Motorway traffic noise is a real consideration if you are thinking of booking this site. Its only 3/4 of a mile from the M6 and you can really hear the traffic. During the day its not so bad, but at night its a constant drone. We all used earplugs after the first night to try and get some sleep, but not ideal.

The site is self is pleasant with lakes to camp around and for fishing. Good play areas, great slide, site shop (well stocked but half a mile from the pitches), and a snack shed we didn't use but looked OK.

Site was pretty empty when we visited, even in the middle of the school hols, maybe the traffic noise puts families off?

Toilet blocks were fine, mostly clean (though you can write in the dust on the cisterns!), no hairdryers or anywhere to plug them in though (so people used the hand drier!. Showers though were badly designed as the cubicles are very small with a 1 foot step up to the shower tray (end cubicle is a bit larger with a 1ft drop on one side - could be dangerous for kids). No room in the cubicles to put anything down - just a hook, the cubicles are just the size of the shower tray. The idea is you change on the bench area outside to speed things up, however not everyone wants to get changed in public especially if there was a queue. Black mould on shower curtains not nice.

No recycling on site which is unusual, not even glass, just an open skip (so loose stuff just blows out), feels wrong not to recycle, though I guess the site don't want to pay for the collections?

Staff zoom around the site in a golf buggy. Site has a 5mph speed limit (which is a fast walk/jog), there are children playing here so maybe the staff could slow down a bit as no way was the buggy going at jogging speed!

Pleasant site with useful facilities like a freezer to freeze ice blocks, and well thought out, but the traffic noise puts us off returning.

Family of four (2 adults and 2 children), we had great time. On arrival the staff showed us to our pitch, the staff in general were friendly and polite. The facilities were good, water points all over the site. We never had to queue for the toilets or the showers even though it was bank holiday weekend and the site was virtually full. The toilet and showers were cleaned regularly and had regular hot water and were free of charge. The fields are well kept and the site in general is pretty and the views of the countryside are fantastic.

The shop is reasonably priced and had all the basic products that one may need. EHU worked without any problems.

There were lots of happy children on the site who enjoyed the two play areas with climbing frames, swings etc. And an area with two goal posts for football enthusiasts.

All in all this is a great site, we will be returning.

Had a good time at this campsite despite mixed weather. It was great that we could select our pitch online and all are large. It's difficult to see the numbers on a stone on the ground though when you arrive.

Our kids spent a lot of time in the 2 play areas which were great. Also an area to play football with goals. One of them has orange sand which stains clothes so take scruffy things you don't mind getting dirty!

The facilities were reasonable, although a little tired. They were cleaned regularly although some campers didn't seem to leave them in a reasonable state which isn't the fault of the site.

There was a freezer which we could use for freezer blocks etc. Pot washing was adequate although only one plug between 6 sinks.

We didn't use the on site takeaway but it always seemed very busy.

Overall this is a very large campsite which is really busy at weekends so if you want tranquillity this is not for you. It did get a lot quieter in the week however. It's very family friendly and Penkridge is a lovely place. Also managed to get my Tesco shop delivered to the site so didn't have to take loads of food along.

Used pillaton to test our van out as its only 20 mins from home, what a gem of a site, nothing bad to say about it, spotless across the whole site, staff friendly, check in faultless, you could be in the middle of Wales, instead of just off the m6, we were so impressed we booked a further 2 visits before we left, views of the pools were lovely, well reccommend,

Another visit to our local campsite. I have reviewed this site twice before but things do change so here we go again.

Stayed on pitch 23 which has a large hedge behind it so gives some cover from the high winds we experienced during our stay. This campsite is quite high up, a feature I hadn't quite taken account of before so it can get a tad gusty if the wind God's play up. We used the small toilet/shower block near our pitch and found it OK. The cleaners did their level best despite the people that find fun in making a hell of a mess in the cubicles. The showers in this block are quite small and I found them a challenge to use. I'm only 5'8' and 12. 5st so goodness knows how the big blokes get on.

We all made use of the on-site cafe and had great Pizzas, chips and baked pots. Friendly staff here too.

The grand kids loved the parks and were able to ride their bikes and play footy/cricket etc, however, come Friday night the site gets rammed so its not possible to let them 'run-free' Its worth noting that this site does get very busy on weekends, so if you want peace and quiet visit in the week.

Quiet wasn't a word our fellow campers were accustomed to, however, they did know how to punctuate every sentence with the F word. I mentioned the above matter to the site wardens and it seemed I was not alone in having to have a word. Thankfully things did quieten down after that. Not the fault of the site at all which remains smart, well kept and a great little bit of countryside near a lovely village of Penkridge.

No doubt we will return.

