Visited the site for a couple of nights and thought that it was very clean and tidy and very pretty surroundings with some cute ponies. We were in the second field where the kids play area was and the field was well maintained, large, clean and although it did have a slope, I didn't find this too much of a problem. The toilets were clean although the lights do go out pretty quick at night so take a torch with you or someone to activate them again. I found the owner very helpful as our sat nav decided it wanted to take us to the quarry rather than the campsite! It was fairly quiet when we went so noise wasn't a problem for us at all, think we just picked a bad few nights though as it was extremely windy and cold - I guess it was just bad luck.

Visited this site Friday to Sunday, the staff were very friendly and happy to assist with any queries. Our pitch was slightly uneven and quite a bit of levelling out was needed, but once set up the view was lovely.

There is a really nice park, pigs, horses and chickens to keep the children entertained. The toilet and showers are lovely and clean all in all facilities are good. Lots of places to visit nearby, pub a short walk away but we found it an extremely busy road and with no pavements you have to be really careful. Loved this place and will certainly be returning. If you like camping there are also 2 lovely large camping fields.

Arrived on Good Friday to about 2 inches of snow!

Booked in and was told we were on pitch 8 and 10 as our friends were joining us in their tent.

The owner with his tractor kindly put us in our pitch then found us a block of wood for our jockey wheel and helped us on chocks as the ground slopped.

Another man came and lent us a shovel and a snow shovel so that we could dig out our awning space.

Some pitches had been cleared but not ours. But I accept you cant predict the weather

When our friends arrived it became clear that pitch ten had a caravan on and they were told to pitch anywhere in front of us and our electric would be split. We weren't told this in February when I booked and paid for two electric pitches.

After a cold night it was obvious that the split electric couldn't run our friends heater and the caravan on pitch ten had gone so off I trotted to sort it out.

Thinking stupidly that pitch ten would now be our friends but no it was booked however after some negotiation the owner lady unhooked the shop peoples caravan electric and gave it to our friends

Maybe I was been 'funny' expecting a full pitch when booking?

Showers were clean but no mop and bucket to clean them before or after and as said started as soon as money went in.

Pot washing and toilets were adequate and the shop a nice addition

The sound of the quarry was intrusive and it was a relief when it finally shut up at about half five on Saturday.

Despite the horrible weather this site was busy with lots of tents in the two fields unfortunately this led to a fair bit of noise and idiot drivers but this was dealt with by Sunday.

The views from this site are stunning and once the quarry shut up was a very peaceful place

The people in the shop were very friendly as were all the staff/ owners

I wouldn't return as feel miffed about the whole pitch thing it was obvious to me that they were booking as many people in as they could as it was Easter at our detriment

Our first camping trip for many years and we decided on Derbyshire. This site popped up on a search. We had read the previous reviews and decided to give it a go. People very friendly on arrival and also very helpful. We were directed to our field and was told that there was a Motocross event on the Sunday, this was not a issue.

Site was clean, toilets were spotless even after the motor bikes 90+. Showers were ok clean and efficient. £1 for 5 mins. If you need a longer stay in the toilets at night then take a torch or someone who can activate the PIR to switch the lights back on after they switch themselves off after 3 mins.

Scenery beautiful, and as we had good weather whilst there made it a fantastic couple of days, however early April is cold at night.

Pigs eat all your scraps and the two Jack Russells are to die for.

Overall a good site and will be visiting again.

We stayed at this site on a chilly weekend in Sept. When we arrived we were greeted by th friendly owner, who advised us where to buy logs from for the much needed firepit.

We were pitched in the EHU field and our small group were the only tents there, but this wasn`t a problem and the other caravanners were very friendly.

The site is well maintained and clean. There were three showers for each sex, paid for but a coin slot outside the cubicle. 20p a minute. I though this was a bit pricey and everyone was putting more than they needed in as you couldn`t top it up if you ran out in the middle of your shower without leaving your cubicle. Apart from that they were very clean and the water was hot.

The toilets were in a portacabin on the edge of the non-EHU field. There were three of these too. They were clean, but chilly.

The area is beautiful, we spent a lovely day on Bakewell and did some great walking. Derbyshire is a lovely county. Chatsworth House and haddon Hall are easily reachable from the site.

There is also a play area on site

All in all it was a lovely site and we will probably return.

This is the nicest campsite I have ever been to. The owners were nice and welcoming. The showers were £1 for 5 minutes which is great value, everything was clean including the toilets. Full recycling bins.

