Well, my partner and I decided to spend a weekend (Sun-Tues) here and we weren't disappointed. Every minor detail of the site had been taken into consideration. You would walk no more than 15 feet before reaching a drinking water source, the bathrooms were spotless and they only used the poshest toilette paper (no Asda value nonsense here) The guys on site were great.

We were greeted by Sinneid who was very polite and good at her job (as someone who works in sales, you notice these things a lot)The guy driving the buggy was sound and the only person I had a problem with was the other girl in the office who quite frankly should be working with animals, not human. Either way, that didn't touch the holiday at all.

I had a wicked time and would recommend this site to anyone looking to camp in the area. The only real qualm I had (which other people mentioned) is the shop and take away being closed midweek. Still, I can understand this perfectly as midweek, off season, they would actually make a loss by having it open and you can't really expect any business to do that.

The site is within realistically speaking 20-30 minutes walk from the nearest pub, the Boat. We had brilliant meal here, all ingredients, no packaged crap.

Stayed here monday to friday, lovely site. The showers were free!, clean, and always warm, they have shelves to put your clothes on and a shower curtain to prevent them getting wet. There is a coin operated hairdryer (I think it was about 30p, didn't use it) and next to that is a big mirror and a plug so that you can plug your straightners in!

Washing up sinks and areas were clean and washing up liquid was available free! The water pressure is amazing, which is good for the showers but when using the sinks you need to stand back or your clothes will get wet!

Was disappointed to find out that the shop was not open on the day we arrived (monday) as the 'little fryer' selling chips and pizza etc was one of the reasons for choosing the site as we have two teenagers. When I asked at reception the lady said 'its not open today' so I asked when it would be open and she replied 'friday'! Yet the website gives the impression that it is open every day. We left the site at 11.30am on Friday but the shop was still not open.

There is an area where you can let your dog off the lead, it is fenced in and is about the length of a football pitch, so more than enough for them to run some energy off. The children's play area looked very good for the under 12's. One more thing - take rock pegs!

What a gem. The small shop and fryer were great and reasonable. We had pizza and chips on Friday for 5 of us for less than £15. The playground is fab, we had 6 kids in our group from 2 - 12 and they all enjoyed it, especially the sandpit but beware the sand when wet stains clothes.

The pitches were a good size and the view of the lake and fountain lit up at night is lovely.

The showers were hot and clean and there was a hair dryer and plug sockets in the bathrooms. They even provide soap, shampoo and handwash.

The washing up facilities were good with liquid on a dispenser if you need it.

All in all a great site. Also a good little shop from one of the outbuildings you pass on the way in which sells camping gear.

We will definitely return as the price is great !

Well, been here before and loved it. Still do. In the midweek period only.

Weekends are chaos, kids going mental till after 11pm despite site rules, adults noisy and some worse the wear for drink. Loose dogs everywhere, site warden seemed unable to control the situation, although it takes a brave man to tackle groups of adults fuelled by booze!

Security gate, for which you pay £5 deposit on fob, never shut all weekend, come and go as you please seemed the order of the day. Assume shop, fryer, only open at weekend although didn't state this on opening times list.

On the good side, improved facilities eg, more loos, elsan points, lighting, waste water points good.

Pillaton really is lovely mid week, deer, hares, rabbits, many varieties of bird to be seen. The owners are very nice, friendly people who I hope continue to have the success they deserve with this site but at the same time think that sometimes popularity can be a two edged sword. Maybe a slightly lower midweek price would be appropriate if facilities are not open.

All that being said I would return again and again, midweek

Just bought a caravan and this was our first caravan holiday at Pillaton and we had a fantastic time. Beautiful site with views of one of the fishing lakes, and we were

Pleasantly greeted on arrival. We enjoyed Penkridge market on the Saturday morning and we also visited Stafford and Cannock town centres. Not so keen on Stafford, but loved Cannock. Excellent facilities, so clean and modern. We probably would'nt go again, purely as it was close to where we live (like I said, we tried it out for a first holiday and wanted somewhere local) but I would definitely recommend it!

