Very nice site with great view and pleasant staff
A bit expensive at £24 a night incl a couple of kids (and it was (mid week). Kids enjoyed the play park
They recommended the manor inn for food which unfortunately was a disaster as the food was very poor especially as it cost £60 for four meals which were mainly all chips and a bit of salad.
We were originally sat outside but it got a bit chilly so we went into the bar 7pm only to told they don't allow kids. So after spending all this money we were then basically thrown out. This touring park should really be careful who they recommend. We were going to stay for 5days but after this unbelievable experience we moved on to a new site.

We booked at this site for just over a week. On arrival the staff were friendly and showed us our pitch. We were extremely disappointed to find that we were given a pitch on a slope. We asked to be moved but were told that as we had booked for a week they did not have a spare space for a whole week. Unfortunately, due to the slope we had to pitch our trailer tent sideways on which meant that we could not fit our sun canopy on.
Incidentally, we did find that the pitches were closer together than other sites we have stayed on. In the brochure we received it stated that 'many' of the pitches were level. From our own experience and walking round the campsite we observed that many of the tent and caravan pitches were on a slope. My husband spoke to a caravan owner who also had to use blocks (like we did) to level things up for pitching.
Regarding other facilities, I would agree with other reviewers that the toilet/shower block does seem a bit dated but it was cleaned regularly and wasn't a problem for us. There were queues for the showers first thing in the morning but I took my shower later so did not have this problem. The brochure we received stated that they provide an 'Under 5's bathroom'. It did not state that it costs £2. 50 with a £10 refundable deposit. Ok, not a great deal of money but I felt that the cost should have been made a bit clearer.
The play areas are ok but generally, I would say, are for older children. Not that much for my two and five year old.
The shop is fine and sold small individual cereal packets which I found useful. The tourist shop is good for leaflets and information.
Nearest beach at Broadsands was pleasant but a bit stony. Loads of other things in the area but would especially recommend Babbacombe Model Village and the Steam Railway for all ages.
The nearest pub is within walking distance but be aware that it is down a steep hill with no path for a large part of it so you have to watch the traffic. However, once there the food was excellent. It might be worth booking a table as it was busy when we went (a Thursday night).
Lots of reviewers mention the view of the river from the site. It is very pretty, and the site is quiet, but because of the 'gripes' above we won't be returning.

Amazing location with spectacular views of the River Dart. Site slopes slightly but most tent pitches are level. We have visited 4 or 5 times over the last 10 years and have always found the facilities to be very good and the site well kept. Although the shower block is starting to look a bit dated.
Galmpton village has a good little pub for evening meals and a small shop plus an excellent little butchers.
As of 2011 the site appears to be under new ownership. They have already done some good work on brightening up the shower block and cutting back hedges etc.
They still seem to be finding their feet, the old pitch markings seem to be ignored meaning it's not very clear where you should be pitching and tents end up quite close despite being plenty of space in the rest of the site. Previous owners where very efficient at making sure everyone had enough space around them.
You no longer get shown to you pitch as they seem to have done away with on site wardens. This is also a problem in the evening as no one seems to do a late evening round to ensure TV/music noise is kept to a minimum. Quite a few campers around making noise until gone midnight when we stayed.

Drove onto the site and was greeted by the most wonderful site as the river Dart estuary opened up in front of us. We were pitched on an economy pitch, only because we didn't need an electric hook-up, but the view was anything other than economy!
I cannot praise this site enough for the facilities. Plenty of toilets, washing areas and free showers (push button type). The pitch itself was level and probably better than the other pitches on the main field as some of these looked a little sloping.
The toilets are in one block and are very clean and well kept. The ladies area even had a free hairdryer, which is always useful! We only stayed for the weekend so didn't have the need to use the laundrette or ironing board, but this facility has also been provided if you need to wash or iron your clothes.
The pub up the road in Galmpton village is a 15 minute leisurely stroll away and is very friendly and welcoming.
There are plenty of walks nearby, but do not drive down to Greenway Quay to catch the ferry over to Dittisham unless you don't mind getting your car blocked in! It is also not easy to get out of again as you have to turn around in a tight space.
The site is perfectly situated for visiting the Torbay area and if you love steam trains (as we do!) you will be thrilled to hear the Dartmouth Steam train blowing its whistle as it chuffs by on its way to Paignton and Kingwear.

I was on a three night stop watching birds in the area so I did not spend too much time on the site. But it is a cracking site. Very well kept, with nicely cut grass. The central block included toilets, showers (of which there were plenty), laundry room and a washing up room.
There is a children's playground with boats and climbing frames etc. The views from the site are superb, over the Dart valley, and so relaxing. I paid £12 a night for my little 2-man tent which I thought was a shade high for mid-may, but this could be typical Devon prices.
Galmpton has two pubs and a clutch of shops which I tried to support by buying my daily foods from. The pubs, the Manor Inn in the village centre is listed in CAMRA's Good Beer Guide and serves good ale and food.
The Weary Ploughman just outside the village towards Kingswear, is a very nice dining pub with smart decor and furnishings and comfortable suroundings - but at a price. £3.60 for a pint of ale.
This site is a good base for exploring South Devon. My birdwatching trips took me to Yarner Wood, Dartmoor, Slapton Ley and Berry Head.
There was even a Cirl Bunting singing from the trees on the campsite.