There were 2 large pigs that were very friendly and loved your left overs. Some horses they loved a stroke and some grass.

Great play area for the kids and everyone on the site was nice too. We went with friends and had 13 and 14 yr old boys and they loved it.

There is a fridge freezer to put things in at reception (not your weekly shopping)fire wood just up the road so you can have a fire at £2.50 a bag if you have your own fire basket.

We went to Bakewell for a day out which was not too far away and there are lots of other things close by.

If following your sat nav it tends to tell you your there when you need another mile up the road and you can miss it if not careful - I was driving in the dark but the RAC website gave a road name to go with the post code. You know you have past it if you come to a pub on the left called the holybush pub you need to turn round and it will be on your left.

£6.00 a adult and £3.00 a child was worth every penny - pitch your tent where you like in a choice of fields with well kept grass.

Wether your new to camping or been doing it for years you will love this site. The only bad thing was I had to come home

Just returned from 3 days at Middle Hills.

We had a large tent and awning with electric hookup, and 2 8 year olds.

Firstly the pitch. There are 3 fields, two without electric. These fields are very large.

We were in the 'electric field', which was still a good size. Our field was flat and the ground no problem, and the pitch size was good.

The Toilet block needs updating - whilst they are adequate - there are only 3 male cubicles and I could see them being insufficient if the site was anywhere near full.

Good play area for the kids, add together the pigs, cows and horses then its a good safe site for kids.

The showers were nice and clean, although as already mentioned they come at a charge.

Top tip - don't go to the local Holybush Pub - its probably healthier to scrape around the dustbins if your hungry. Two very good food pubs - The Miners Inn in Carsington and the Midland in Matlock.

Would we return? - this is the test.Yes - the site is well run, I just hope they can update the toilets for our next visit.

My second stay here this year, the first been Easter weekend. And weekend of 13 - 15 August this time.

Since Easter a few things on the site have changed.

New showers have been installed, previously the showers were free with a push button, but now you have to pay. 20 pence a minute. Believe me. You need at least a pound for a decent shower, as soon as you put your money in the shower starts. But they are piping hot, so no complaints really.

There are now some portaloos in the second field which is great!

You now get a piece of paper with a list of site rules, which you never got before. But it's all common sense things. Fires only with a fit pit etc They do have a policy of no music after 11pm now, although that was not enforced whilst we stayed there.

The play area for kids has now been finished and although we don't have kids. It looked great and all the kids on site seemed to love it.

This is a great site, its ideally located for good walks, the pub at the bottom of the road is now open again after been shut for a while, it does food but couldn't tell you what its like as we just popped in for a drink.

At £6 a night this is one of the cheapest sites we have stayed at and why we keep coming back.

We recently went on our first camping holiday, the camp site was large and we could pitch our tent where we wanted, the staff were friendly and helpful.

The toilets were basic and cleaned several times throughout the day, the showers were a little on the expensive side £1 for 5 mins. My children liked to play with the other children camping on the play area and looking at the pigs.

The views were beautiful, its only a short car ride away from matlock where we had a pizza takeout, and close by is matlock bath where we had fish and chips, its also about 10 mins from gullivers kingdom where we spent the day.

The only downfall is that it is hard to find and the sat nav didn't pick it up, but then we saw a sign after driving around.

Arrived here on Friday morning, not the easiest place to find so bring a detailed map! Don't ask any of the local for directions as we were sent on a wild goose chase, only to discover that we were actually only a couple of miles away form the camp.

Basically this is a nice, well kept camp site with friendly and helpful owners. Site is split into 2 fields, on a slight slope but not really an issue.

It has a fairly new looking play area which all the kids seemed to love. Toilets are plentiful and always clean. Showers not up to much, (£1 for 5mins) but it does the job! There were also portaloos on site to cope with the extra demand at the weekend.

They also allow fires in a fire pit whcih was great for late evening, there are a limited number of fire pits available at the site but they are like gold dust at the weekend, or you can bring your own.

We did not have our kids with us, however if you are taking kids we would recommend pitching in the bottom field, as the top field very quickly fills up with weekend campers - a lot of adult groups making lots of noise. However by Sunday afternoon the place was deserted and we almost had the top field to ourselves.

Plenty of shops available about 4-5 miles from camp. THere is also a pub within walking distance (10mins), however we would not recommend it - let's just leave it at that!

We will definitely be going back next year as it is a very enjoyable site and lots to see in the surrounding area (Matlock Bath & Bakewell were particularly nice places).
