We arrived at pillaton to find a warm welcome and the site was clean. With two toilet blocks one of these with showers. Lots of room in shower and toilets. They were nice and clean to use.
There is a takeaway and a shop, which are very useful, with a good menu. Also pools which added to the view for fishing. Plenty of room round the pitches. The playground was in a good position.
We think it is a very good site. It is a value for money site. Also near cannock chase.

Dear Gatsey, I have just read your recent review of our site. I am sorry for your disappointment with the shower facilities. I am the site warden who showed you onto your pitch and am also responsible for the cleaning of all toilet and wash facilities here.
I can assure you that they are all regularly cleaned and maintained to a high standard, in fact many people have complimented upon them.
Unfortunately there is no drive through facilities for your motorhome to fill water or empty waste by hose or outlet, however there are elsan points and water taps at various points on site where you can easily drive and park next to with easy reach for hosing, though I would have assumed like caravan your waste boxes and toilets are detachable?
Again, sorry for the inconvenience.

Very friendly welcome, and with reception being open until 10pm on Fridays, there was no problem with late arrivals - as it happened we arrived earlier than we had expected, but the majority of campsites are unwilling to accept late arrivals, which I can fully understand.
Anyway, the site comprises all grass pitches, pretty much level and all neatly cut. The lakes are attractive, and there is a good play area. I think there are two toilet blocks; the one furthest away from us, up by the small shop and the takeaway has showers. We used the shower in our own van on the first morning but on the second my husband used the site showers as we had run out of water, but he was far from impressed and said he felt dirtier after than before! There wasn't a motorhome waste water drain which was a bit of a nuisance.
The site is close to Cannock Chase. We cycled up to Go Ape(about 5 miles)- good fun, well organised and we were lucky enough to have lovely weather. There are lots of walks and cycle paths around.
All in all, good location, friendly but we don't like to rough it too much with shower and toilet blocks so not sure if we would return. Having said that, it was very reasonably priced £32 for two nights in Easter hols, 2 adults, 2 children), so you never know!

Pillaton Hall was a good find.
Don't be fooled by thinking you are on an industrial estate becasue the camp site is a little way down the lane after these buildings.
The site is large and has 4 Coarse fishing pools.
The pitches are mixed euh and non-ehu and are very spacious and well kept, clean and tidy.
There is also a rally field which at the time of staying was non-ehu only.
The children's play are is large and one of the best I have come across. There is also a sand pit area. It's all in the middle of the site and can be seen from most pitches.
None of the fishing pools are fenced off so if you think it will be a problem with your children then maybe not for you.
Facilities:
There is a large heated toilet/shower block with piped music (which does get on your nerves after a bit - that's just my personal opinion lol)
There were I think 6 toilets and 6 showers altogether.
Wash basins and mirrors
A hairdryer (free I think but not 100% sure as I didn't use it)
I seem to recall sockets for plugging in your own hairdryer and straighteners.
Only downside was there wasn't anywhere to put your stuff once in the shower (no little shelf or fip down seat)and a curtain would have been good just to protect your clothes from any shower spray. Saying that nothing of mine got wet when I was showering. Very minor niggle
No idea on the gents but I expect it was similar.
The wash up sinks were under cover in the same block/area and were adequate for what was needed - plenty of hot water whatever time of day ( so I am told as OH and children did all the washing up)
There were various vending machines in the same area - pot noodle, drinks, choc bars, chips etc - we didn't sample thier delights though! Children did have Hot Chocolate from one of them and said it was nice.
Also, in this area there were takeaway menus from the local Indian and Chinese and Pizza (?) places. All will deliver to the site for you.
OH and children went fishing on the Saturday afternoon - remember you must have a rivers licence to go fishing. You can get then from the site or from any Post Office or PO on line.
Even though they didn't catch anything they still had fun.
There is a small shop on site that sells toys and things for cildren, sweets etc and bait for fishing (apparently they like luncheon meat!)
I cannot say anything about the surrounding area - things to see and do - as we were there on a UKCS meet and I never left the site for the whole of the weekend. OH went out to a supermarket somewhere in Penkridge. Penkridge seems a fairly decent sized place with a few shops.
Very minor noise from the motorway and on the Saturday afternoon we had a good display from the local flying club - think the airfield is not too far away. On the Sunday we were treated to the Red Arrows flying over on their way to/from somewhere.
Not enough motorway noise to keep us awake at night.
Plenty of wildlife around - including ducks on the lakes - especially if you are up and about before the rest of the site.
When we booked the site we paid £13 per night for 2 adults, 2 children, tent with ehu. Which was worth every penny.
For 2010 it has increased to £15 a night but still good value.
There is also a £5 returnable deposit for the security barrier.
We will be returning for the second week of the Easter school holidays to explore the area and visit Alton Towers (not my idea) and check out the improvements/changes made/planned before we return for another meet in September.

