Leekworth is beautiful flat green site situated on the banks of the River Tees - clean water. There is a fence with gates between the campsite and the river. The owner, Robin, is very welcoming and friendly and he takes great care of and pride in the site. The grass is outstanding and a pleasure to pitch a tent on. The toilets are very modern and were spotlessly clean. Robin hires out fire pits and logs which provide a warm cheer on a chilly evening.

The site is a the end of a narrow lane. It is an easy walk along the river into the small town of Middleton in Teesdale, which has all the usual facilities - shops, pubs, cafes. The are plenty of opportunities for walking and cycling - there is a an off-road old railway track that goes almost all the way to Barnard Castle, which is good for walking and biking (quite a lot of gates, though). Lots of public footpaths which follow the river of wander higher up the fell sides. Advise buying the OS map OL31. Some of the best waterfalls in England are a short distance up stream of the campsite.

Apologise for the delay in writing review but we did promise owner that we would write one.

This is a new site which of course shows straight away in the lovely facilities although when we visited there was only the disabled toilet available. Washing up facilities indoors which is always a bonus were more than adequate with plenty of hot water. There was a space for ball games. We were pitched down by the river which was lovely but if you are bothered by the closing of the wooden gate and folk passing quite close when using the dog walk you are probably better going for a pitch further away from the river. There is a lovely walk from the site into the village.

The only downside to this site is the drive up to the entrance which is a bit off putting having to drive through what looks like a scrap yard but once you get on site it is fine and you don't really have to go off site to enjoy nice riverside walks

We love this site - returned last week from our 3rd visit and planning another one in the next couple of weeks.

The location is great. Public footpath running alongside the filed with the river next to it with free fishing.

Fire pits are a real winner. 5-10 minute walk to village with small co-op. Village also has a small play area.

Shower blocks nice - clean, warm - each has its own stool and hooks on back of door.

Showers/toilet floor sometimes get very wet not sure is this is because people don't use the sqeegy to sweep away excess water after use or poor drainage (or combination)

Owners listen to customers and reviews eg have introduced free use of freezer for freezer blocks and undertaken work to improve the access lane.

Two half size goals in the field adjoining field were a big success with our son.

1st impression on entering site: large, flat, green, camp field and new shower/toilet/reception block. All neat and tidy. Free showers with plenty of room in cubicles and a stool. Sockets for your own hairdryer. Free ice block freezer facilities. A public footpath runs along one side of the camp field with the river Tees running close by. New gates from field make access easy. A very large playing field. Lovely to have a camp fire on an evening but service could do with a review as the apparatus is collected back in the following morning. Perhaps hire it out for duration of stay with a returnable deposit. Logs and sticks were dry. Site run by friendly 3 generations of family. No shop on site but can buy most things in the village.

Cannot fault this campsite in any way during our visit. A superb base for our week long holiday.

Good, well maintained flat field, ideal for our family tent.

Our 2 children aged 11 & 13 years old well occupied with a separate field which has 2 football goals and adjacent river to play in have met their needs.

Exceptionally clean shower and toilet block.

General area unspoilt and untouristy even in the height of August. Locals in the shops all so friendly and Middleton a short 10 minute walk away provides all essentials for us campers.

This is a gem of a campsite that ticks all the boxes for our family holiday. !

We have just returned from a few nights stay at Leekworth Park and I would definitely recommend it. The shower and toilet block are kept immaculately clean. The field is set in a valley with lovely views all round. We were in a spot right next to the river and the sound of water was so relaxing. All the pitches have plenty of room around them and it has been well thought out. The owner is extremely friendly and helpful and comes around every day to see if everything is ok. On an evening you are able to hire a 'fire' and he comes around with logs - these are well worth the money and we have had a lovely couple of nights sat out with the fire going. There is plenty of room for kids to play and there is a separate field for playing football. It is well located for days out visiting places and whilst the lane leading up to the site is narrow, it certainly isn't a problem. We will definitely be going back!

We've just returned from a long weekend stay here, our first visit to this site. The site is well described on its website, it's quiet and relaxing in great surroundings and not the place to go if you want to party all night. We were in tents (one electric hook up and one without) and there was plenty of space around us with most of the pitches being around the outside of a large field with the middle being left open for ball games. The adjacent large field was also a good play area, complete with half-size goals.

The owners work hard to deliver a first rate camping experience and were always around to speak to on any issue. Robin in particular is very attentive both on arrival and near departure.

The WC and shower facilities appear to be new and in very good condition. The only downside to this site is that, to ensure the facilities are kept spotless, the owners close them for between 2 and 4 hours each day for cleaning, leaving only the one 'disabled' tolet for the entire site from about noon onwards. There are good pot wash facilities and it's great that the site provides a freezer in which campers can put their coolbox freezer blocks overnight.

