Just come back from a few days at Leekworth. What a gem of a place - absolutely spotless. Lovely flat site in a great setting next to the river - I don't think that many people are aware of Leekworth as it was very quiet (which was nice for us, but probably not for the really friendly owners who are really trying their very hardest to make it such a fantastic site - and for that you need the visitors).
Within walking distance of the centre with various pubs, chip shop, butchers, hardware shop that seemed to sell everything and a handy Co-op store.
A short drive to Barnard Castle where you can have a mooch round the independent shops and castle grounds and there is a Morrisons if you need to stock up. High Force is only up the road and is a nice gentle stroll from the visitor car park.
Back to the site - there is a new toilet and shower block which, when the Gents are finished, will be fantastic - cleanest loos and showers I have ever seen! (Mum and Gran were seen on numerous occasions with their mop and buckets), disabled loo and shower, pot wash and chemical disposal point and only £5 per person per night plus extra for EHU - the fire pits appeared very popular with a lot of people when we were there. We stuck to the wine to keep us warm !
One of the best sites we have stayed at and will definitely be going back. Good luck for the future Robin and Family - hope all your hard work pays off.

Recently a group of 12 Vintage tractor enthusiasts including myself stayed at Leekworth for the weekend.
We were welcomed to the site by the owner who ensured that we knew where all the facilities were and what was available in the nearby village.
The site was very clean and its facilities were excellent. There are not many sites that will accommodate a group like ours complete with our tractors
So our thanks go to the owners for making our stay pleasant and allowing all the tractors on the site

Spent two nights at this site (minus the children) whilst away walking for our recent wedding anniversary. Yes, as others had said, the drive leading down to the site is narrow but don't let that put you off, the site really is top notch.
The toilet block, although not fully finished has all that you need - toilets, showers (inc. Disabled), dish wash & chemical waste disposal.
The location is ideal if you like peace and quie; located next to the river with plenty of space around you and some excellent views.
Robin the owner is always at hand and appears never to stop (except for a quick chat).
The walk into Middleton is about 10mins where you'll find all the usual cafes, pubs, etc. (can definitely recommend eating at the the Forresters).
Would we return - already booked in with Robin for 2 nights next year! What does that tell you. !

We've just comme back from leekworth caravan park, we had a brilliant time and the surrounding is really nice. Especially great to have the river just next to it.
The facilities were really nice, new and well thought off. The only thing missing in the showers would be to have a shelf to put your bag on and may be a stool. The gents aren't completed but I don't think it's far off, so the men have to use the disable one.
The owner was really nice and really helpful, so was is Grandma!
Middleton is just a few minutes walk from the campsite where you can find lovely pub, fish and chips and cafe.
We will definitely go back as soon as we can.

Had a 3 night short break booked at leekworth 3 adults 1 tent, 2 dogs and 2 cars(couldn't get everything into 1 !), costing £60. 00. Surrounding countryside is beautiful.
Access onto site was a little bumpy, quite narrow track. Field we were in was very flat with trees on the outskirts. Beautiful walk around the site which is on the teesdale pass, very close to the river, which was very peaceful.
Few resident caravans, geese and hens pecking about. Owner very helpful, kept popping around to make sure everything was fine.
Toilet block very new and clean- could do with a stool or hair in shower to keep your bits and bobs on, and no electric point in toilets, which was a shame.
Stroll in Middleton about 15 minutes or 10 minutes- depending on how quick you walk- lots of good pubs with food, good butcher and most importantly a co-op which stocks everything and open until 10.00 most nights.
Hired a fire pit the 2nd night which cost £5. 00 and a good supply of logs, which was great fun, robin you should sell marshmallows for folks to toast!
Anyway the only downer was later on the 2nd night a load of folks in tents and caravans turned up and the place got a bit busier- lots of kids running around playing swingball and football at 11.00pm, a few campers left the next morning because of this, not that I'm adverse to families, got one myself, just irresponsible parents- shame as this was a lovely site, and would defo return if campsite policies were tightened up (for example ensuring kids are supervised, and no ball games after a certain time- (just a suggestion). Could be a cracking site !

