PROS. The views of the Dart estuary from virtually all the pitches are splendid. The site is well laid out and carefully maintained, and the wardens are very helpful. The location is good for walking to Greenway, catching the ferry to Dittisham or Dartmouth, or the train from either Galmpton village station or having it stop 'to order' for you by walking across the fields to Greenway Halt. A very quiet site both during the day and especially at night.
CONS. The aspect of the site made it very windy when we were there, with a permanent stiff breeze (rising to strong enough to blow our canopy away twice during our stay!) blowing up the valley from the estuary. Not the campsite's fault, of course, but I wonder whether this is a permanent feature of the site? The toilet block is perfectly clean, but outdated and not up to the standards of the rest of the site, or that the site implies on its website. Improvement / refurbishment of these facilities would make the site even more appealing. There is a shop in the village, just a short walk away, but for convenience the site shop could be better stocked. We paid £7. 50 for WiFi that never worked on our pitch (though it was supposed to), only in the site office. In fairness the site refunded our money, but this service was a factor in choosing the site as I needed to work while we were there, so the fact that it didn't was a disappointment and an inconvenience.

Management response: Many thanks for your review, we are glad you enjoyed your stay but are sorry to hear about the issues you experienced. Thank you for your comments on our loo block, the building has actually had a full refurbishment in the Winter of 2015. We have had new flooring laid, new loos, new shower heads, central heating installed throughout, new toilet and hand dispensers and many more elements added to improve the building that is there. We are aware that the existing building looks dated, however sadly we are unable to knock it down and start again due to our strict planning regulations in the area. It is for this reason that we have refurbed the inside since owning the park.
I believe when you stayed we were experiencing an extreme weather front across the whole country which was unfortunate & unusual for this time of year. We are sorry if this caused difficulties during your stay. An external company have installed Wifi across the park for us called Club Wifi. The signal is excellent across the park & we do ask that if customers have any problems that they let us know immediately so that we can contact the company who are very quick to respond and fix any issues. This was part of the reason for us choosing a local company for installation, so that they can resolve any issues quickly. We are sorry you did not find this satisfactory for your stay. |

My wife and I along with our daughter stayed at the Sail Loft house with our friends and their daughter. The location is perfect, within easy distance to several places such as Torquay, Dartmouth and Dittisham. There are many things to do close by such as the steam railway and ferry access. The site is clean and great for families, with a nice park and easy access to dog walks. The staff on site are really friendly and are happy to offer advice on how to plan your day. The facilities in the house overall were good. The only criticism would be a lack of kitchen/cleaning equipment, such as a microwave, mop bucket, vacuum cleaner and ironing board with iron. Also, due to renting holiday properties in the past, we have always had a nice welcome pack such as milk, chocolates and wine.
|
Management response: Many thanks for your review. It is always helpful when customers give us feedback. Because of your useful comments we have now added additional cleaning equipment to the Sail Loft. We do actually have a microwave for use for the Sail Loft, we just ask for customers to let us know if they require it for their stay as it limits the kitchen surface space if customers do not wish for it. We are sorry if you were not informed this on your arrival. We really like your recommendation for a welcome pack. We have always supplied some coffee, tea and milk sachets but think this is a great idea for future guests so thank you for the tip. We are glad you enjoyed your stay and the area & thank you again for the feedback. |

The views where amazing & the site has all you need, only thing is it was VERY expensive! We stayed for one nights, 2 adults 1 three year old & small dog in a campervan with ehu £27!
Stayed on a site near exmouth 4 days before for only £14 night for the same facilities!
This is a good site if you're willing to pay that much.
|
Management response: Many thanks for your review. We are pleased to hear you like the site. Our tariffs are extremely competitive for the area & we also did not increased our tariffs for 2015, so are sorry to hear that you thought us expensive, but hope you feel that the park was value for money. |

The views from this site are the best we have every had after many years of camping. Access to the site is no problem and all of the wardens were extremely helpful and friendly throughout our 5 night stay.
The site is very hilly and it is a difficult site for anyone with mobility problems with the disabled facilities being at the very top of the site with an additional fairly steep slope to reach them, my hubby who is a very mobile and strong wheelchair user did need assistance to reach the facilities.
The toilet block itself is adequate, however it is very dated and needs updating and modernising. The showers were warm enough, but not hot. The pressure for the washbasin sinks was very non existent and I appreciate that we were staying at the end of the season, however only one of the 2 washing machines was working and the only tumble dryer was out of order during our visit.
We would stay at this site again - the views are outstanding and the site is peaceful with a good location and having brilliant walks all round.

