First camping trip of 2010 - loved the campsite. On arrival the owners were very welcoming - giving us a choice of 2 large fields we could camp in. When booking we were advised of a motocross event on the Sunday. This provided us with entertainment when doing our BBQ!

Toilets / showers / wash-up areas all very clean and well maintained. Ample hot water (too hot at some points of the day)

We had fires on both nights we stayed and managed to get firewood from the farm down the road.

We will be going back to this site very soon.

Was beautiful weather all the time so very lucky, cold in the morning but hot showers were lovely and very clean!

I enjoyed it a lot, having a fire and it was very spacious.

Friday night was a little interrupted by quarry but it actually was rather relaxing I thought!

Nice walks and footpaths to matlock and other places.

Will be back:)

Spent 3 nights here over the Easter break. My first time, but my partner and our friends have been before.

Personally I think it's a fantastic site, yes. It rained pretty much non stop, was cold and very windy. But come on people. You're camping. Not staying in a four star hotel!

The shower block is lovely, 4 in each ladies / mens and are free to use and piping hot and is immaculate.

Other reviews have people complaining about the quarry. Didn't hear it at all probably because we were doing other things or maybe it was closed over the easter break. Again. People complaining over the slightest little thing!

As somebody else mentioned. The pub at the bottom of the road is closed.Although there are no signs to indicate this.

All in all. Great site, plenty of room. Definitely coming back here again soon. Regardless of the weather :-)

Just returned from our 3rd visit to the campsite stopped from Friday to Monday over Easter and will definitely be back here again at some point

A friendly site with a great atmosphere, plenty of room for lots of tents in 2 large fields, was a bit muddy under foot due to the wonderful british weather but it didn't stop our fun

We camped in the top field where there are great views around, toilets are clean and tidy, and the showers are nice and clean. If you drop on with the weather at this campsite you can pretty much guarantee a good weekend

Just back from spending 4 nights at this lovely back to basics campsite, unfortunately we went at the wrong time and it didn't stop raining, chuck in some snow, not ideal for camping.

The site is now very wet so expect a very muddy time round about easter. Toilets and showers very clean but limited, if you want basic camping this is it. A decent site run by a very friendly couple.

The nearby quarry can get bit noisy but not too off putting, no shop on site so get stocked up on way, sainsburys few miles down road, play area still being worked on so wasn't accessible to us even if we could have used it.

Previous reviews state there is a pub a short walk down the road, this closed down some time about Christmas

Overall a good campsite but you need the weather on this one, no clubhouse or anything nearby to retreat to

I met my brother at this site for a weekend away and we were very impressed with the site.

We liked the size of the site, we weren't pitched too close to anyone, and not too far from the facilities, and being able to have a proper fire was brilliant!

The site was plenty big enough, especially when it got busier on the Saturday.

The signs on the road go be a little further from the entrance from the road, to give some warning as one approaches.

As others have said, be careful with the kids if you're walking for a meal at the pub or for firewood, it's an unlit road with no footpath.

We found the owners to be very friendly and accommodating, and they let us pay when we arrived.

The only slight downside was that there seems to be a bit of an issue with hot water. The new shower block is lovely, but a stool or small shelf in each stall would be welcome. The availability of hot water was hit and miss, but early or in the middle of the day seemed to be the best times to shower.

Matlock, Matlock Bath and Bakewell are within driving distance (approx 8 miles to Matlock and Bakewell) with plenty to do whether with kids or not.

All in all, a brilliant site, reasonable prices, and we will definitely be going back before long!

We both agreed it was a total bummer we had wasted most of the season at other sites!

The owners are really friendly, and couldn't have been more helpful, the facilities were clean and well presented, the local area is just stunningly beautiful ! As for the Quarry?, we didn't hear it once the whole weekend.

Thumbs up all round!

The dog loved it too, (the horses and pigs freaked him out a tiny bit, but then, to be honest, he is a total coward so no surprise there) and given the time of year, it was brilliant being able to have an open fire going at night.

We are definitely going back there this year, as we are expecting twins in October so we don't want to waste any chances we get by going to a substandard site. So, should the weather be ok this coming weekend we're going to try to make it a Middle Hills Farm weekend. We're getting excited already!

We highly recommend this site to everyone and anyone and will most likely be heading there at least a couple of times a year from now on, just to chill and escape the rat race in the Peak.

Ok, it was Bank Holiday week-end but 35 pitches? I don't think so, 135 pitches or more would be nearer the mark. Sufficient loos etc, but warm water non-existent as couldn't cope with demand. I'm sure the owners tried to keep loo rolls, towels filled, but again, demand meant these ran out.
The owners tried to separate the families from others by asking them to go into separate fields, but this was only partially successful as the families trying to get their children to sleep will attest. Very dangerous road, no footpath, to the pub, unfortunately. Site in lovely area though and site reasonably priced.

Nice weekend at nice site in beautiful setting with all the attractions of the Peaks close to hand.

Cheap at £20 for 1 adult/2 children for 2 nights.

Noisy Saturday daytime from the nearby quarry, and Saturday night from the revelling campers.

Showers and toilets clean and not over-busy when we used them. They could put a bit of thought into little things like how children can reach the washing up sinks.

Nice to have fires - the farm by the Hollybush pub sells wood, and has an honesty box if you arrive late. Plenty of other kids to entertain the children and fields to wander in, ponies to stroke.

Not exactly complaining as it was the first hot weekend in August, I did book late and get a cancellation, and the owner did warn me there was a party in one of the fields, but it was the most crowded campsite I've stayed at - less than 6 feet each side to the next pitch by the time we got there. Maybe worth checking how busy they will be when you book.

Excellent site stayed one night only and literally just got back. What makes it such an enjoyable experience is that the owners are easy going there is a good feel about the place. There were parties in the next 'group' field but hey I'd rather a bit of tolerance than overt control from management.
Fires are also allowed and I sourced our wood from scavenging the standing / lying dead wood that is in abundance locally (2 miles). The only point that I would mention and this is to potential visitors, if you do have a fire then dig a pit, clear up after and leave no trace. Most campers did this however others just built the fire on the ground leaving great scorch marks / mess in the field. Leave no trace.
