We stayed for 2 nights over the bank holiday weekend with our two young children.
Beautiful and practical location. Great playground, other facilities satisfactory.
I would not recommend this site for young children. There was a culture of partying well into the night with a lot of alcohol, loud music and loud people.
Our children struggled to get to sleep both nights.
A night patrol man was very friendly and helpful but didn't have much effect on the noise level.
Dogs were left unattended to bark or to roam free and children as young as 2 or 3 were left to play without adult supervision and were screaming and running around well after 10pm when it was dark.
They were also using the climbing frames at this time. The owner declined to do anything about this either for the safety of the children or the consideration of those unlucky enough to have to pitch next to the playground. She was also heard (from quite a distance away at 11pm!) to say that children waking up early are a nuisance!
This might be what some people like but we wanted a family break in the Peaks - we got Ibiza!

We've visited this site a number of times. Always as part of a group, growing in size each year - this time with 9 families. It was very warm this year so very busy, many people were up and about beyond the night time curfew but there was not any excessive noise, just a very relaxed atmosphere.
The site's well situated for Matlock Bath, Heights of Abraham & Gullivers world.
The site is quite large with a lower field which is nice and flat and a bigger field where there is a bit of a slope. There is a toilet and washing up block in the small field, and 2 years ago a new toilet/shower block in appeared in the large field although unfortunately they haven't plumbed in the showers yet! There is also a dishwashing area (not much hot water) and a fridge & freezer.
The free play area is excellent and the children spend most of their time there. There are also a few friendly animals in a fenced off enclosure. There's usually plenty of space for a game of football, cricket etc.
It's also worth mentioning that one year we visited when there'd been storms and flooding in the area and although they'd had a lot of rain the field drained really well and wasn't muddy.
This site don't take a deposit when you book. The price has increased over the years and you pay for number of people not size of pitch so if you have a big family it can be pricey. The facilities are gradually increasing, if the showers were plumbed in and free then they would have just about got it right!

Enjoyed our stay here friendly service. Good facilities there is a playground for children used the electric hook up service - Well maintained fields. There are showers which you pay 20p for one minute or a £1 for 5 minutes. There is a pub at the bottom of the road if you fancy a stroll. Not far from Carsington water, winster and wirksworth. A very relaxing and enjoyable time. Facilities are well maintained toilets / showers etc. Will return back.

We chose middle hills for our first camping trip and had a lovely weekend. When we arrived, we met the owner and checked in, he was very friendly and informative. There is a very relaxed feel about the place, we didn't want electric hook up and so could choose where we pitched in one of two large fields and our car was able to be parked next to the tent which was handy! We have two boys aged 3 and almost 2 and they loved it - playing on the playground, seeing the pigs and generally running around the field. It did get very busy toward Friday night and more people arrived during Saturday so the almost empty field that we arrived to was pretty packed by mid weekend (it was amazing weather though!) but everyone seemed very friendly and the noise at night was fine. They have a new toilet block which we only found on the Saturday which is really nice although we weren't after any luxuries and the on site shop was really useful. We intend to go again soon.

Great site for families.
Fab play area and animal farm. Well stocked shop, has all essentials. Showers and toilets were thoroughly cleaned regularly and also well stocked with paper.
Fridge and freezer were available for the trusting campers! Hot water pot washing facilities were available.
Large site with brilliant views. Owners are really helpful with advice for days out, walks and eating out. Visit the Druid Inn at Birchover for a meal, so yum yum we went twice!
2 minor minus points of the site:
The showers are brill but you have to pay (not a problem paying), you put money in and have to be ready to immediately start your shower as the time starts running down, bit of a problems as the money slot is outside the shower cubicle! The second cattle grid up the drive is in need of repair, car drivers take it very slowly!
A great weekend all in all and like I say the two minus points are minor points.

A very lovely campsite just returned from a weekend with a number of friends. Great kids play ground and lovely pitches. The only disappointing part were the toilets and shower blocks. 20p a minute to shower ! Thank goodness we have one in the caravan. Also the toilets were a real let down they were not clean and in a portacabin block. Also the washing up facilities were not ideal, with push bottom taps so took an age to wash up. It is such a shame otherwise would give this site 10/10. Very friendly family who run the site and absolutely beautiful surrounding area with so much to see and do.

This was our first visit here, but it's a lovely little site. Toilets are clean, showers are lovely and warm as well as clean. Undercover pot washing area, little park for the kids and farm animals to pet. The only real issue was there is no where to walk without going back to the road which would be dangerous to do with young children. We drove to Matlock for the day as we were only staying the weekend. The site owners are friendly and helpful when needed, also there is a shared fridge/freezer which came in very useful. There's a little site shop on site which is a lot better than I expected. We will come back for a weekend again.

We are just back from a 3 night stay here. Overall we would highly recommend the site.
Toilets - cleaned regularly, always plenty of toilet paper. There are only 4 with 2 sinks for each sex, we stayed on a bank holiday and there were well over a 100 units staying. We rarely had to queue though.
Showers - in a separate block a short walk from the toilets. There are only 3 showers for each sex. They cost 20p for 1 minute, £1 for 5 minutes. The water was always very warm, not a lot of it coming out but enough to get clean. As with the toilets they were cleaned regularly. Occasional queues in a morning.
It is worth mentioning that the photo's of the showers/toilets shown on their website were not the ones which were in use currently. And the photos on the website make them look better than the reality.
Pot washing - Under cover, plenty of warm water.
Park - excellent. My 6 and 2 year old loved it - well maintained and plenty to keep them interested. Also some animals to pet.
Shop - well stock and very reasonably priced.
Location - amazing. Beautiful views. Only 10 mins from Matlock Bath and 20 mins from Ashbourne.
Overall - we would highly recommend this site. It has a lovely friendly feel to it. Great location for going out for days out. Facilities are adequate for any campers needs and park and space for kids to play is very good. Very reasonably priced too.

Visited this site 29th Aug and stayed for 2 nights. What a fab site! Although a little on the muddy side at the time of visit but that was due to the 'great British weather' and really didn't stop us from having a great time. Toilet block very clean and tidy as was the shower block. Only site we've been to that we've had to pay for the showers but water was hot and plentiful and to be honest paying for them was not an issue as the price to camp was very cheap at £21 per night for 2 adults and 2 kids plus a dog. Small field for EHU and 2 larger for non-EHU but still plenty of room to play and run round. Playground was a huge hit with kids aged 10 & 6 as was watching the goats and pigs being fed. Little shop on site too at very reasonable prices. Towns of Bakewell and Ashbourne 10 miles away so pretty much in the middle of no-where but that suited us down to the ground and the wildlife factor was great because of this. Kids were fasinated by the things that we saw! Owners and help on the site was second to none and nothing was too much trouble for them. On the whole a VERY clean, tidy and friendly site and WILL definitely be returning. Thank you so very much for your hospitality.

Middle Hills Campsite is very nice. Set in the picturesque peak district with lovely views everywhere. People on reception very friendly. A good campsite if you are camping with children. Lots to do for the children and they all seemed to be enjoying themselves very much.
It's great to find another campsite who allows fires. I mean going to a campsite and not being allowed a campfire is like a car without any wheels.
Has a great little farm shop on site where you can buy lots of essentials and wood for the fire too so no need to bring your own.
Nice little pub down the road about a 5 minute walk from site.
Lots of towns and villages to visit on the way down and on the way back. Would definitely go to this campsite again and would highly recommend it to any other campers. Five out of five, we had a great night camping
