Our first time camping for 25 years! Now retired we bought a family tent to venture out into the country side for walking and cycling. We saw this site on the website and thought the views cannot be as good as this. How wrong we were, it was a beautiful site with far reaching views looking up the Dart valley. The directions provided were excellent, don't follow your sat nav it will take you down a steep narrow road, we know we walked up it the following day to the bus stop.

Booking was easy and the staff at reception were very friendly and helpful. A warden followed us down to our pitch to show us everything and offered help if we needed it. He also told us that a Pizza Van would be on site between 5pm and 8pm tonight and every Wednesday.

Our pitch was spacious, on a slight slope, and had an electrical hookup point. It was a short walk to the water tap and the shower block. The shower block is very clean with lots of shower cubicles, toilets and washbasins. The water was always hot an I never had to wait for a shower. Sinks are provided in the block for dish and clothes washing, washing machines and tumble dryers. Chemical disposal and rubbish disposal are also in this area.

There is a large children's play area and everybody was having fun. All our neighbours were friendly and had enjoyed staying on the site. Once the sun goes down the site is quiet and we watched the moon over the river and stars in the sky, what an amazing place.

It is a 20 minute walk up to Galmpton Common and the main road to Paignton. The number 12 bus stops here. There is a Steam Railway from Paignton to Kingswear the ticket price includes the passenger ferry to Dartmouth.

We had two lovely sunny days here but unfortunately we woke up to rain on the day of leaving.

We will definitely be back again before summer ends, a site with amazing views of the river and hills beyond set in a great place for exploring the local towns, walking or just relaxing in the quiet summers air.

All the staff were very friendly and helpful

Wow what a site, the views are amazing and I would think that all pitches have a good view. We were in front of the children's play area which was great, plenty of room to play for all ages and some distance away from the vans. Tents, caravans and motorhomes all mixed up together in a very relaxed fashion. The pitch was hardstanding but not level and our levelling ramps were not sufficient to correct it. We were offered more ramps from the wardens and he did try and find us another site but we decided to stay where we were. We had a problem with our water pump whilst on site and the wardens and reception could not have been more helpful. The shop had most basic requirements and the village shop is within walking distance although whenever you go out of the site you are faced with hills. The toilet block could do with updating but all very functional and clean.

The surrounding area is amazing, with steam trains, vintage bus and the usual transport services all very handy and plenty walking from the site. The National Trust's Greenway House is well worth a visit and again in walking distance. We cannot wait to return.

Nice quiet site fantastic views only problem is the 8:00 barrier to stop. Vans for coming in They say it to stop traveler from coming in but not very good if you have a tall van like mine if you happen to get cough out after 8 then the gate will be open again at 8 in the morning it should have been an electric arm with coding that way no lockout Shame was a nice site been coming here for last 15years

Not a bad site if you're rig is under 2. 2 meters high
Management response: ’Many thanks for your review. We do have a height barrier, like many other parks, set at 2.1 Meters which closes at 8pm until 8am purely for the security of our guests. We do advise customers of this before they book. We also tell customers when they arrive, as well as it being written on customers confirmation letters, in our information packs, and on our tags. We do consider this to be enough warning to anybody that it may cause a problem to. We are extremely lucky to have a wide range of public transport very close to the park, which we find our customers tend to use. We have a bus stop, steam train station and ferry service which will take you to Brixham, Kingswear, Dartmouth, Totness, Paignton, Torquay etc. We are sorry that you felt disappointed by this, however we and most of our customers, feel that it is an improvement to the parks security. With Best Wishes Galmpton Touring Park

Our family (Us, 8, 6 & 2) came here for summer half term week. It was really busy for the bank holiday weekend but then quiet for the rest of the week. Strangely there were not many families on site during our time here but many cyclists (pot luck I think).

Site: We were on the very sloping and hilly lower field right in the middle of it to be close to the toilet block (for children's night wee's where you do not get much notice). We were told it was a 5-7 min walk. It was a 2 min for us. It was however very windy and we could not put up our side porch and the windbreak would not stay up. It was frightening how windy it was for the first few days but our tent a Vango Tigris 800XL was fine. By the 3rd day we decided with less wind to put up the porch. It was fine from then on. We bought the WiFi which he used. They hire out ice blocks but we decide to buy ice from the supermarket as it works out cheaper.