First time I have been camping with my 15 year old son, we picked this site as a base to visit Alton Towers and stayed for two nights.
The pitches are very roomy, with plenty of space around us - we were able to kick a ball about without disturbing any of our neighbours.
The toilets are fine and I found no great problem with the showers. I know some reviewers had a little gripe about no curtains/benches, but hey !, it's a campsite, not a Hilton Hotel !
The shop was perfectly satisfactory and my son just adored the Pot Noodle vendor - he wants one for his bedroom ! He felt a little old for the playpark, but did agree it was one of the better ones that he had seen.
Neither of us are fishermen, but the pools provided a point of interest for us.
We didn't really have time to explore any further, but if we are in the area again I will definitely use the site again and have no problem in recommending it to others.
The staff in Reception were First Class, very helpful.

Have stayed at Pillaton Pools several times now
There's 3 camping areas: - What was an adult only field which is now used as just a small camping area, for about 12/15 units with EHU - very nice but fair walk from facilities
The main area - where there's a fab play area for the little peeps - lakes for the fisherman - general faclities and little shop with vending machine bits and bobs
Pitches are well spaced & marked out, so plenty of room for the larger tents - with and without EHU mingled together
Also there's a non EHU rally field
I here fishing is good depending on the pool lol
Local shops just a short drive away (Morrison & Asda)and can recommend the Olympic Fish & Ship shop
For Geocacher's there are 20 odd caches in about 5 mile radius (with some nice walks or cache & dash - have left a few for next time)
Will go again.
Only downside, they can be hard to get hold of - darn answer-machine

Just returned from a wonderful weekend at this site.Well kept level ground very friendly staff.Toilets and showers were very clean and(as they have under floor heating)warm. Vending machines outside gents dispensed pot noodles, chocolate, crisps and even hot chips. With Penkridge just 10 mins drive there is no need to go short of any provisions and there is a nice little shop on site which sells toys, camping essentials, ice creams and even bait. There are four fishing pools which seem to be a popular attraction for a lot of people. The rates are quite reasonable for such a lovely site. Our grandchildren(two boys 5 and three year olds enjoyed the play area which is slap bang in the middle of the field.Would defo recommend this site.Well done pillaton hall and thank you for a good birthday weekend.

Pillaton Hall Farm is a campsite with great potential. We have just returned from a weeks stay and have thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
The new play area was fantastic and kept our 10 year old amused.
The pitches themselves were extremely spacious and clearly marked out, so for once us large tent owners were not penalised and all cramped in.
Dave (site owner) very friendly and willing to help.
The only downside is the shower facilities. The shower cubicles are small with only 4 hooks in the females to hang your belongings with a curtain between these and the shower. There is no dry area to get dry and changed. The area between your items and the shower could be bigger with a bench. In the males there isn't even a shower curtain separating the shower from the door.
It would also be nice if these facilities were cleaned twice daily instead of at 7am, purely due to the lack of respect by other campers in terms of cleanliness. Currently there is no mop and bucket for campers to clean the shower areas after use.
Currently only a small camp shop which is only open limited hours, however, the nearest supermarket is only 2 miles away.
Alton Towers is approximately 40 minutes away, so making it a great base.
The Fishing lakes were superb and were enjoyable even for those who don't fish.
Although a family friendly campsite, there was no washing facilities for babies, however, our 6 month old loved being bathed in the washing up area
This is one campsite that has a great future and we will return in the future when re-visiting Alton Towers.

We arrived on a busy day in August, with long traffic queues, to stay for a weekend. Our friend was to be joining us later but due to the traffic we knew he would be arriving quite late. Despite having personally paid for him to camp with us, we were unable to collect his key to get through the barrier, which is shut each night at 8pm. We were told if he arrived after this time he would not be able to camp. Fortunately he arrived just in time.
The mens toilets were shut each morning from 8-9 for cleaning, leaving long queues for the one disabled toilet. In the ladies shower the water kept changing temperature, but there was a curtain to keep clothes dry.
There is motorway noise at night.
There were no recycling facilities and the bins were full to overflowing when we left.
Although dogs are meant to be kept under control etc. We had large amounts of dogs mess left outside the tent - not great when you have small children. In fairness the campsite owner did say that he would clean it up.
There were often queues for the 3 washing up sinks, however they were undercover and there was lots of hot water.
On the plus side, there is lots of room for large tents with clearly marked sites. The owners were happy for us to park a car on an adjacent space to 'save it' for our friend. We arrived early and got to choose our pitch. But by about 2pm space was already getting limited.
The play park was great, although we had to ban the children from the sandpit to keep the tent vaguely sand free!
The owners are very organised.
There is a large Asda in Cannock (didn't use on site facilities) and the Boat Pub in Penkridge did good food.

Great site just got back after 8 days there and our second visit. Large level pitches, great friendly staff, clean toilets and surrounding area nice. Little shop on site, lovely views and lakes, if you like to fish this is a place to stay I tried for my first time one day I caught 16 fish on a 4 metre pole. Adult field if you don't want kids running round all day. The best kids play area I have seen on a campsite in 3 years on caravanning. There's a small town with shops, pub, takeaways only 5 mins drive away. £15 a night for a family of 4 plus mains hook-up can't be bad. Only bad point last time was cars seem to drive around site too fast worst when it's dark as there is no road lighting the owners of the site will reprimdand if they see them - 1 driver in a Escort softtop was speeding all week - on our last day was seen by Dave (owner very nice man) and she was told to slow down. Well worth a visit.
