than on our last visit which was a plus.

Great site, Lovely location, good facilities on site ie: fishing pools, children's play area, clean shower block and toilets, shop. Great for weekend stay, close to penkridge market. Been to this site many times and always return. Kids love it here, great friendly staff, everything you need for a great relaxing weekend away. Nice surrounding area. Spacious pitches, not cramped together like a lot of sites, clean and well maintained site. Dogs welcome. This site is an hidden treasure and would highly recommend it to anyone :)

Just got back from site, nice clean site, disappointed that the shop was not open in the week as we did go on bank holiday and stayed the week. Loads of kids there who when the shop opened on Friday evening spent a fortune in there.
A little expensive considering there is nothing on site apart from small play area.
A ten minute walk from pitches to campsite entrance then a further fifteen minutes walk to nearest shop means the site is a little out of the way (which is ok if you like it that way}.
Good idea with the local takeaways who deliver to your pitch. Toilets and shower blocks are cleaned regularly, good point, but rather slowly, over two hours my wife had to wait on two occasions to use the loo, could have done with female cleaner to clean ladies loos, causes less embarrassment,
All in all though not too bad a site.

Having bought a new tent the mrs and I decided to take it to Pillaton to give it a try out over night. It seemed the perfect place being on our doorstep.
The cost of our stay was extremely cheap and we were directed to our pitch which was nice and level. And well spaced from the surrounding ones. There were plenty of cinder blocks around for us to enjoy a bbq and the setting was pretty beautiful considering we were so close to the M6. Only the buzzing of the nearby airfield ever broke the silence but it wasn't an annoying sort of noise and highly infrequent. The site appears to cater for the fishing enthusiast but this helps to give the place its charm with so many pools around. The main lake in the centre of the park looks pleasant of an evening when under-lit by flood lights.
Found that the facilities were clean and warm when we used them and there was even a chippy on site!
What also helped was the dog-friendly nature of place which had a separate area where our Staff could have a mooch around and a good play.
Though I've not re-visited I would happily recommend the site to anyone who just wants a break away from it all but don't want to travel too far. Really enjoyed it.

Had a fab weekend here over may bank holiday. We were a bit dubious because of all the changes we had heard of and of course the huge price rise which I cant see that they can justify.
New play park is good and heard they have more to add to it. Would just suggest a small fence between park and fishing pool (made me nervous watching kids playing in that one corner) They put on a bouncy castle on sat and sun which the kids loved. Hope the management read this because just want to say what a brilliant job the young lad did who was manning it.
Toilet block clean, beautiful scenery and nice people. Afraid to say we will probably not be returning, it was a last minute booking and we cant afford £30 a night very often
