First time we have stayed at this site, we found it by chance. On arrival we found the owner very welcoming and accommodating, we found the site very clean, friendly and well run camp site. The owner was available all day until after nine o'clock in the evening, so if we needed anything there was no problem getting help from him. It is dog friendly, and is ideal for a nice quiet rest, lovely scenery. Would stay here again and would highly recommend this place to all our friends

This is a lovely site set in the most beautiful countryside. The showers are huge, and the whole toilet block is spotless, as is the whole site. Robin has done a great job. This is a quiet site with no traffic noise, all you hear is the river and owls at night. The walk along the river into the town takes about 20mins, where there are shops and pubs, this is a lovely walk. We, and our dog will definitely come back. Thanks Robin

This is the second time I have visited Leekworth and Robin is doing a fine job with his site. He has finally got all the planning permission sorted and the facilities, 3 sinks and 5 loos in one room and 5 showers in another, in the ladies were spotless and I liked the fact the free hot showers were built quite long so the last third by the door stayed dry.

The reception is quite bare and I would guess is a work in progress but his mother and another lady were very friendly and helpful and allowed me to recharge my phone while I went off for a lovely walk along the Pennine Way to look at Low Force and High Force. Robin made me very welcome when I arrived and I was charged £12 for two nights without ehu for myself and one tent and one dog. Bargain.

The main field is split by a grassy road. The top half by the facilities had a few caravans and I got the impression they were long stay users. The fenced side by the River Tees and the Teesdale Way

Was the camping field and opposite on a narrower strip were caravans and vans. The site was very spacious. There were firepits and logs for hire. Through a gate at the other end of the field is a smaller triangular field without ehu for campers and I stayed in that the first time as I was sheltering from some serious winds.

The sound of the river flowing by the site is wonderful. Through the fields you can walk on to the Teesdale Way which leads through woods along by the river and is a very pretty walk.

The lovely village of Middleton-in-Teesdale is just a stroll away where there is a nice tearoom and a fantastic coffee shop also selling alcohol. The Co-op is conveniently round the corner.

This site, despite its brand new facilities still feels quite basic which is exactly how I like campsites and I think it really is a hidden gem. Teesdale is spectacular; there are wonderful walks and beautiful villages all around that area and the fantastic market town of Barnard Castle with Bowes Museum.

It is a very relaxing location. Meadows full of buttercups, beautiful green hills and the Pennines surrounding you and my favourite river.

I will definitely be returning to this site.

This was our first attempt at camping, myself, son and grandson, we could not have picked a better site to stay. We received a warm welcome from the owner and his family. The modern shower block was immaculate. The fire pit and supply of logs made our evenings memorable, and to top it off as well fishing on Grassholme, we had a days free fishing on their stretch of river surrounding the site, fantastic. The whole area is breathtaking with some stunning views. As a guesthouse owner I could not fault the facilities on offer at Leekworth. I will definitely return and would recommend a stay in this beautiful part of the country.

We have just come back from a three day stay at this campsite and it was a fantastic site. You couldn't ask for better toilet and shower facilities kept absolutely spotless by the owners who never seemed to stop cleaning them all hours of day and night. They were always there to help if you have any questions or queries, all in all very friendly people who would go the extra mile to make sure you felt welcome and enjoyed your stay. The field is kept mown and tidy with electric hook ups available for tents in main field with caravans or a second field non-electric for tents only. Robin comes round in the evenings to deliver fire pits and bag of logs (£5 per night).

No children's playground but the owner said he was planning on some swings in the future possibly.

No shop on site but not required in my view as the village is 10mins walk away with a co-op and local shops and cafes.

This campsite is a hidden gem of a place and I cant recommend it highly enough if your after a site to relax and chill out and is priced just right at present

We have just had a two night stay at leekworth caravan park! On arrival we were made very welcome! The site is on a very large field with water and electric next to each other, which we thought very handy! The toilet/ shower block was immaculate, at all times, with plenty hot water but ladies their are no hair dryers, just to let you know!, the site is right on the river, with some lovely walks in to Middleton itself, were their are lots of pubs cafe shops fish and chips etc, their is not a shop on the site itself.

When booking we were asked to arrive after 130 pm, this was made clear as we approached the site, it is down a very narrow lane that is a half a mile to the site, the reason the warden asks you to arrive at this time, is to make sure you do not meet another van coming in the opposite direction, we were asked to leave by 12. 00 noon, it all makes sense as I don't know what would happen if they were not organised and people came and went when they felt,

We had a very pleasant stay and would certainly go back, it's excellent if you have a dog and love countryside walks. Highly recommended.

We arrive at the site to be greeted by the owner who directed us to the pitch chatted to us and explained about the site and where to find things and places. Considering it was bank holiday and school half term there were very few children.

The setting was amazing through the gate and a beautiful walk along the river (which our golden retriever thought was just heaven!). We walked all the way to High Force and back which is a good walk but well worth it.

