This was our first visit to the site. We arrived mid-week, the weather was fine and, at first, we were quite impressed with the site's relaxed style and modern facilities as mentioned in other reviews. We had a few niggles, the chap caretaking the site was a bit grumpy and the nearby quarry, which operated from early til late seven days a week, provided the site with a constant hum.
Things changed at the weekend, when the population of the site seemed to increase to several times the 35 pitches advertised. The weekenders were keen to party and the atmosphere was more like that of a rock festival than the great outdoors.
The party atmosphere created by the weekend crowd was not an issue for us, but the inevitable effect on the now woefully inadequate facilities was. This soon manifested itself, with several of the ladies toilets being blocked (presumably because the water pressure was inadequate to keep the cisterns topped up), paper towels running out and the showers more often cold than hot, throughout the weekend.
I doubt that we would return to this site, particularly at a peak time, but can see it meets a niche for those wanting a relaxed informal style and willing to compromise a bit on sleep and sanitation.

Just got back from a nights camping which was our first experiment into the world of Camping but it managed to convince my wife (we can go camping as long as there is a hotel for me and the kids) to actually consider going again.
The site was clean, although the female toilets did get extremely busy and the toilets did get very messy by the end of the day. Apart from that a very good trip.
Only real critique is that the sign outside the gate was a bit unclear until right on top of it. With two small children asking if they are there yet Sat Nav telling me it was another 1/2 Mile away I ended up driving straight past it :-)
The fact that camp fires are allowed was great and although we did not have one (same said two children) the atmosphere was great.

This has got to be one of the best campsite I have ever been on not only is there farm animals there for the kids to look at your also aloud campfires which I must say made the whole camping experience that much greater. They will lend you a pit our you can take a spade dig a hole and fill it in after , and there's a guy down the road who sells fire logs. We went has a group for 4 adults and 3 children from 3/9 yrs of age and being close to Matlock it self was even better.
The toilets were ok I'd give them a 7/10 the owners were very friendly and very helpful and the price for it all was fantastic
All in all I would give this site 10/10 due to the fact your allowed campfires which makes it a camping trip.

This is a fantastic campsite. The toilet was clean and never ran out of toilet rolls but could do with another paper towel dispenser. The pot washing area was just like being at home and the shower block was clean and very spacious although a little cold, but that could be because we didn't shower till late. We came as a group booking and the ability to pay on arrival was great and fantastic value at £5pppn. We also had a campfire which was brilliant and the noise levels on a night were minimal. The pub was just down the road but we didn't need to visit it. Matlock is also on the doorstep offering Gullivers Kingdom and the Heights of Abraham plus it is also very picturesque. The surrounding countryside is just breathtaking. It was a very relaxed site and you could choose where you wanted to camp. I will definitely reccommend this site to anyone and will be coming again.

Just spent a weekend at middle hills farm and had a very enjoyable time. There were a number of camping fields with really lovely views.
There is a pitch where you like policy and despite it being pretty busy we still managed to find a spot with a good view.
The toilets were generally clean but were occasionally a bit untidy at busy times. The showers were great, all nice and new, lovely and clean and plenty of hot water, but I did shower in the afternoon. There was no where to plug a hair dryer in! There was an outdoor pot washing area, there was queues at times.
There is a pub close by but we didn't use it. I didn't see any shops locally so would recommend taking what you need with you.
We had a lovely day out in Matlock Bath. Plenty of eateries and tourist type shops but didn't notice any supermarket.
All in all a good, basic site and at £5pppn, I thought it was very reasonable

Just had a wonderful weekend staying at Middle Hills Campsite thanx! Owners are very friendly & relaxed no time restriction on pitching or packing up great as we had an extra day to visit Gullivers Kingdom 10 mins away which was a huge hit with the kids!
Facilities basic but new shower block which was fab, but toilets in prefab and not with showers and in a different field! But were clean and always had toilet paper.
This campsite is great for groups and families very relaxed great atmosphere and they allow camp fires too which was great when we were all sat out at night under the stars having a beer!
No playground for kids but loads of space for them to run around and play and they loved the farm animals they could stroke!
Would really benefit from a small shop on site selling basics as nearest shop is a drive away, we ate out at pub down the road the food was ok, 2 meals for £10 good value.
We will definitely return here for a weekend again with friends

