We visited Pillaton on route to Devon. We felt it would be nice to visit a site on the way down from Scotland and after reading the reviews on here and looking at the website, we decided on Pillaton. I'm delighted we did. What a lovely site. Unfortunately some of the pitches had to be sectioned off due to the horrendous summer we've been having, but the pitch we had was fantastic. Not too far from the excellent play park and football field that my kids thoroughly enjoyed, and close enough to the toilets and showers to ensure a comfortable jaunt across the field. The site is spotlessly clean, showers always hot and the warden and his wife are shining diamonds on this site. Always ready to help and share their wisdom, and they were very helpful throughout our stay. The 'little fryer' food was inviting but we'd already eaten when it opened - although the kids did buy some sweets and pop from it. Again service with a smile and nothing was ever too much. It is quite near the motorway, so you do hear a little noise, but it doesn't take long to forget its there and the sounds of nature take over. Cannock is a few miles away from the site and its got a decent town centre, but a word of warning, its not got a camping shop, so if you need any essentials you'll not get them there. It does have some nice cafes and shops though and half decent supermarkets for stocking up supplies. All in all we had a fantastic stay at Pillaton and its become one of our favourites. We will be back. A great site!

I was full of hope and excitement about visiting this site after hearing many good things about it. Well to be honest I was a little disappointed in certain aspects.
When we first enquiried about a pitch for the night, they advised us that it was a two night minimum stay, odd really for a Thursday during term time. However the lovely girl on reception managed to convince the boss that we only wanted one night and they accepted this in the end.
The price was £10 per night for the campervan without electric. Electric would have been an additional £5.
We were placed on the furthest field, next to the Chase View lake. This is a lovely large spacious field with marked out pitches and we were shown to our pitches by the warden on his scooter. A very friendly and helpful chap who explained the location of all the facilities, etc.
There is a small toilet block by the entrance to this field, which was clean and tidy and contained three toilets. The other block was right the way across the site and in this block is also the washing up, showers, freezer etc.
The showers in this block were disappointing, the light did not work, so we were left to shower in almost darkness. The showers are push button type, you cannot adjust the temperature and mine ran cold for most of the shower. You cannot move the shower head either and being just a cubicle with no shower curtain in the cubicle, my shoes got soaked. Fortunately my clothes were on the hook and the shelf, so they stayed dry, that was until I tried to get dressed again. There are no duckboards and due to no shower curtain, the floor was soaking. I then had to juggle with the towel to dry my feet whilst hopping and trying to keep my clothes off the ground as I put them on. A terrible design and only four of them (males, presumably another four for females) for the whole site. However on the following day, my shower was nice and hot, so I guess I was unlucky the first time.
The site is fairly peaceful except the constant hum of the nearby motorway, but that soons gets drowned out by the birdsong and fab views. If you like watching small craft taking off and landing, there is an airfield nearby. These were fun to watch and not that noisy.
There was a small chip shop on site, however this was not open during our stay, so cannot tell you if it was any good. There are a variety of chinese and curry houses that will deliver to the site, so that is all good.
There is a good dog walking field that is totally secure and perfect to let them off for a good run and a few lakes for those that like their fishing.
There is a massive play area, so wonderfully perfect for the littluns, however you cannot see it from the field we were in, but it looked awesome and I wished I was young again, or at least had my kids with me, so I could go and play on it too!
There is a well stocked shop with everything from essential food, ice creams, camping accessories and more. However the shop is right by the entrance and that is a long walk away. Too far for the littluns on their own, especially as you have to walk down the roadway to get there.
Plenty of fresh water points, bins, chemical disposal points and lovely flat pitches. Overall a good site, with some niggles, so not sure I would visit again.

We've visited this site a few times now after stumbling across it online. It's also not too far to travel to. On all occasions we've visited we've done so with two or three other units (family/friends) who are also under canvas.
My first impression is that if you like fishing then this is the site for you. However, I don't and still consider it a good site and will return again and again.
Why? Well because it's local, the staff are friendly, the site is clean, it's very quiet, our kids love the play area and the walks and there's some stunning views to be had.
On the downside is that you can sometimes hear the noise from the motorway depending on the wind direction. The toilets/shower block are old and in need of repair/an update and the shop is a very long walk from the actual campsite.

Went to Pillaton over Jubilee weekend as the first outing in our new tent to iron out any cobwebs, it is only 4 miles from where my partner lives, but promised ourselves would not go home if forgot anything.
Arrived about 3 on the Friday afternoon, check in was smooth, though they had missed the fact that we had booked a second vehicle, but sorted quickly and efficiently and second barrier card/car pass issued.
The site itself is down a long gravel drive, way away from main road, where we were met by a chap who showed us to our pitch, 107. Great pitch, 20 foot from one of the 4 ponds on site, and a decent size.
Weather for most of the weekend was foul, so mens showers did suffer from grass all over floor in cubicles, squeegee mop is available, but people seem to have the attitude of why should I bother. Endless hot water, but small shower cubicles, no shower curtain, and looking a little dated. My partner said the ladies were much nicer.
Staff are very helpful and friendly, and all in all a good site, shame fishing was poor on our visit, but I know it does fish well, and still had a few carp.
Would go again for weekend.

