Booked last minute for an overnight stay at Leekworth.
The site has a brand new facilities block and the owners have made an excellent job of it - they are modern and spotless. Electric hook ups are available and some pitches are hard standing.
The location of the site is excellent - it takes about 15 minutes to walk into Middleton where there is a Co-op, pubs and take-aways. Cafe 1618 is a great spot for a meal and beer.
Bowlees, High Force and Barnard Castle are all worth a visit. Great walking on the Teesdale Way right from the site.

Just returned from a fantastic weekend (four nights in the end!) at Leekworth. Lovely site, excellent location within walking distance of Middleton-in-Teesdale. Robin is passionate about his site and this shows through in the attention to detail he gives to the appearance and facilities that he offers. This is a 'hidden gem' that you want to tell everyone about but also a part of you wants to keep it all to yourself!
There are good pubs and eating opportunities in Middleton-in-Teesdale which is a short walk from the campsite; either using the river path or the slightly shorter access lane.
Although there is not (yet) a children's playground the site is adjacent to the river Tees and there is an excellent area that is accessed through a gate at the side of the site. Our nine your old daughter spent hours playing in the water and finding fossils etc.
The toilet / shower block is very new and excellent in both facilities and cleanliness. Further pot washing facilities are in the offing.
High Force, Low Force (take a picnic!) and Bowlees are within 10 - 15 minutes drive and are excellent to visit.
We shall definitely be returning here. Keep up the excellent work at the site. See you soon!

We were advised to phone ahead with ETA so that we were sure that no-one was leaving. The lane is narrow and whilst it’s fine to drive down, you wouldn’t want to meet another caravan.
Facilities perfect and spotlessly clean and generously sized with plenty of space to shower adult and 2 kids. My only criticism was that the showers could do with a seat and/ or shelves to put your shampoo/soap and clothes on.
Our 7 and 4 yr old loved the site and had space to play on their bikes. I just wish we could have gone in the river (it was a bit cold for us – but would be fantastic with a bit of sun) incidentally this is well fenced off, so safe for the kids. Their review is a bit shorter than mine – their favourite bit was throwing big stones into the river!
We wandered into the village a few times, but sadly didn’t find a pub. The hardware shop was amazing and the chippy seemed popular. Co-op was good … having their usual fare.
We did try to go to Raby castle – but found it’s closed on a Saturday…. Go figure! we sat outside for 5 minutes and watched a convoy of people suffering the same surprise! Ended up in Barnard Castle which provided a choice of butchers, bakers and tea shops.
Also spent a day at Beamish (we had tickets still valid from last year, so a cheap day out this time) and perfect for the kids and grown-ups.
A great site – the owner made us feel welcome and always had time for a chat. We will return to in the future.

This was a gem of a site, very quiet and peaceful with larger than average pitches for motor homes, and level pitches, the toilets and showers were immaculate, and a pleasure to visit, you could walk along the riverside to Middleton in Teesdale, about 10-15 mins, or walk by road, which was very pleasant, the host Robin was friendly and welcoming.
On arriving in Middleton in Teesdale, there were plenty of friendly pubs and cafes and places to sit out and have coffee. Would visit again.

First time camping as a family - had a great time - lovely site. The river was a big hit - lots of hours spent throwing stones etc
New toilets and shower block - immaculate and nice and hot water
Play area nearby in the village
Good food at the hotel in the village
Co op shop nearby in the village which is small but has the basics and is reasonably priced.
Enjoyed it so much went back the next weekend.
Friendly atmosphere.
Fire pits are a must.
Only improvement we would suggest would be providing a freezer pack facility but managed without and certainly would not stop us going back or recommending to others.

This was our first visit to this site, for us and our 12yr old grandaughter. Booking was easy and a warm welcome on arrival. A quiet picturesque and peaceful site next to the river Tees.
Immaculate showers, toilets and washing up facilities, which were a pleasure to use.
The site was safe for children.
A short pleasant walk into Middleton by the road or the riverside path. A good selection of shops and pubs, fantastic butchers and chippy.
Stunning scenery, a walkers paradise.
Recomend hiring a fire-pit, makes it feel really cosy.
We will definitely be returning.

This was our first visit to this campsite and I have to say we will definitely return. The staff were friendly and helpful, the facilities were excellent - brand new, beautifully clean with lovely hot showers. It was just a short walk from the centre of Middleton with lots of restaurants, cafes, shops and pubs. The only small criticism would be the access road which is very narrow and peppered with potholes but a beautiful place which we will certainly return to!

Just got back from Leekworth after having a brilliant time. We were extremely lucky with the weather, it remained fairly bright and sunny and just had one night of rain and the odd shower. The rain that we did have made High and Low Force well worth a visit. You could hear the falls before you actually got to them. The site is lovely and spacious with all round good views. Robin is a very friendly and entertaining chap with lots of stories to tell. The toilets and showers are immaculate as is the washing up area. Plenty of hot water and showers where you don't actually get your clothes wet!
The local Co-op is fairly well stocked and there is plenty to see and do in the surrounding areas. We will definitely be going back again.

Well what can I say - we(Me, Hubby and 17yr old son) arrived on the hottest day so far 7/7 and it just got hotter. Robin(the owner) said if we got 8 days like this we would be lucky- we ended up with 14!. The site is the quietest we have ever stayed on, even at the weekend which gets busy. The toilets and showers are very clean and have plenty of space - no trying to keep clothes dry whilst you shower the hooks are well away from the shower. You can use your hairdryers / straighteners if you wish Free of charge. You can hire wood burners and wood which we recommend due to the midges - although due to the sudden hot weather we were probably more troubled than usual. The owner and his family (his Gran and Mum help) are extremely friendly and nothing is too much trouble. The village has everything you need and is a 20min walk away, or a few minutes drive, with a butcher - fab meat, PO, good hardware store, newsagents and co-op + other gift shops and pubs. We had a meal at the 16-18 cafe which is a cafe during the day and a pub at night the meal was excellent and the company lovely. Most people on the site only stayed a few days not 2 weeks like we did but there is much to explore within a driving distance and many walks around I would fully recommend a week or more here as it is lovely place to relax and the river Tees runs by the site and it is a great place to dabble your feet and watch the dippers. Low and High Force waterfalls can be walked to from the site as can many other lovely walks and the Pennine Way passes close so it is great for walkers. Would we go again - definitely, I cannot recommend this site enough.