Staff / shop: The staff were friendly but did not seem to have any experience or feedback from family attractions locally. They did ring some for us to answer questions we had. We had a broken tent pole and they googled tent shops for us (but I would have expected them to have had a master list - they are a campsite, although they did have a card for a caravan repairer). The shop had milk, ice cream pots (yummy), pre-packed croissants, toothpaste and few other basics.

Toilet Block: This is at the top of the hill and is not suitable for those with mobility problems. Divided into Pot wash and laundry at first end, then mens, disabled and finally ladies.

Mens is a mirror image to the ladies (so I am told). The ladies is old and basic (needs a refit) but always clean and masses of toilets (about 12) with loads of tissue. About 5 or 6 showers which have stools, hooks and thin shower curtains. Then about 10 maybe more basins. There are 2 hand dryers and a hair dryer. There is not, however a full length mirror (yes I don't always want to see myself!) Saw a baby bath in a cubicle too.

Playpark: A wooden structure of a pirate ship. Suitable from about age 4 upwards. There was also a solid table tennis table in the play area.

Steam trains: You can see the steam of the trains and hear the whistle from the site. We did go on the train. The ticket is for the whole day and is for the steam train, bus and passenger ferry. The site offer a 'free child' ticket which came in handy. The adult was about £14. As we bought our tickets at 3pm to use the train it was expensive but for a day out would have been good. We walked to one of the stations is a 15 minute walk. The same time we took the car ferry to and from Kingswear. It held about 5 cars and was flat. Just had a chain at the end. It was £1 (I think) the same price as the passenger ferry but much more fun.

Visits: We went to Torbay Leisure Centre. It had one slide (best to use it when the wave machine is on as there is less of a queue). It was heaving and the changing rooms were humid like a sauna and we were packed like sardines in the general area – no chance of a changing cubicle. Don't go on a chilly or wet day in school holidays!

We went crabbing to Brixham harbour and caught 4 in 4 hours and Stoke Gabriel we caught over 200 in half an hour.

We also went to the beach at Broadsands (Pay& Display car park) (and at our picnic in the car in the rain and still bought some local yummy ice cream from the shop) and also walked the coastal path to Elberry cove (stones). Local viaduct by someone famous and you can see and hear the steam train go by.

Then we tried Man Sands (picked by name from the map in the potwash). It is a ¾ mile walk downhill to the beach from a National Trust car park. The McLaren pushchair did not make it via the cobbled path so I had to remove the 2 year old & pull the pushchair.

Brixham beach play park is wooden, huge and excellent. It is right at the back of the beach (which we did not visit). The park is suited to all including teenagers.

Shops: Sainsburys, Morrisons and ASDA are all close by car. Pizza Van visits the site, yummy pizzas.

The views were fanstastic, the area is lovely and for this reason we may return.

This is a lovely clean dog friendly site that has some fantastic views of the river Dart. The reception staff are friendly, as are the wardens who take you to your pitch. The site has a very small shop selling the basics, but the village, which is about a 10/15 walk away has a pub that serves meals (dog friendly), a shop, which is also a post office and sells just about everything and is convenient for cash withdrawals plus a small butchers.

We were on a full service pitch but I did look at the showers and toilets which looked very clean. There is a laundry with a couple of washing machines and driers. The toilet block is up a slope, which could be a challenge for the less mobile. The site is sloping but most pitches appear to be level, the sloping is made clear on their website and brochure.

There is a children's playground with lots of climbing stuff, and they had a badminton net set up, so take your rackets.

As mentioned this is a dog friendly site, and has a dog walk with a bin, its not very big - but perfectly adequate for early morning and late night wee's! (take a torch)

10 Minutes away by car there is a large Sainsburys, with a petrol station and a McDonalds. McDonalds is OK for free wi-fi (when it works) Wi-Fi is available on the camp site for a charge.

We found the TV and mobile phone reception good on site.

It was quiet when we were there at the start of the season, and I imagine it will get very busy during the summer, I just hope they enforce their 'quiet after 11. 00pm' rule.

Just one tip, as you come through Galmpton village and go up the hill, take it slowly as the site entrance is on the right. If you are towing and you go past it can be a problem turning round.

We have normally stayed on C&C sites in the past as we like the quiet rule which is strictly enforced. Some sites have rules but don't bother to enforce them.