The location, facilities & staff were fantastic! We had planned to move sites after our 1st wk on holiday but after having a week on one of the super sites we decided to stay put for our 2nd week because there was absolutely no hassle. The views of the estuary are beautiful & are only a short walk if you want a closer look. Supermarkets are only a short drive away, as are local harbours if you want to have a more nautical experience. We are already planning to return with more of our family next year. We have had a really great holiday. It is the best site we have ever stayed on.

This is a beautiful site over looking the River Dart, with outstanding views and sunsets, The electric pitch was spacious but can be on a slope, There was only one toilet block, which is no problem but the ladies positioned at the rear, (like a lot of sites which can be very un-nerving in the dark nights especially when the automated lights take a few seconds to come on) this was exceptionally clean although very dated and even though some of the taps I tried didn't work the one's that did and the shower was just the right heat, one dated not powerful hairdryer, but all in all ok, good washing pot room with washing machine, dryer and iron/board and games, books and local information to use,
Don't often go back to the same place twice but I think there was more to the local area, then we first thought, so we may just do and the new owner/wardens (exceptionally friendly and welcoming) are trying very hard to improve as they go, Good children's playground and very dog friendly with bins provided
Beer at the local pub very good but a little expensive on the food if you want to eat out regularly, 15 min walk to the main road to catch the local bus service but with quite a steep walk back up to the site. The round robin (Train-boat-bus)is a must

Beautiful site, toilets, showers etc really clean, plentiful water for showers. The views are spectacular. We visited when school holidays were over so quiet, that is except for the sheep in the field next to us, didn't know sheep coughed! I thought it was an old man who smoked too much, so lots of laughs, but poor sheep! They did keep us awake the first night, but loved the time we stayed there. Would visit again. Also visited local pub, very nice, the site is central to all areas of interest.

Just been dragged kicking and screaming to go camping in our recently purchased vw camper.
Fantastic site great views and a lovely walk to greenway quay.
I would recommend this site to anybody, you will not be disappointed
We only stayed 1 night but we will be going again.
See my trip adviser comment for the local pub - The Manor Inn. EAT THERE AT YOUR OWN RISK.

We found the site to have wonderfull views of the river dart, with a beutifull sun set, but I'm afraid for my wife and I that was were it ends.
The site for us seemed to be very hilly in both directions. With the van close to the roads on site.
There is only on set of toilet and shower block & washup rooms. This was a bit of a walk for us from where we were.
The toilet block is clean but I feel a bit dated for the size of the site. The water in the showers was only warm not hot and there is no control over the tempreture!.
Sorry galmpton we will not be returning to visit you.
But if you like a great view then this is the site to visit.

What a view!
This campsite has got to have the best view of any site I've ever stayed at! We spent a great deal of time photographing the view over the River Dart and irritating our friends on Facebook by posting them daily!
The staff were fabulous friendly and welcoming and there is a barrier across the entrance for security (not that it really needs it)!
We were situated on a terrace for our 2 week stay, there was plenty of room between pitches and we didn't feel at all crowded. The grass was a bit sparse next to the hard standing but it had been exceptionally warm and it didn't really bother us.
There is a brilliant children's play area with swings, slides climbing stuff and some grass for ball games away from the caravans. This shut at 9pm and it was never a problem with noise etc in fact it was a godsend for keeping the kids occupied between day trips.
The facilities have seen better days but we understand that they are a work in progress and as they were kept clean and tidy and there was plenty of hot water there certainly nothing to complain about.
There is a pub within walking distance from the site that does food and we had a couple of really enjoyable nights out there, before walking home through the village. You can also walk to Agatha Christies house (which is a Natiional Trust property) from the campsite and while you're in that neck of the woods get the boat over the river to Dittisham and have lunch in The Anchor Stone Cafe which is amazing. The crab salad was to die for!
There were so many things to do that we struggled to fit everything in! There are lovely beaches, Dartmouth and National Trust properties to keep you occupied, or you could just chill in front of that view. !