As first time family campers, we phoned on a friday and reserved a pitch for the saturday night. The site is well signposted as you arrive in Middleton-in-Teesdale and fairly easy to get to via a narrow track behind the Cricket Club.
We were welcomed by Robin who was very helpful and directed us to a lovely quiet spot in the top field as we had our two young girls with us.
After we'd put the tent up we had a little wander down to the river, (literally yards away)
The walk along the river into Middleton-in-Teesdale was around ten minutes and very picturesque.
We returned a while later with a very tasty fish supper and Robin delivered a fire pit and a bag of wood as it was getting chilly, very reasonable at £5. 00.
All in all we had a lovely time as did the kids and the site is very clean, friendly & quiet and we will definitely be returning.

Just back from Leekworth, this is our second visit. We visited the first time in May, and loved it, but new shower and toilet block wernt quite finished, and still don't think gents toilets are quite finished, Showers look lovely but I do wish there was a bit more pressure with the water. It seems to trickle out and you have to press the botton about every 30 seconds, shame.
Another problem this time I am covered in midgie bites, obviously as the River Tees flows past. We were just about eating them on Friday night. We had to sit in the tent to eat and the sun was shining. So be prepared.

Spent 2weeks camping at this very peaceful site with lovely views. Facilities are very good, very new and kept very clean. The Manager was very friendly and available all the time if anything was needed.
A very safe secure site considering that all is left in your tent when you go off for the day walking. Gate secure at night too. Ideal for families as children would love the large open green area in the middle to play in view of parents. Safely fenced from the river but if you have a dingy then brilliant through the gate for a little trip on the river that has a lovely natural slipway.
This site drains very well as we did get a lot of rain for a few days, it held up very well.
We had our dog with us and there is a designated dog area for the early morning trot out so the site is very considerate of people who are not doggie lovers, with the usual dogs on leads rule.
This site I can see is going to get very popular as word carries.
Washing up facilities are very good and sheltered. Amazing disabled toilet and shower facility, this is a special feature that this site has.
In Middleton-in-Teesdale it's a brilliant center for exploring both Teesdale and Weardale and we did the lot within easy reach of this site,

Our second visit to this site and this time we took friends.
The rain had been bibical the night before so a quick phone call to the owner confirmed that everything was ok (the site drains well). As before booking in is friendly and hastle free with clear advice where to pitch.
This site is improving all the time with the new purpose built toilet/shower block taking shape nicely (hopes to be totally completed before the school holidays!) We were impressed with the improvements made since our last visit and it does credit to Robin's self admission of 'wanting everything to be right'.
The village itself is a ten minute walk away and a pleasure to visit. All the local people encountered are friendly and welcoming. Would highly recommend the Chip shop and book shop as worth a visit.
Our second night had quite a number (but not too many) other campers, but as always Robin was on hand to make sure everything was ok, even taking time to chat with us and explain his future plans.
I would happily recommend this site to anyone who wishes to stay in this area and we will return here in the near future, we now feel that this is our local 'home' site! This site does not pretend to be the luxury site that some campers seem to want, but a good clean honest site that is reasonably priced and very well ran. Definitely 10 out of 10 when the toilets are completed!

We had a wonderful time at this tranquil site.
Idyllic situation amidst hay meadows beside the beautiful river Tees. The owner was most attentive in his responsibilities, full of smiles and most helpful. Newly opened toilet block was kept very clean at all times - gents weren't opened but hopefully will be in time for main season. A few more coat and towel hooks would be a good thing. Only one dishwashing sink at present.
The site is conveniently situated only a 10 minute walk from Middleton which is well served with all amenities and a regular bus service. An excellent base for accessing the stunning countryside of the North Pennines - we walked our socks off.
The blue gentians at Cow Green reservoir were a treat as was the wonderful walk up to High Force and the real ale at The Strathmore Arms, Holwick.
Keep this site special Robin, we'll be back!