We stayed here for Half Term week, 2 Adults & 2 children and found this site to be a little treasure and the new owners very helpful. The views are wonderful and although some of the pitches are sloping there are plenty of brick slabs dotted about to help with levelling. It's worth it for the view!
The toilet & shower facilities are a little dated compared to CC updated facilities but kept lovely and clean with plenty of hot water, we never queued once to use any of the facilities and the site was very busy!
The play area for the kids is great with lots of things to climb on, slide down and hide in, as well as an area for ball games.
The kids loved crab fishing in Brixham and Stoke Gabriel.Great fun for all ages!
We will definitely be going back.

I spent an excellent Easter at this site. It's main appeal is its location - with a fantastic view along the river Dart.
The pitches are well sorted. Plenty of well placed water supplies, electric hook ups and drains. Mine was the perfect pitch, with a little triangular 'garden' protected by a hedge on 2 sides and nobody overlooking.
I could lie in my campervan bed and watch the lights of the boats at their moorings. And the woodland walks of nearby Greenway are a treat. The beautiful, but busy in summer, port of Dartmouth is a ferry or steam train ride away - about than 30 mins in either case.
It ticked all my boxes: Friendly staff, very well sorted pitches, well maintained, and a pub 10 minutes walk away. For kids there's a fun-looking playground. The loo block and showers were fine

As this was our first camping outing as a family we were just staying the night to ensure we had the hang of it. With a new tent and 2 little people under the age of 5 it was a little stressful but we survived in this fabulous place. The views over the river are amazing and we were lucky enough to have a pitch on the edge of the site overlooking the Estuary.
The site was very well kept. The hedgerows were under control and the grass was being mowed as we arrived. There is a great play park for little people, although watch out for the slide as it really heats up in the sun and gets quite hot!
The pitch was big enough, although to the uninitiated we had to work out what was the best combination of car/tent parking and pitching to get the best of the views and the slightly sloping ground. We had a bit of trouble getting the pegs in as under the first couple of inches of ground there are lots of stones.
The toilets and showers were a bit of a trek for us but no real complaints. They were clean but not terribly well lit. Best for us was the under 5's bathroom which was great, a little pricey at an extra £2.50 plus a £10 key deposit but worth it. Washing up area was good, hot water and well lit.
There is a little shop which our littlies appreciated as it stocked ice cream but definitely only the real essentials. There is a Sainsbury's not far away but be prepared for traffic.
All in all a good site and we would consider going again.

Just had a fantastic week at this campsite.
The views over the River Dart are spectacular. The site is well maintained, spacious, with plenty of facilities, which were also clean and well maintained.
The area has loads to do, great walks from the campsite and great beaches. Dartmouth, which is well worth a visit is within a couple of hours walk from the campsite through lovely woods along the River Dart, and there is a ferry or the steam train to get you back.
We will definitely be back.

We spent ten days at this site at the beginning of April this year. Nice, peaceful site on edge of village within walking distance of train station with excellent access to places of interest. We did think some members of the Reception staff were a big 'vague' in the welcoming department but hey ho it was the beginning of the season and perhaps they felt a bit stressed ?
We chose a fully serviced pitch and these were all on terraces and all with magical views toward the River Dart. The pitch was a good size and with regulatory distance between each.
We had one very big gripe - the toilet block ! Old, cold and very dated. It was like something left over from the sixties and there were lots of little things like black pen used on the door to the baby changing room indicating it's use and which, incidentally didn't look particularly inviting.
Painted brick walls which always seemed to be running with water. Some loo cubicle doors appeared not to have locks ! and although the sign above the basins advised about the very hot water, I never actually got anything other than stone cold! Hated the idea of looking up but just had to - wish I hadn't as there was more life above me than on the site ! lots of cobwebs and other stuff.
The whole place needed a jolly good clean and frankly, it disgusted me and I dreaded the thought of having to visit it at night, it was so dingy. I can't imagine what this shower / loo block would be like in the height of the season ! I've no doubt that cleaning takes place every day but it just isn't good enough, it fell very short of acceptable.
Also, the position of the block is very inconvenient.
The block is sited on the very edge of the site and consequently, it's ok for those pitches closeby but the rest of the site necessitates a very decent walk. Could do with demolishing and re-building and perhaps a second one more central to the site.
Although this site has a very lovely situation, sorry to say don't think we shall re-visit until loo block is replaced or at least drastically improved and with a far higher standard of maintenance.
