We booked by phone direct with the site owner and arrived at midday to be signed in. The approach road is quite narrow and not a very pleasant outlook/journey and the reception and facilities are all in portable buildings at the entrance to a large open field.
We had booked for hook up which included water on tap. The electrics seemed to have been newly installed and worked Ok. The site is in field which runs right next to the river Tees and on the day we stayed it had a mixture of camper vans, caravans but mostly large tents with large groups of campers staying there.
We were a bit put off when the owner said ' If you get any bother 'call me' but we had a very quiet night and no problems. As its newly changed ownership it might get better but the facilities are (lets say just basic) and it might be muddy in rainy periods as no roads to pitches.
If you want to pitch right on the river bank with no hook up this is the place to go. Its 20 minute walk into Middleton along the river path.

Lovely location, very quiet and peaceful with river Tees running at bottom of field,
Very quite campsite with no noise after 10pm which makes a nice change, very friendly owner,
I would highly recommend the site to families with children. Campsite offers good value for money when compared to neighbouring sites,
Short walk to Middleton village which offers good shops, pubs and chippy and high force is just a short drive away.
Only down side is campsite has no shower facilities as yet (hence 9/10 overall review), however toilets and washroom are spotless. The campsite is maintained to a good overall standard with electrical hook up available,
This was our first visit to Leekworth Caravan Park and we will definitely use this campsite again

We visited this site for our first camping trip as it was not too far away from home (just in case it all went horribly wrong!). We were welcomed by the owner as we arrived on site and he immediately took us to our pitch. He was very friendly and keen to make us feel at home.
The site is a proper campsite (ie Back to basics) with only one toilet and washing facility for females and two toilets and washing facility for males without any showers. However the owner advised us that this will change for next season as he has had plans drawn up for construction of a new shower block which he hopes to have open for the 2011 season. There is a stand pipe for fresh water but no washing up facilities as far as we could tell. There was also waste disposal facilities.
The site is situated right next to the river with beautiful surrounding countryside which more than made up for the rather basic facilities. The village of Middleton-in-Teesdale is close by with all the amenities one would require, ie Supermarket, pubs, cafes and excellent fish and chip shop. Providing the owner goes ahead with the planned shower block I can see this site becoming extremely popular. We will return.

This was the only site I could find on the banks of the river tees which allows dogs.
the owner was welcoming to me and my friends and said hello to my dog too.
very tranquil location on the river tees with the pennine way running through the site making this perfect for ramblers.
no play area for kids on site but we had a football and the town of middleton in teesdale which is only a five minuet walk away has a public play park which is nice and a co-op which is open till 10 every night.
toilet facilities on the site are small, basic and clean.
you couldn't want more when what you want is peace, tranquillity, and freedom.

Just returned from a night at Leekworth - we were very impressed - a fantastic site in a great location.
The site is nicely secluded and a comfortable walking distance from Middleton in Teesdale
(we found the local chippie to be excellent, as were the 2 ales available in the Teesdale hotel).
There are plenty of good walks available from the campsite with the Teesdale way, Pennine way and Tees railway path all very close by (the site is actually on the Teesdale way). We had a lovely circular walk from the campsite that took in Middleton in Teesdale and Mickleton.
The river Tees runs through the bottom of the main field - there were some nice spots for the kids to paddle in and its a lovely spot for relaxing and taking in the views.
The site felt very relaxed compared with others I have been to and there was plenty of space for the kids to play in.
The facilities included a toilet block which was kept spotless and well-stocked throughout our visit.
The owner Robin was very helpful and friendly - he also had lots of knowledge about the local area.
In summary I would definitely recommend this site and we will be going back again soon.

The access to the site was down a small lane but when you get there there is a lovely well kept field. Lots of space and the river runs along the bottom.
Only toilets available but they were clean and generally well looked after. The man who runs the site couldn't be friendlier, very considerate of our comfort.
A very beautiful spot, much recommended. The surrounding area is very beautiful with scenery, wildlife, birding, High Force very near. The river is lovely and not deep at the camp edge so it should not be a concern to parents.

Great camp site tucked out of the way at the end of a lane, you have to search for it but well worth the effort if you want a quiet site. The facilities are basic but well maintained and clean.
Robin (owner) is friendly and welcoming and I am sure this site will develop and become popular under his steerage.
The location is stunning, in fields set along the banks of the Tees, plenty of good walking right on the doorstep.
Middleton village can be walked to along the river bank in 15-20 minutes at a steady pace, or back along the lane in 10 mins. All you need is there, with a decent menu good ale in the Hotel, or more gastro type pubs around.
I choose the site for access to the river for canoeing, Ideal. Will Be back soon.

We stayed at Leekworth campsite for one night in July and we had a lovely time
The campsite was right on the river and you could walk for miles either way it was a five mile walk to high force.
You could go down to the river from the campsite and the children loved paddling in the river.
The owner robin was very friendly and helpful.
There were only toilet blocks on site and no showers but were kept clean at all times.
We are looking forward to returning again next year.

We have just returned from our 2 night stay.
The site is in the most beautiful spot on the banks of the river.
The river bank is easy to get to and great for paddling, the kids loved it.
There are just few toilets that are regularly checked and clean.
There are no play facilities for the kids but ours were happy to run around the field, where there was loads of space for them
The site is just a few minutes in the car to low and high force. And there are plenty of walks to enjoy with out getting in the car.
Middleton teesdaleis a lovely village but one of the downside is that there is no decent pub
One of the best things about the site is the owner, he is friendly relaxed and keen to chat to all who stay on the site.
We will be going again sometime soon

Stayed at this site for two nights over the weekend and have to say it was brilliant. It’s a lovely site with the river tees running along one side of the camp site. The guy that runs it is very friendly and helpful. It’s quite a big site so there’s plenty of room for people so you don’t feel like you’re being crowded. The on site facilities are a toilet block and wash room at the top end of the site which was pretty much spotless the entire time. The village (which is nice and has a cracking chippy!) is only a ten minute walk from site so it’s handy if you need to top up on supplies at the local supermarket or just fancy a wander and a pint!
There’s plenty to do if you like walking, as there’s a footpath that runs all the way along the river, and the two waterfall’s high force and low force aren’t far away.
All in all a very nice camp site which we will definitely be revisiting.