We returned for the 2nd time to this site in a stunning location. The view across the River Dart and over the fields is beautiful. The shower block still needs updating as it is rather old but clean. We received a warm welcome from reception and the site warden. We walked to Greenways which is a must this time of year as the gardens are stunning as are the gardens at Coleton Fishacre, also worth a visit. We also walked to Brixham stopping off at Churston Ferrers for drinks in the 13th century Churston Court. The walk took us through some lovely countryside including Marridge Woods. The Manor Inn in Galmpton village is a must. Friendly atmosphere and great food. We enjoyed a lovely few days with glorious weather.

Our first visit here. This site has stunning views across the River Dart and surrounding countryside. Staff were friendly and informative. The toilet/shower block is in need of being updated but the washing up area we found was very good. The Manor Inn in the village is well worth visiting with an excellent menu and friendly staff. We visited Greenway House, the summer residence of Agatha Christie. This is a must with lovely views across the Dart. Also got the foot ferry to Dittisham where we had lunch in The Ferry Boat Inn. I can highly recommend the pate with brandy. Absolutely wonderful as were the views. Will definitely return.

 Fabulous.

What a truly fantastic find. Really, believe me. The website lives up to the content too.

Pre booking - fast, efficient, friendly. My various questions answered at length.

Arrived to warm and informative welcome and warden coming over to ensure we had parked up and settled.

Spacious site, every pitch views towards the River Dart and Devon's rolling hills - which is utterly stunning view and can be easily viewed from all areas of the site.

Spotted very large and sturdy children's playground with lots of 'things' for them to climb about on.

Excellent dog walking area.

Well kept spacious pitches. Short walk to shower block and small shop at reception. Loads of usual facilities dotted about i. E. Taps, rubbish etc. Pleased to see a recycling area near reception too.

Short walk into town with good pubs that serve food.

We liked the fact that we could walk to lots of different places and activities. The famous Agatha Chrisie house Greenways is nearby, the ferry to Dittisham, catch the steam train (15 mins walk) to Paignton or over to fabulous Dartmouth.

Dogs welcome and clearly children too on the site and the steam train and the river boat cruises.

Had a chat to the charming owners who told us that having recently taken over the site there are plans afoot to invest and update the shower block. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it as it is, it was clean, spacious and functional (with incredible views of the river!) but I can see they they may wish to modernise. And I can tell from speaking to them, that when improvements are made they will be of the highest standards. (See the holiday flats they are doing up at the moment!)

What a super site, what a warm welcome, what a stunning location, we stayed 3 nights and regretted having already booked elsewhere for the rest of the week.

We will be back - and rather took a shine to the holiday flats which were being refurbished whilst we were there. Again, the views, the views, the views.

A truly family friendly and dog friendly site in an incredible setting.

This site is a must if you like sitting down and watching outstanding sunsets over the River Dart.

Very pleasant staff on this site and well maintained.

It is up a hill from the village but if you stay here you must try the butchers next to the galleon stores (which is a well stocked post office and grocers), their meat is to die for. Their sirloin steaks were melt in the mouth. The people are very friendly in the village which has a pub which serves good beers.

Down below you is a wonderful scene of moored boats, pleasure boats and if you take the time to walk down the road(unsuitable for motors)is the very sad sight of a world war two Fairmile motor boat. (Oh to win the lottery and restore it !). You can see it over the fence in the lower field.

There is a Thai/Indian takeaway in Brixham delivers to site, really nice food(Menus in information block).

This site is definitely worth a visit.

Stayed 2 nights at this beautiful site, which has fantastic views across the river Dart. I would advise campervan to take chocks as although the hard pitches look level, they aren't (and if you have a vw like us your fridge won't work!) Lovely greeting and we were shown to our pitch. Whilst the pitches were separate and defined, they felt close together and it would have been difficult to put up a large awning. Some of the grass pitches looked a little muddled. My only real complaint was the distance to the loos -we don't have facilities in our van and it was quite a trek to the toilet block. I shouldn't moan though as I expect they would have moved us if we had asked! The toilet block was very clean (there was a large spider in the shower but hey I'm a country girl so not a problem!). It did look a little dated but for the price we paid it was very acceptable. We were a little disappointed that on our last night, some younger campers in a tent made enough noise to keep us awake - we aren't that old but are used to sites where noise after 11 is banned. But again we didn't complain so can't moan too much. All in all a beautiful site, good value for money with lots to do in the area. No doubt we will be back!