Having just bought our Folding Camper we wanted to try somewhere local to test it out. What a hidden Gem. Despite being just around the corner we felt like we were on holiday and the site gives a lovely sense of escapism. Toilet block and washing up facilities are spotless, as are the Elson points. Staff were lovely. There is an on site takeaway serving Breakfast baps in the morning and Burgers, pizzas etc of an evening. I would say wherever you are pitched you will have a lovely view of one or more of the fishing pools. Slightly older children were riding around and having fun, although with the water youngest children will need to be supervised. 2 Playgrounds available for two age groups. We were lucky to have nice weather and enjoyed a little stroll around the site visiting the cows with our 6 month old son, and taking in the view of the surrounding Wheat fields. Truly relaxing weekend. There is a small private airfield near by and we enjoyed watching the small planes coming in to land overhead (they're not noisy)

For those wanting to get out and about Cannock chase is right on your doorstep for Walking, Horse Riding and Bike Rides. There is a 'Go Ape' for the adventurous. Also locally in Penkridge is a Market every Wednesday and Saturday morning with 'Farmers market' selling local eggs and Cheese. As well as meat, fish and fresh coffee.

Shugborough Hall is not far, and offers a farm which runs activities for Children during the Holidays. The house is lovely stately home to have a look around and Lord Lichfield's living quarters are now open to view. For those wanting a nice meal for a special occasion 'The Trooper' in Wall is lovely, which is just off the A5 towards Lichfield.

Just got back from Pillaton, great sight, plenty of space and big pitches Pitched by the Cherry pool, great views and not too near kids facilities so peaceful.

Toilet block has good facilities and very clean. Staff cheerful and helpful x Bit pricey if you don't bring kids or use the play areas.

We decided to spend our first week in our new caravan somewhere fairly local to us and I had heard previous good reviews of Pillaton Pools before. 8 nights seemed like quite a stint but I felt quite at home.

I liked the fact we could choose a pitch online when booking, and now having been will have an even greater appreciation of the pitch layout for the next booking.

Check in was all smooth, we chose pitch 65 in the centre of the field so we would be close to both parks. The main field (with the parks) is large with two fishing pools. The map doesn't show you that the side pitches (on the left) are sloping so I wouldn't have liked to have been on these. Also a couple are very close to the elson point (eugh!)

The rear field at the back was beautiful and we will probably look to stay there next time, although only 4 of the pitches are electric, the views of the fields and woods beyond was stunning.

Play areas were excellent, our kids had a ball and made lots of friends. The showers (top field) were ok once I figured out how they worked but there was little room to get my children showered as there was no private changing area in the cubicle, it just stepped right out into the communal area. I did think the loos could have been a little cleaner if I am honest. My only real problem was the availability of hot water for washing up - on 3 occasions the water was tepid, and this was mid morning and mid afternoon - not peak washing up times!

The Shop was very well stocked, lots of pocket money items and sweets for the children. We bought a wifi card for a week which was a little intermittent over the bank holiday weekend but got better on through the week.

We had my parents over for a bbq one day and had to pay £6 (£3 per visitor) for them to come. I did think this was a bit steep - they didn't use the facilities as sat next to our caravan, but it was good that the barrier pass card was £1 refundable.

Penkridge is a mile up the road and a real gem of a market town. The local butchers, pub, market and shops were excellent.

This is a great family site set in pretty countryside yet still near all amenities. We're looking to visit again in July so heartily recommend.

A return visit to Pillaton with our 7 year old twin grand kids. Stayed on pitch 102, Picked it off the website campsite map. Thought we would be further away from the toilet block and take away hut but found it to be right opposite. Thankfully we didn't get too much noise from toilet visitors but one to bear in mind if you do want a quieter spot.

Found the toilets/showers etc all to be good and clean. We used the takeaway hut one night and the food was all quite good but perhaps a tad expensive.

That said the twins love Pillaton, they can ride their bikes on the fields and they spent hours in the play areas. The ran about so much that they were asking to go to bed. Yay, we wore them out! ha ha.

The reception/shop block had been extended since our last visit but we didn't use it other than to book in/out so can't comment on what is offered.

So another great visit to our local campsite and without doubt we will be back again. (If only to wear the deadly duo out again)

We made our fourth visit to Pillaton in May 2015.

We arrived at Pillaton Hall Farm and as always our check-in was handled in a friendly manner by the staff. The shop has been expanded with considerably more food and camping/fishing supplies on offer. They also now sell alcohol and (oddly for a campsite) candles.

Otherwise the facilities are as they were last time we visited in 2013. The actual campsite is about half a mile away from the shop/reception down a well kept path. The grounds are very well kept and all facilities were very clean during our bank holiday weekend stay. As always at Pillaton we were asked to pitch inside the rectangle right by our pitch number. We spread out our equipment (I like to cook outside) to the side.

Just like two years ago, the only issue was the showers. On two of the three mornings the men's showers were just dribbling. I spoke to a couple of other campers who are more regular visitors to Pillaton and they said they hadn't seen this before so perhaps it is only when they are busy but the site still should be able to accommodate everyone.

Otherwise the toilet/shower areas were always clean at all times of the day. The site is pretty quiet at night, so you should get a good night's sleep. There are plenty of facilities for children to play and of course the fishing pools. We have friends who enjoy fishing and always make use of this facility when they visit Pillaton. The site is also dog friendly.

This time we used the EHU for the first time, and found it 100% reliable with no issues. Although the socket was about as far from our pitch as our standard length cable could handle.

All in all a nice site but do bear in mind the possibility that the showers might be an issue. The site is about 40 minutes drive from Birmingham which of course has excellent shopping and entertainment. Much closer is Penkrdige itself if you just want to stock up your shopping, or Cannock which is a more sizeable town.