The site facilities were spotless and cleaned a couple of times a day (shame some campers didn't respect this and walked through to the showers with the grassy boots on - shame on them!)There is a block for women and men of showers, toilets and wash hand basins. At the end of the block is a washing up area in a separate room and under cover and likewise the elsan emptying area is also under cover. The owner made an excellent host and checked if we were ok and was very helpful with advice about filling up with water even offering to lend us his garden hose - thanks. When he wasn't around chatting to everyone then his mother was although not obtrusively. It was slightly more money than we had realised initially but more than worth it. All the caravans and motorhomes had a hard standing and the majority of the tents were in a separate field with only a handful in the same field as us.

Unfortunately the grass next to the hard standing had 3 holes just where the awning was to go obviously where someone previously had put something into the ground but this did not deter us and we had a great time made better of course by the weather. Shops churches pubs and several restaurants all within 10 minutes walk.

As long as the owner doesn't increase the numbers this is just a great site and we look forward to going back again.

Stayed here for 2 weekends in a row in June 2013 with other friends with a touring caravan. The site itself is lovely, spacious flat pitches with hard standing if you are on electric. The field is large and completely fenced in so no worries about children or dogs getting to the river unaccompanied. We were lucky and the weather was fantastic so walks along the river were very enjoyable. As already said the shower/toilet block are immaculate and the only slight negative is the access road which is very narrow with few passing points.

The owner was pleasant and helpful however his mother & grandmother did make you feel a little 'watched over' at times as they seemed to be constantly checking pitches / people. The site as a whole could do with being a little more flexible, we requested to stay after the 12 o'clock leave time on the Sunday and this was greeted with questions and surprise as if it were a strange request. However they did accommodate us, for a small fee. Maybe this is down to a lack of understanding in what a caravanner expects or wants from a relaxing weekend away from home, if they have never been a caravanner themselves?

The site could benefit from a play area, and there certainly is the room, however I wouldn't say this is a necessity as the children were more than happy playing in the wide open spaces and by the river.

The village has everything you could possible need within a short 10 - 15 minute walk, including a very good play area, behind the co-op.

All in all we would recommend this site to friends and we will definitely be returning in the near future.

This is a beautiful family run site, set in meadows alongside the river Tees with spectacular views of the upper Tees valley, close to Middleton-in Teesdale from where you can explore the Tees valley and beyond by foot, by car or by bus. The site has plenty of space and provides electric hook-ups and non-electric pitches, there is a separate field for groups and parties so there's always room to pitch near the river in the peace and quiet. The amenities are excellent, a new facilities block built from local stone with spacious and plentiful showers, toilets, washbasins plus power points and mirrors for that essential touch of glamour! There is a suite for disabled visitors and the site is very accessible, but check with Robin, the owner first for details. Hot water is free but shuts off between 12 and 3. 00pm so don't get taken by surprise. The washing up facilities are a bit small but o. K. If people are sensible and caravanners wash up in their caravans - please note! At the moment there are no washing machines or driers.

Middleton-in Teesdale is a 10 minute walk away with shops, pubs, cafes, a Co-op open 7 days a week, a famous hardware shop that sells everything you could need and many things you didn't imagine that you needed and possibly the best butchers in the North East. Robin and family are on hand with help and advice and are available via a mobile when not on the site. Robin is always listening to the views of visitors on how to improve the site and you feel like a valued guest. There isn't a children's' playground but there's a natural one all around and children seem to love the freedom and the adventure of trees and a river close by. The site is fenced with stone walls and gates so they are safe too. You can rent a firepit, have your own barbecue, stroll by the river, go fishing, play on the fields, take a walk. If you like a really relaxing and chilled out site in a beautiful setting, then this is for you.

Just arrived home after a 2 night stay and must say this camp site is in a league of it's own! We found it easy to find, the owner greeted us with a warm welcome before directing us to the tent area. We have two children who were safe to play while we set up as the whole area is fenced off. After setting up we went to check out the toilets and showers and WOW! I was taken aback when I entered as I usually avoid camp site toilet blocks like the plague! These were warm, clean, spacious with plenty of benches, shelves etc. Even had plugs and holders for hair dryers. Like I said I usually have to be forced into camp site toilets and never touch anything! So I made a point of even sitting on the floor to put on my socks! The owner talked about adding some Childs swings to the tent area which would be a welcome addition for families like us! We enjoyed beautiful weather thankfully and enjoyed a walk to high and low force which were just down the road along with local shops etc. We had to venture to Barnard castle for medicine for our daughter who came out in chicken pox on our first night and it was a bank holiday. It didn't take long and we also got pizza :-) all in all we had a wonderful time at a wonderful camp site and wouldn't go anywhere else now! The owner made sure everyone was ok regularly driving around asking if anyone wanted fire pits, we didn't bother as we retired to the tent quite early anyway but for 5 pounds we would have!
