Have been so many times this year to this site I have lost count absolutely cracking site for the family, 4 fishing pools found the cherry pool to be the most productive not so much any of the other pools but hey that's fishing for you.

The park gave the kids lots of entertainment over many weekends along with crazy golf.

The showers are well kept and clean, only minor gripe would be a lack of shower curtain in the gents showers so anything hung on the hook on the door gets wet,was informed there are some in the ladies but still a very good shower block free and hot water really can`t be faulted.

There are several local takeaways that deliver to the site and are recommended, not so much is the little fryer (on site chip shop/pizza place) heard of and saw some of it`s offerings wasn`t impressed hopefully improvements can be made as it a new thing for 2010.

The surrounding area has lots to offer from walking in cannock chase and the go ape outdoor activity centre to having a stroll down to the local cricket club to watch a few overs or a little bit further to penkridge market which is very nice

this site is a must for anybody who loves camping, would check wind direction if you are in a tent though as it can be a little exposed on certain pitches

Wow - what a great site. It was sunny when we went, so as you all know that makes a lot of difference! Don't be put off by the industrial bit as you go in, (they're only very small units), it leads down a path to a lovely, well laid-out camp site, with good views of the countryside.

Pitches are well spaced and easy to find. The lakes are pleasing to the eye and there were lots of people fishing. The toilets are plentiful, as are the showers. Everything was clean and we were impressed that they provide soap for handwashing, shower gel in the showers and even washing up liquid in the communal washing-up area.

There are menus on the wall where you can order take-aways that will deliver to the site, prices weren't bad either. There's a freezer for ice-packs etc.

We didn't use the on-site take-away, but it looked busy, so presume it must be good. The shop is small, but provides the basics.

The whole site seemed lively at night, but not noisy and security patrolled at regular intervals throughout the evening. Penkridge is a lovely place with lots of pubs.

There is a canal alongside The Boat, with lots of locks, where you can while away an afternoon. All in all a lovely site and would recommend it.

Well what can I say. Fantastic! We had a ball. The staff on this site are very helpful and friendly. Everywhere was clean. The only drawback for me would be when I take my disabled daughter in law as there is no disabled shower for her to use. (This is the only reason I score 8/10 for facilities) But saying that we will get around it somehow.

Views around the site are lovely. It is so peaceful you would not believe you are less than an hour away from Birmingham! I personally did not notice the noise from the road.

Did not eat at the Fryer so cannot comment, but nice to know you can get hot food if needed. The shop seemed to have the basics that you run out of ie Milk etc. I intend to make this my second home!

This was my second stay at Pillaton and find the site to be pretty relaxed and friendly.

The shower block and toilets were clean and tidy at all times. My husband said the water pressure was low during mid week and then picked up on Friday for some reason.

The site is pretty flat with some slopes towards the dog run. The dog run is really handy as it's enclosed and is big enough for several dogs to be in at once without needing to mix.

I was disappointed that the cafe wasn't open mid-week but can understand why, it might be an idea to advertise that as we were really looking forward to a cuppa after our long journey.

The washing up area was well sized but the water was tepid not hot and I had to wait a long time to fill the sink up.

Pitch sizes are good and well spaced in between, its nice to pitch by the waters edge.

It gets quite windy and the ground is hard so definitely worth taking delta pegs to use.

We stayed on pitch 31 for three days. First impressions were. Waww what big pitches. When we arrived it was fairly quiet but by the Saturday the site was quite full but it did not have that overcrowded feeling that some other sites have.

Overall very impressed with pitch size and not being hemmed into regimented spaces. The play park was one of the biggest we have had. It was great for our nine year old but as suggested on the sign, under threes need to be supervised.

The showers were fine and did not have to wait for long. OH reports that the washing up facilities were also up to scratch. All in all we don't really have a bad word to say about this place. We stayed on pitch no 31 which was close to all facilities.

We would return to this site as we felt it was very good value for money.

Well, from our first visit here at the beginning of the year we just love it.

Have lost count to the amount of weekends we have spent here this year, its only 8 miles from home.

The site is great for fishermen or families (like us).

The shop caters for all your needs, the takeaway is great and the play area is second to none.

We have one more weekend here booked before it closes for the winter and will miss the site so much (maybe they can extend there season) I wish.

Who needs Devon and Cornwall when you have Pillaton!

Would give 10/10 if there was a pool!

Spent 2 days here fishing and would like to give a bit of an insight into fishing here stopped overnight in our camper very nice place brilliant views over the chase, All amenities good and clean. Was quite windy first day and we struggled I had storm poles on my brolly and had to strap it down with storm straps fished the the dip all day tried several methods and baits only caught small fish. Next day first light on the marl pit wind dropped plenty of large carp jumping in the water but not getting nothing not a bite.

We decided to move onto the cherry pool straight away were catching bream roach on sweetcorn perch like the maggots good variety. About 6.00pm larger bream and carp started to take on bread on a well fed fed swim.

Will return and have a go on chase view and would like to do the marl pit again later in the day. And would most definitely fish the cherry pool again now we have sussed how to fish it. All in all good couple of days fishing at a fiver a day.

Being in a tent we noticed road noise from the M5.

We have been going to this site now for 4 years and it has been updated every year. Really good size pitches very well kept except for the toilets and showers which were not cleaned enough we stayed for for nights and the ladies sanitary bins were not emptied at all in these 4 days. The showers are small not enough space in there and your clothes get just as wet as you do. You have to be off by 12 or you loose your £5.00 deposit for the barrier key we were 5 mins late and lost ours a bit harsh. All things said its still a good site just the showers and toilets spoil it.

As with most other reviews, we found this site to be very well maintained, the pitches were of a generous size and we enjoyed our stay very much. We were pitch no. 94 which was perfect for the lake (The Dip) and we witnessed some stunning sunsets. My only two negatives are that the site details on this site state that Alton Towers is half an hour away.I would say it's nearer to an hour if not more. Also, the toilet block nearest to us was OK, but we had a bit of a walk to the showers and to decent washing up sinks as the one sink provided at our toilet block was not covered and didn't have any hot water whenever we used it.

Having said that, this did not spoil our stay in the slightest.

The play area is definitely the best we've ever seen on a campsite and our two children loved it. We felt very confident that they were safe.

On our first night, we used the Little Fryer on site and found the food to be perfectly adequate. On another evening, we ordered a Chinese take-away to be delivered to the site and to our surprise it arrived literally outside our tent - very impressive.

The village of Penkridge is a stone's throw away and is very pretty with a decent co-op and a couple of pubs. We didn't eat at these pubs, but we did try the Littleton Arms just out of village on the main road and this was extremely nice. We also tried a carvery a bit further up the same road on the opposite side which was very quiet, but had excellent food and great service. I just want to add that we would normally cook more on site, but the weather made this a little difficult!

My husband is a keen carp fisherman so this site was ideal, hence our extended stay. We all enjoyed sharing sessions around the lake with him, although he didn't catch anything!

One other very slight negative, although it didn't bother us, was the road noise from the nearby M6, which is pretty much constant. Mind you, it's so constant, you tend not to notice it after a while.

In summary, good clean, well maintained, spacious, friendly site. I'd have no hesitation in recommending this site to any other campers.
