We have just returned from enjoying this lovely campsite, owners made you very welcome and it's a nice change when they can find the time just to have a chat. The countryside is amazing the choice of walks from the campsite is really good, we did a fabulous circular one about 12 miles in total that included the river, fields, local villages and a disused railway line. The site also has modern spacious and clean toilets, we will return.

Just spent the bank holiday weekend here and the actual site is lovely. Great views and walks, and the village was great with very friendly people in the pubs/hotel and the best fish and chips I have had in a long while. The surrounding countryside is stunning with easy access to many interesting places.

A few things could be improved - the wonderful new toilet block has marvellous showers but could do with a small stool in, the hand dryers were completely ineffectual, and there was no outside light during the night.

But sadly, my husband would not consider returning until the access road is redone as it is dire.

Rang at short notice and able to book two pitches for tents. Beautiful site, loads of space around pitches. Can also opt for Electric Pitches. Beautiful surroundings, lovely babbling brook runs round site. Shower, toilet block and other facilities spotless and well equipped. Fire pits to rent and wood can be purchased on site which adds to the experience. Friendly owner who was always willing to help. Would definitely recommend this camp site for tents or caravans. No big noisy groups which was a bonus. Will definitely be booking lots of future visits to this site. Also have a bunk house which looks to be good value which I may try out next visit.

Just spent the Easter weekend here and didn't want to leave. The site is well organised and clean. I love how there aren't loads of signs everywhere telling you what to do and what not to do. A site that operates on common sense and good manners from other campers as everything was fine. The shower and toilet block was extremely clean and the owners were around without being in your face. My only little niggle is that the electrics tripped a few times the first night- the whole site. I understand it was because someone was overloading it, however normally it only trips that unit and not everyone else's- so maybe some changes needed, but other than that it was perfect. The walk along the river is lovely and I liked how the centre of the field was left free for the kids to play- they could of easily fitted in another 20 units but have obviously chosen to leave space for people to use. Will definitely be back.

We discovered this campsite by accident when the one we had booked let us down. We were glad that they did as this is a wonderful campsite in a picturesque location!

We received a very friendly welcome from Robin who gave us helpful information about the surrounding area and helped us settle in well. The site was clean, peaceful and level in most places so pitching was easy. It was secure and dog-friendly. The reception, shower/toilet and washing up block was new and well-equipped for campers - also nice and warm on a chilly night! The site was situated near to the centre of Middleton, however the track to the site has numerous potholes to avoid - the only negative thing about this site.

A great base for touring; we went as far as Dumfries & Galloway but we will certainly return to this site and spend more time in the local area.

We booked over the phone on the day as we were in the area. The approach single track road as mentioned in previous reviews is full of potholes, but the owner is doing his best and it is obviously a work in progress.

The site itself was lovely, with fantastic views and riverside walks into town, which is full of character and useful facilities.

The new toilet/shower block is amazing. Although it was quiet, being mid week, there are plenty of cubicles, so should not be a problem when busier. I have never seen such huge shower cubicles on a campsite. What a luxury!

Our children are older, so we don't look for playgrounds, but if they had been younger, the surrounding space and river would adequately have occupied them.

Only downside with children is the pricing structure. As normal, the price includes 2 adults, however children are £6 per child per night, which is expensive, especially when staying for longer.

Even so, would definitely return.

Lovely campsite with nice clean (and warm) facilities. The owner was friendly and chatty and as a lone camper I was made to feel comfortable. The log burner was a godsend as it was chilly on the evenings. Next time I'm bringing marshmallows! The owner has lots of plans for the site- the lodge is finished now and looks so pretty on an evening. Quiet whilst I was there (mid-week) but mainly couples and families- no problems with noise on the night. Ideally placed near to the village- plenty of pubs, cafes and a co-op. Ideal campsite for my dog, as the riverside walk was right next to the site. We packed a lot into the visit: cauldron snout at cow green reservoir, Gibson's cave, low force and high force from bowlees visitor centre (all stunning waterfalls). Also a sweet little garden at Eggleston hall.

We have spent 2 nights at this site and we're very impressed with the set up that the owner has got going on there.

The site is essentially a large, flat field that sits along side a lovely stretch of river. I understand that fishing is free there but I didn't partake so can't confirm that. The layout is electric, hard standing pitches up the middle of the field with non hard standing pitches around the perimeter. Some hard electric but not all. The toilet block is pretty new and is excellent although only the disabled section was open as the site was very quiet so there was no need for anything else. I was told that other toilets can be opened if it was becoming an issue but there was absolutely no problem. Nice big room with a good hot shower and toilet and sink. The block had a separate washing up room and another room for emptying the chemical loo.

The village of Middleton-in-Teesdale is only a short stroll back down the lane and is a really nice place. It has several cafés and a good co-op. Just caught the fresh bread going on the shelves! The cafe 1618, as mentioned in other reviews is definitely worth a visit. Had a cracking all day breakfast with a pint of real ale and apple pie to finish. Well I was on my holidays after all!

High Force waterfall is close by and there are plenty if walks from the site which we really liked as we have a dog and enjoying walking. There are lots of places to exercise your dog in the area so no worries on that front. The surrounding countryside is just beautiful.

The owner has also just finished, what I can only describe as, a mini stone cottage set on its own in the corner of another field. It looks fantastic and he kindly showed me around it. It sleeps 5 and has a wood burning stove and I'm sure would be great if you fancy something a little more flash.

To sum up I couldn't recommend this site highly enough. The only negative which I can comment on was the condition of lane approaching the site. The potholes were terrible and we had to drive very very slowly. However the owner was repairing the lane whilst we were there so I'm sure it won't be an issue for much longer. Although we like to travel around and rarely go to the same site twice I am sure we will return here in the future.

We were booked onto this site over the easter weekend. The approach to the site was narrow to say the least and given the fact that the road had a large number of pot holes only exasperated the approach. On arrival the narrowness of the road was obviously a sore point to the owner who was very unsympathetic and dismissed our opinion almost immediately. We paid £102 for two adults and two children under 11 for 3 nights. There is a lovely stream right beside the site, some great walks and a brand new clean toilet block. Other than that the site is basically just a field with several electric hook ups. The electric tripped the whole site by 20. 30 the first night and was constantly on and off. We awoke the next morning very cold as the electric was off all night and decided to leave given the fact that we had paid so much for the weekend. We found the owner to be very unapproachable however he did refund us for the two nights we did not stay at the site. Overall we felt that the site was over priced and in the wrong location given the narrow lane you have to attempt to reach the site.

We stayed at Leekworth this past weekend and cannot wait till we get to come back! The owner was very welcoming, and although only meeting over the phone the owner was very pleasant and helpful! You can tell that the land is very well cared for. The campsite sit on the edge of the river it is very picturesque! Next time we will remember our rods to take at vantage of the free fishing available! There is no lack of places to walk and enjoy the beautiful country views. We also were recommended to a cafe near by called Cafe 1618, though a wait it was worth it for a nice lunch in the woods. Our facilities at Leekworth Caravan Park shocked me in a good way! All brand new and so clean! Not what you expect camping. The little lodge tucked away in the corner of the field has my interests peaked, would love a night there! Can't wait to see it finished! This is definitely our new stomping grounds and cannot wait for warmer weather and long weekends to spend here! Such a great place! Thanks so much for an excellent weekend outside! We didn't want to leave!