The River Tees runs through and around part of the site and its constant babbling over the rocks can be heard very clearly during the night - sounding like a strong wind through trees - so perhaps not ideal for light sleepers in some areas of the site.

Access to the site is via a very narrow track with little opportunity for pulling over if you meet a vehicle coming the other way - as happened to us. Potholes are a minor concern compared to having to reverse a few hundred yards back down the lane. I've no idea what caravan owners would do if they met head on half way up/down the lane? However the lane does provides a nice walk into the village which has shops, pubs and everything else you might need. However, check on opening times and days, we were caught out three times: really wonderful, value for money, fish and chip shop (closed Mondays), a lovely cafe/tea room (closed three days per week). Dogs were welome outside all of the shops, bars and cafes we used. Combining both these comments: the Strathmore Arms welcomes dogs and is 'Open all year round' (closed Tuesdays!)

We know, and live relatively close to this area so we didn't visit the many local attractions available - we can do that anytime. We just chilled and relaxed. Hot tip: hire a fire pit and a big bag of logs from Robin the owner who comes around the site daily to offload them, and at £5 per night you can't go wrong; our fire was still burning well from about 20:00 to 23:30, when we chose to put it out.

Anything we would like the site to improve? Well, perhaps reduce the closure time due to cleaning in the facilities block and, with polite notices, encourage campers to keep the place tidy and clean to a standard they would expect for themselves; provide a stool in each shower cubicle (Gents), the one small communal bench is insufficient at busy times; provide a clear area where owners can walk dogs and perhaps let them run off lead - although I appreciate that controlling what went on in that area would be difficult.

Overall, it's a great site for a relaxing camping experience - we'll be back.

Spent a weekend at this very pleasant site the first thing to mention is that the road to the site has been fully repaired.

The site has a brand new road leading to each hardstanding which have hookup and a water supply. The toilet block is brand new and kept clean and tidy. The site is well looked after with good views. Each pitch is well spaced out with tents on another part of the site. Middleton is a short walk away with everything you may need. So to sum up great site run by friendly people with excellent facilities with peace and quiet in great countryside will use again

I stayed here in tents with relatives for 11 nights in June. The site is a haven of peace and pleasant views set against the background of the rumble of the river Tees. The owner, his mother & Nanna operate the site effectively & conscientiously. Robin is a driven man fully committed to improving the site and ensuring the best possible experience for his guests. The local facilities are a pleasant walk away down a lane rich with wildlife: stoats, rabbits, many types of songbirds, pheasant, ducks, geese, owls and much more. The lane has had the worst of the pot holes sorted and much of it has been re-surfaced;if you find what's left of the pot holes to be challenging then slow down - you're driving too fast. The toilets & showers are immaculately maintained and there are dish-washing facilities and an Elsan disposal point. This was the very best camping experience I have had for an excellent rate of £6 per night. You simply can't knock it for the value it represents. We will return to this outstanding site and its outstanding operators; lovely people, lovely place, lovely time.

We've just returned from 7 nights at Leekworth, our first visit to this site and the area and we were impressed with both. The site is what it says on the tin, not the place to go if you want to party but definitely the place to chill and relax. Plenty of space with the pitches being around the outside of a huge field with the middle left open for ball games etc. The new facilities were very good, lovely clean toilets and showers and plenty of them for a relatively small site. The River Tees runs right alongside the site although it is safely fenced off, this is part of the Pennine Way so people pass alongside the site if doing the walk. There is a short pebbled are where you can walk down to the water's edge.

I have seen many comments on reviews about the pot holes on the lane down to the site, well some work has been done on these and we didn't find the lane a problem at all. As said it is a narrow lane for about 1/2 a mile, but there are some points where two cars can pass, although you don't often meet anyone else. This lane provides a lovely walk into the beautiful village of Middleton-in-Teesdale which has everything you could need, there is a well stocked Co-op, and a wonderful fish and chip shop - try the steak pies, they're delicious as is the fish - and many other small shops. We spent a lovely afternoon sat outside the Teesdale Hotel having a nice cool beer. The people in the area are extremely welcoming.

Lots of nice places to visit in the area, but would highly recommend a trip to High Force and Low Force waterfalls, both are very easily accessible, High Force in particular has a gently sloping gravel path down to the falls, really well worth the visit.

There is a delightful pub in nearby Holwick, The Strathmore Arms, which serves wonderful food and is very dog friendly. We took Bailey with us for a meal and he was made most welcome with treats from the landlady!

The only improvements that we would offer to this site are very small things. The light in the toilets is on a timer and goes off after about five minutes, could be a bit of a problem if you had a call during the night! An area where you could walk your dog off lead would be a very welcome improvement as there isn't anywhere at the moment. Other than that its lovely as it is and we will definitely return.