We visited this great site over jubilee weekend, yes we had the wind and rain just like the rest of you!
The campsite itself was fantastic I have never seen so much space between pitches, you can also pick your own numbered pitch.
The on-site take-away was good, cooked by a chef.
The fist night we had a 12' pizza for about £9. 50 and was eating in about 20 mins tasted brilliant.
The shop had sweets and ice creams etc
A few reviews have mentioned the shower block how it needs updating, I think they're more than adequate(admitidly not the best I've ever used )but they are clean, free, hot water 24hrs/day and they provide FREE shower gel/shampoo in the cubicles, you don't get that any where I know for that money per night.
Also you are camping not 'glamping' or in a hotel, I think they are great.
The fishing is good.
They aso give FREE washing up liquid at the sinks; not seen that for a long time! What a lovely touch!
The playground has been updated and is 'brill' as described by my 7 year old.
The wardens are really friendly, knowledgeable and can't do enough for you.
I will be going back in august for a week
Our only request would be for more picnic benches, especially for those who camp 'lightly' or the backpackers we saw.

Stayed here for my first ever time camping and loved it, site was clean and tidy.
All pitches are flat.
The playground seemed good with lots of kids enjoying themselves.
We only stayed two nights so didn't use all the facilities however they looked fine.
The site would be excellent if your into your fishing.
The site is large so was lively until very late, suppose site manager could have done something about all the noise but then I guess its just people enjoying themselves. I haven't had this issue at any of the following sites I have stayed however they have been a lot smaller.
The site is in a nice location with penkridge a short drive or fair walk. Penkridge is a nice town with some very good place to eat.
Overall I would be happy to go back.

Just returned from a fantastic weekend at pillaton on pitch 83.
We have been many many times before but not since the site closed for a short time and we were so heartbroken we sold our caravan.
Well, thanks caravan for the two holidays in Turkey. But we are back now with a nice tent, and a 3rd turkey trip to look forward too.
The site used to be so good, but now IS even better, the play area which was so good before is now moved to the old dog walk area and trust me, it is without doubt the very very best you will find. Yes better than before it really is fab.
The toilets and showers are so clean, it made me want to scrub my own when I got home. The same can be said as of the whole site, just perfect.
This might be due to the new wardens (Ken and ???forgive me I'm terrible with names), who really are a lovely couple and go way out of their daily duties to make sure everyone is happy.
The food from the little fryer is so nice, and served with a happy face. Makes you want more.
The shop is now like a minimarket and the entrance to the site has changed, you'll see what I mean when you arrive.
I don't fish but the families fishing seem to have a ball with some huge ones.
Cant wait to be back jubilee weekend.

Have visited the site before and returned again for Easter. You can now book on-line and choose your pitch quick and easily.
On arrival staff are very friendly and have a well stocked shop with reasonable prices. Pitches are a good size and lots of room between so you don't feel too enclosed with your neighbours.
The main toilet block was kept immaculate well stocked with toilet roll, regularly cleaned, and good cheesy music piped through so even if you need the toilet at 3 in the morning you can enjoy a little 'day dream believer'
The female showers are nice we have a shower curtain between the shower area and shelving for clothes a lovely little extra being shower gel on the wall in case you have none. But in the gents hubby is always moaning that they don't have a shower curtain and his clothing and towels are always getting soaked. The gents definitely needs an upgrade and soon hopefully.
There is another toilet block on the other side but I don't use that, its a little shabby and another area that needs upgrading.
The washing area is fully undercover with large sinks although the water dosent get very warm and again a nice little extra as washing up liquid available if you've got none. There also a freezer available for your ice blocks.
The fryer is open weekends they do lovely chips, pizzas, burgers ect the food is lovely and open in the mornings for bacon and sausage butties.
They also have a recently opened camp shop selling everything from awning to disposable bbqs.
The play area looks fantastic and kept my kids entertained all weekend a new slide, swings, sand pit and football area all safely enclosed.
The site itself is well maintained, clean and so relaxing especially when the fountains on. We will be returning when the weather improves.

We stayed here at the very start of the season. This is a great site and I would highly recommend it. You pre-book your pitch before you arrive. The pitches as already mentioned are a wee bit hard to find but the pitches are very large and there is no feel of over crowding even when the camp got busy at the Easter weekend.
The children's play park is great and looks like it has been updated. There is kit for all ages and those concerned about the park being close to the pool, it is well fenced in and enough separation to avoid temptation. The park is well kept, and the toilet and shower blocks are kept clean. Only wee criticism where that is concerned the secondary toilet block is a little bit basic but like I say its clean, the main shower block was good. Plenty of water and elsan points all over the site which was nice.
Security appeared to be excellent with CCTV, tight barrier control and regular patrols. The staff were most helpful, pointing us in the right direction to get parts for our caravan after a breakdown and even more so after a bad storm in which they came round to check everyone was alright and return items that had been blown away. The farm buildings as you enter the site have a bike rental shop within them, ideal for exploring Cannock Chase. The on site shop is well stocked. All in all a great little site ideally located for exploring Staffordshire and Warwickshire in beautiful scenery. We will definitely use this site again.
