Just returned from a two day visit to this site and would happily recommend it.

This was our first expedition in our new tent as we are returning to camping after 20 years.

The site was a little tricky to find (*hint look out for a row of lock up garages on the right of Leekworth Gardens the farm track is next to them down the back of the houses) but once found we were quickly signed in and pitched.

We were placed in the upper field and chose a spot next to the river. The site is kept very tidy with the owner constantly busy in some part of it. There is obvious work ongoing with new gates and fencing as well as marking out for the showers etc, which when complete will make this a first class site.

The toilets and other facilities were kept very clean even though the weather wasn't helpful and nothing was out of place or missing. The only slight criticism is that the males have 2 cubicles and 2 urinals yet the females had only 1 cubicle, an imbalance that hopefully will be addressed with the future plans. It was a shame that fellow campers didn't take as much pride with some litter appearing (and being removed) and owners not cleaning up after their dogs.

The village itself is a pleasant 15 mins walk away and worth the effort. People were very friendly and helpful. There was an abundance of cafes and pubs for meals etc, but the Chippie was our highlight, the best and most reasonable we have found!

We would happily return to this site and recommend it to anyone who is looking for a good weekend site.

Stayed 2 nights in our tent, really handy that we could park car next to pitch. Good location as it is on the Teesdale Walk & right next to the River Tees.

No showers, however, Robin the owner promises that the shower block will be up & ready for next season which will be an added bonus for anyone wanting to camp longer than a few nights.

Pleasant 10 minute walk along the farm road or 25 minutes along the track next to the river into Middleton where there lots of good eating & drinking places.

We will definitely return, with or without showers. (NB I scored 5/10 because of no showers however, once there are in place then a defo 10/10

Highly recommended!

Went to campsite open minded, and loved every minute of it.

Location perfect, right next to the river and woods, toilets nice and clean, owner keeps noisy campers at bay after 10 o clock. All in all a top site.

The owner is always on hand if you need him. Barney just 10 mins away lovely pubs for lunches, took my dog, kept him on a chain he loved the open space and long walks up the river and in to the woods.

Very friendly site with great places to visit all around.

I will defo be going back there.

Leekworth is a very beautiful campsite. The Tees runs right beside it and you can walk along it to Middleton in teesdale. The village itself was well stocked, co-op, bakers, butchers, general store, chippy, couple of pubs, cafes all were dog friendly.

We wanted to stay for longer but had prior engagements arranged, we will be going back soon.

The new shower block was just coming out of the ground while we were there and should be ready for the 2012 season.

Facilities at the minute are basic but spotlessly clean and it was nice having to boil a pan of water to get washed and do the dishes (proper camping) for a change.

Thanks Robin and Liz for an excellent time. We have been looking for a campsite not to far away that we can go to regularly and I believe we have now found it.

Just like to say what a lovely site, in beautiful surroundings. We stayed for 3 nights, group of adults and children, about 12 of us in total.

Kids loved the river, happy playing there all day, while the grown ups could relax and take in the scenery, as well as a few drinks. Robin, the owner, was happy to leave us to our own devices, weren't told to be quiet at 10. 30 like a lot of other sites do. Though he did make sure he told those that weren't sticking to rules and gave them warnings. Which is only right.

Walks were nice for the dog, also quick trip into town for chips where the locals also commented that the owner will do good job at Leekworth, after only being open a year.

Toilet facilities, very basic, but clean, no showers as yet, but they are on building toilet/shower block as we speak and Robin advised it should be ready in October.

Price was right, they also supply Fire Pits if you want at £5 charge per day with a bag of logs.

If you plan on people visiting you during your stay I would warn them there is a £2 per person charge on arrival.

If there is a downfall, the road into the site is tricky, lots of pot holes and very narrow, certainly wouldn't like to reverse with caravan on. But everyone manages.

We live in Holland and in summer we like to go camping in England.

This spring we searched the internet for a nice campsite, we found

Leekworth Campsite in Middleton-in-Teesdale, county Durham.

It looked very promising. In real it was even better.

Campsite is nice and clean, friendly helpful owner, thanks Robin!

Good size pitches, also pitches beside the river, with or without watertap/electricity.

Campsite surrounded by beautiful nature, flower meadows, birds and cattle. The village Middleton on walking distance for shopping and/or dining. What elso do you need?

We planned 3 nights with our tent, but stayed 11 nights, this says more than words.

Many things to see or to do like fishing, great walks or waterfalls to see (Low force and High force).

In nearby village Eggleston I did a Workshop painting, by artist Anne Mason at her studio. I loved her lessons and enjoyed her hospitality. Lessons also for beginners in all kind of materials. Find her work and more details at www. Annmasonart. Co. Uk.

For us many reasons to come back to Leekworth Campsite, hopefully next year see all those nice people again.

Great site with friendly owner who is on hand to ensure all is well. Facilities are basic but spotless (new shower block on the way)The EHU each have a water tap nearby which is a nice touch.

The site is developing and Robin working hard to improve the site further. Kids will have to make their own entertainment (which they do)

Middleton is a 10 min walk away and has a few shops and pubs. If you need to chill out for a while at a well run site you cannot go wrong.

Very nice quiet site with plenty of room for our large tent. Kids loved paddling in the river and plenty of walks to do with the dog.

The village is within walking distance (a nice walk along the river)with plenty of cafe's, shops, a very nice fish shop (closes at 8 30pm at weekends) and a good sized co-op

Toilets clean but basic, only 1 toilet for women 2/3 for men with no showers but I gather they are in the pipeline so at the moment good for weekend's but I don't think I could come for longer than that until the showers are built

We've just returned from a 1 night stay at this campsite & it was fantastic.

The site has a couple of fields to stay in and the although the top field is more private it is further away from the toilet block.

The toilet block as well is basic but it was immaculate and the owner keeps a close eye on it as he does with the rest of the site. He visited it on regular intervals during the day & night and was very approachable. He also told us about the plans for the new shower, laundry & kitchen block he is starting later on this year.

It was about a 15 min walk into town and there are some lovely cafes, pubs & shops. The return walk was along the riverbank which brings you out at the campsite.

The only thing stopping us from giving it 10/10 is the lack of shower facilities so we would only stay for a couple of days and not a week. But as you can see from above this will change this year.

Overall a very friendly site which is in a perfect location. Well worth a visit.

We spent five days on this wonderful site with stunning views of Teesdale.

The facilities are Basic clean and tidy, Robin was expecting the planning permission for the Shower Block to arrive this week, and said he will start on it as soon as! we managed fine without the showers though.

The site was spacious and serene, surrounded by fabulous wild flower meadows on two sides and the river Tee wrapped around the other sides.

The narrow lane to the site is an easy drive, and walking into town along the banks of the Tee is a 20 minute delightful walk, Other reviews have already accurately described the facilities of the town,

We enjoyed sitting in our tent porch watching hundreds of Martins swooping around feeding in the early morning sun, and listening to the Owls hooting as they passed overhead at night,

If you are a rambler, a dog walker, Fisherman or Kayaker, then this is an ideal site for you

Special mention to Robins Nan who drove around collecting the fees, delivering bags of logs (well dried and £3. 00 bargain) and checking we were all happy. She is a interesting and funny lady, ask her about her HGV licence.
