Visited campsite for long weekend, very nice location, close to Matlock, Carsington water, Ashbourne and Bakewell. Lovely pub 5 min walk selling reasonably priced decent pub grub. Two roaring fires (much needed as it was freezing!).
No shop within walking distance so stock up on your way. The campsite itself was large, spacious and fairly level. Good camping ground. Owner probably the friendliest I've ever encountered, not fussy when you arrive or leave just pay as you go and this was a busy bank holiday.
Lovely for children as lots of space, trampoline and pigs, cows with calves and horses all around. Facilities; unclean, no hot water or toilet roll, one shower per sex which neither of us managed to get hot water from. They ended up blocked and closed. This was due to the fact that they let too many people on.
Overall would be a great site for large groups of teenagers who want to spread out and be noisy and are not too bothered about showering! Would maybe try this site if facilities were improved and maybe at a quieter time of the year.

Visited the site for the 1st time in May 09 with family members, 4 tents in total, plenty of room and great location.
Owners were very friendly, we felt very relaxed and were able to have a campfire, we bought wood from a local farm just around the corner from the entrance to the campsite; they were also very friendly!
One bad point; I have a small daughter (2), there was no hot water in the camping toilet block, 1 shower for each sex and no separate washbasins only the couple in the toilet blocks. On 1st night the camping toilet block was 'blocked' and closed. Basically there are not enough facilities for the amount of people. People were brushing their teeth in the drinking water taps!
It was a shame because we would definitely re-use the site if the facilities were improved.

Had a brilliant weekend. Very friendly and helpful family. Pub nearby. Should sell more things on site. Surrounding area was beautiful, ideal for walkers. Would definitely visit again and recommend to anyone. Nine ladys stone circle, Earl grey reform tower, cat rock, chalk rock and the caves behind the druid inn (cheaper drinks in the red lion just up the road and has an old well in the floor.) All within a 3 mile radius well worth a visit. Arbour low stone circle was interesting, pity its on private land. Tehre was loads more to see and do but unfortunately not enough time to do it

Value for money friendly campsite. Two fields available for tent use as much space as you need on good camping ground. When we arrived on the Bank Holiday Friday it had been pouring it down the roads were flooded, however the ground for pitching the tent was fine. Toilets and shower were basic, but clean and the only place I seemed to be able to get hot water was the pot washing area.
We visited the local pub on Sunday - hoping to get some lunch but left as it was (in my opinion) not very clean, sticky menu's bits on the tables etc and the menu was also over priced. We instead ended up in Matlock and had a lovely lunch at the Railway - great value for money.
Will definitely visit this site again, if you are wanting to go back to basics and enjoy a sing song round the fire then can't be beaten.

Great site. Went mon-thur. Plenty of room. Friendly hosts very helpful. Showers basic but clean. Wash rooms with plenty of hot water, a new shower/toilet block arrived while we were there, but not in use. Beautiful scenery. Bakewell is close, great place busy at this time with a huge gala, you will need a full day for this. Planning on going back in October.

We stayed here over the Bank Holiday weekend, they were very accommodating and managed to fit us in at the last minute. There were 2 camping fields and despite all the rain were in good condition.
We pitched out tent on Friday evening and we were next to a very noisy family (they were shouting and singing until 3am!), they luckily left on Saturday morning!
There was only 1 shower (10p's needed!)for around 60 tents - when I went to shower it was a freezing cold dribble of water, when I asked if there was a problem with it I was told that it was because of the number of people using the site.
Again it was noisy on the Saturday night with music etc. It seems there is no policy on keeping the noise down on the site.
It would have been a lovely site but it was too overcrowded and noisy, I'm sure at any other time it would have been a very enjoyable stay.

A lovely location in heart of countryside and a very friendly greeting. It was bank holiday so a very busy time for site, but the toilets could do with being cleaned more often. A few more showers would be nice as well. On the whole a very nice cheap place .The local pub did very nice meals at reasonable prices and was a friendly place just a little walk away.

Very accommodating and friendly family run site. Warm greeting on arrival, with information available regarding local attractions. Facilities clean and well kept. Children enjoyed going to see the farm animals. A 5-10 minute walk to the local pub. An enjoyable break with our 2 children and dog.