There is not much going on for children I don't think, but that didn't bother us as it was just me and my partner and our dog.

We have just returned from a stay at this campsite - chosen due to good reviews on this site.

The site is large and attractively laid out around the fishing pools. Security was good with a barrier lifted by a key (£5 deposit on arrival). Wardens were often seen picking up litter etc and the bins were all emptied regularly.

Our pitch was a really good size - flat with lots of space between us and the neighbours. The kids play area was great although nowhere to play football that we could find. The shop was fine for forgotten extras (£2.50 for 6 bread rolls!). We didn't use the take away.

The toilets/showers were a disappointment. Whilst obviously cleaned regularly the floor was often muddy - especially in the showers. It was raining so not surprising but there is no mop / bucket to clean out after use - I'm sure most people would be happy to do this themselves when its muddy. They were also tiny - very difficult to help shower children. There were queues every morning for the showers. The water was only just warm - as was the washing up water so we had to boil kettles to wash up. When we mentioned this to a warden he said it was because the site was busy. Unfortunately this would put us off returning.

In the area we found Weston Park - 15minutes away with house / gardens / adventure playground / cafe etc. Quite reasonable admission prices. We also found Cineworld at Wednesfield on a retail park - quite useful to fill the day when its raining!

Hello all, just returned from 3rd visit to Pillaton.

All amenities have been upgraded, eg more toilet blocks and the new fryer.

We have been before and thoroughly recommend the site as per the other reviews, just one point to note for anybody visiting the site.

** This time we were on 'rally field' and would strongly advise on taking rock pegs as the ground here is just rock/rubble with a layer of turf, normal pegs do not/will not suffice, and take a metal hammer (claw) to knock in your pegs.

Other than that, great.

A weekend of great weather has probably coloured our judgement but this is a lovely site. It's level and dry (we went through a few pegs but this means that the ground is firm and supportive). The pitches are pre determined and this means that there is plenty of space around each pitch - when booking you have a choice of areas - eg near the fishing or near to the play area (which is excellent). The fishing pitches also look ideal, ie right next to the pools.

Toilets and showers were fine and the washing-up areas were good with take-away info to look at - we had a 'chinese' on first night to save cooking - good value and delivered to the site. We also got the kids a freshly made pizza from the 'Little Fryer' on site - there was a slice or two left over so we taste tested it (purely for the purposes of this review!)

Site was clean and well set out - security around into late into the evening and the attractions locally - Cannock Chase - the sweet shop in Penkridge - are definitely worth a look. Hope to go again

Just returned from this site about an hour ago. We found the site on the UKCampsite.co.uk search and had never been before.

Well where do I start, its just great and only 9 miles from home. We have never been so local before, but think we may spend more weekends at this site this summer than we will at home.

The pitches are huge, even though the site was pretty much full (mayday weekend) you certainly don't feel crammed in at all.

The kids just loved it here. It has the best play area I've seen on any site before and what I like is that the owners have placed it in the middle of the site rather than the edge or a corner. It also has a large sandpit and a crazy golf coarse.

The 'little shop' sells all the essentials and toys. The 'little grill' is a great idea too selling breakfasts, burgers, chips and pizzas and open till 11pm. We had a large pizza it was lovely but the biggest I ever seen lol.

Toilets and showers are great, very clean all the time. One day I popped in the loo on two occasions and seen the warden checking the cleanliness both times, most impressive. Soap in the dispensers and loo role always kept full and there's even soap/shower gel dispensers in the showers.

Another thing I noticed which may benefit the campers without a fridge was in the washing up room a huge fridge / freezer which I think is free to use. It just had a little note on saying you leave stuff at your own risk! I had a peep inside and only one little sandwich bag with a few sausages in so I guess the tenters may not have noticed it.

All in all a fab site which I think may become our second home this summer, role on next weekend.