When we arrived at the site the reception area was clearly marked and the owners were very friendly.
We were given the option of paying on arrival or on departure so we paid up while we were booking in.
The site was quite basic but was very clean and our children (aged 7, 4 and 2) loved the farm animals (Pigs, Horses, Cows & Sheep) that were in the surrounding fields.
Our children were very excited about toasting marshmallows over the campfire as this was the first time we had been to a site that allowed campfires.
There is a pub (The Hollybush) about 5 minutes walk away and the food there was amazing (especially the Bailey's Cheesecake), the prices were reasonable and it was nice to warm up by the open fires as it was VERY rainy whilst we were there.
It was also a bonus that they allowed our dog into the pub and we also found out on our last day (unfortunately) that the lady that does the cooking in the pub owns a dog kennels and offers a dog sitting service, which would have been helpful as we were unable to take the children to Gullivers Kingdom as they don't allow dogs in (the Heights of Abraham do let dogs in but they are not allowed in any of the caves or buildings).
We would return to the site however until our children get a bit older we will be looking for somewhere with more on site things for our children to do in bad weather.

From beginning to end we were very impressed with the site. The lady I spoke with to book was very helpful and totally understanding when we explained on arrival that we were now only staying 2 nights instead of 3. I’ve been to several campsite in the past and have found none that even approach this one in terms of price, professionalism and sheer cleanliness.
We are a group of 3 couples all in our 20’s (just!) so we were instructed to camp somewhere at the top of the site in the back field. Whilst there’s a slight slope to it it’s not the end of the world and the ground really wasn’t bumpy at all. We had several groups of other similar people arrive later in the day that camped around us but the atmosphere remained fairly relaxed with the latest of groups turning in no later than 1am. If you are a family or in a caravan you will be in a separate field near to the facilities so the noise wont affect you (although saying that we couldn’t hear groups pretty much right next to us which was really strange?!). It’s a great site in this respect; ideal for large groups of people and families too.
We were unlucky enough to have camped in probably the worst weather of July. Whilst the site got muddy in places it wasn’t a major problem and everything was still accessible.
There’s a proper (and new) shower block with hot water along with a separate toilet block with basins (and recycling facilities outside it!) All were kept clean and tidy despite the weather, with stocks of toilet roll never running out.
The site is also in a perfect location, easy to find and great views of surrounding area too.
Pub was really quite busy when we went in for evening meals (2 meals for £10 and the biggest cheesecake you’ve ever laid your eyes on – try it) It’s only a 10 minute walk away from the site but be warned you’ll need to walk down a busy road with no pavements – keep the kids on a tight leash! There’s also a chap around the corner from the pub who sells bags of firewood for £2.50 – two bags fed a fire for one night. He has an awesome Impreza too!
I will most definitely be returning to the site again in the future and wholeheartedly recommend it to you. You wont regret it.

This is a very good camping pitch and our daughter and nieces enjoyed the freedom of the open field. Pub is a short walk away but you have to walk along a busy main road with no pavement. Although this is a brilliant campsite in the day it is a different story at night. There is a family field and a noisier field but it doesn't matter where you pitch there is no getting away from the noise which includes very loud music being played into the early hours. Shame really as it did spoil our stay considerably due to lack of sleep.

I Booked this campsite after reading the mainly positive reviews from previous visitors, being novice campers, with 2 daughtes aged 6 and 13, we wanted to give the new tent a try out for one night. The owners were very obliging when I rang up midweek to book a one night stay for July 18th.
We arrived, checked in at reception and I asked for advice where to pitch, the owner said the bottom field might be better as there were some 'rowdy' people in the top field. We took his advice and pitched up reasonably close to the toilet block, which were clean and with plenty of hot running water when we arrived. However, the amount of hot water depends on how many people are using the supply elsewhere, when it came to washing both ourselves and our pots Sunday morning there was absolutely no hot water what so ever!
Saturday evening, after nipping into Matlock Bath for fish and chips we arrived back on the site to loud music coming from the top field, as it was only 7pm, this didn't pose any problems, but this carried on through till 11pm by which time, a rather busy campsite with families, were trying to settle down for the night.
I went over to the reception area to complain as the owners had assured campers, early on that same evening, that random checks would be carried out due to loud music and disturbances on the previous night (friday). Within ten minutes of speaking to the owner the music did stop but at 2.45am we were all disturbed by yet more loud music from people returning to the site after a night out. This went on till 4.20am!
