My family and I visited Stowford last August and thoroughly enjoyed it. We are a family of four with 2 children aged 5 and 9 at the time, the kids had endless fun on the parks and playing around our tent. The children felt very safe as your a mile from the main road. Stowford has 5 fields and we stayed on field 3 which we found perfect for camping. The toilet blocks have ample toilets and showers and were always clean, although there is no heating in this block it didn't feel too cold. I do think that a a few plug sockets would have been handy so you can use your own hairdryers and straighteners.
The facilities here are really good, everything from a chippy to a restaurant. Kids loved the petorama and crazy golf and although we didn't use the pool it looked lovely and clean. We visited at the end of the main season so there wasn't any entertainment on of a night but it was nice to be able to sit in the bar and enjoy a quiet drink and use the sites wifi.
The surrounding area is beautiful, we particularly enjoyed visiting Woolacombe as it has a stunning beach and a lovely pub/restaurant called the Red Barn (the best burgers) well worth a visit.
We loved Stowford so much we have booked our next holiday there in July, can't wait!

Just returned from a very wet week at this site. Although the site is very large (900ish pitches) it was not at all busy, a large number of the caravans appeared to be seasonal and unoccupied. Although the majority of units on the site were caravans it did not have the feel of being anti tent in any way.
We were a group of 12 in three tents and were located at the top of field 4. The pitches were large and the drainage was excellent. At the end of the week, the last 5 days of almost non stop rain, even the most trod 'paths' in and around the tents were not particularly muddy.
As previously reported the chippy was very good, although often a long wait, the shop was well stocked and reasonably priced. The bar was good with a number of rooms. My daughter and others in our party enjoyed the reasonable priced horse riding and praised the helpful and friendly stable staff.
All attractions were within a reasonable distance, ie Beaches, pretty towns and villages and Exmoor.
All in all a site to which I would be happy to visit again.

Four of us stayed for two nights site was nice and well laid out. Facilities good, seemed to be used by caravanners more than campers. Had a good shop on site which was needed as it is quite a way to nearest town.
A few bars to choose from but entertainment wasn't my cup of tea.
Would use again but would probably try and get a site bit nearer to the sea.
Also had a golf course but it was just a field with eighteen holes in it, with eighteen flags stuck in them, no greens, no bunkers and set on a hill, not my idea of golf.

Have just returned from a weeks holiday at the site. It is a large site with 5 fields with amenities in each. Field 5 were we stayed seemed to have the newest block, the only downside with these showers is that they were just too hot. Apart from that it is a great site with bars that do food, a great fish and chip takeaway (which were fantastic) a restaurant - recommend the Sunday carvery. Great shop. Lovely Petorama which we enjoyed (better if you have little ones though) Central for Woolacombe, Ilfracombe, Lynton, Combe Martin etc. Great area for surfers. Great deals to be had at this site and we will go back. It does have many more caravanners than tents/campervans though.

We have just returned from a long weekend here (myself, husband and two children).
We were pitched in Field 4. Lovely big pitches and a mix of tents and caravans but the downside being that we, at the far end of the field, were right next to the caravan storage facility which meant that all day long there were caravans being towed to and from it (and at some speed unfortunately so couldn't really let the kids cycle around much).
We experienced terrible noise from some fellow tenters at 1.00 in the morning on the first night. After complaining at reception the next day they made sure the security car came past them fairly frequently on the second which ensured a more peaceful night.
This is a vast site! We're used to fairly small, tent friendly sites and this very much felt like a site for caravanners. I have nothing against caravanners but it was a different 'feel' to what we're used to. I think this is partly because lots of them are clearly pitched for the season but were actually not occupied when we were there so it felt busy, yet empty - with not many other young children around for ours to play with.
Site split up into five separate fields so perhaps it was different on others (Field 5 looked the most tent friendly but was very open so not sure what it would be like in the wind!).
Facilities great though. Showers and loos always clean and not too full.
Swimming pool big and lovely with very friendly staff.
Lovely big dog walking area with bins and bags provided (though some people clearly still didn't use them).
Petorama looked good - we went there for the Sunday night Ferret racing which was brilliant fun!
Fish and chip shop on site, food was good. Didn't try the resturant.
Well stocked shop.
Ten minutes to Combe Martin and not far from the fantastic Watermouth Castle.
Would we go back? Really not sure! Think it might just have been too chock full of caravans for us.

Have just returned from a weekend at Stowford Farm, and can say that I am reasonably happy.
We usually have a camping weekend with the people I work with every summer, we decided to try a new site for a change as we usually go to a site on the edge of Dartmoor.
The pitches were well maintained and generous in size,so no complaints here. Facilities, washing, showers bathrooms were very clean and well looked after. However, a number of our party upon going into reception were spoken to by the site manager saying that some people in our party / field were making too much noise, and we will be evicted if anyone breaks house rules on Saturday night.
I am with a hand full of families, many of which have young children, and most people turned in by 11 pm, so I think the owners are prone to over reacting, maybe if someone was talking slightly too loud then a polite quite word to them at the time should do the trick. I think we we'll probably try another site, as this might not be suited to larger groups.
I am planning to come back here in August with my family though.

This is not normally the kind of site we would visit ie very big, pub/cafe, crazy golf, swimming pool - but it was great. Despite all of the aforementioned this site was quiet, immaculately maintained and everyone is very friendly.
Our children used the pool (indoor) and the standards were high and nothing seemed 'out of hand' as it does on some site pools. There were some lovely woodland walks from the site - great for dogs. A lovely site - would go there again.

Stayed at this site in July, in field 5. Went with another couple in their caravan, and because they had a dog they always site you in field 5. The field was very hilly and steep slopes for you to pitch up.
Unfortunately for us the weather was not too good, and it was very windy - too windy to put up an awning, or sun canopy.(Funny fittings on the water tap, everyone was struggling to connect.)
The other fields however looked more secluded and sheltered. The dog walks are exceptional, really lovely.
The site was extremely clean in the showers with the new toilet block and underfloor heating. There were plenty of toilets and showers too. The shop on site is not bad, and they also have a camping shop on site which was quite good.
The fish and chips shop was excellent! If there is any drawback at all, it would be that you do need a car to get out and about, and the pitches on field 5 were too sloping for us to get any reasonable level. That said it was a very reasonable priced site.

Chose this weekend due to the great weather and the fact it was their last weekend at low tarrif. We decided to go at 3.00pm so rang the site who where most helpful in finding us to flat pitches side by side near one of the play areas for the children.
The site (as usual) came up trumps great warm showers, clean tidy loads to do and absolutely no need to leave the site at all. Beer and food all great prices and a great atmosphere on England debut world cup game. There was a caravan show on as well so there was free hot dogs and coffee to be had.

Other reviewers have commented about the size of the site, and make no bones about it, it is massive, however, the site is broken down into smaller fields, which have their own amenity blocks, and so although the site is huge, you don't get that impression once you're in.
The staff are very pleasant, and very professional and helpful. They recommended a smashing Chinese Take-away in Ilfracombe, and there were ample notices about the site giving details about local road closures (the whole country is being re-surfaced at the moment).
The facilities on site are also quite impressive, with an indoor swimming pool, a large barn disco and a smaller bar-room entertainment area where we were sang at by a couple of quite good female singers whilst we were there.
The bar does good hot and cold meals, which we all thought were good value and excellent quality
There was crazy Golf and also a quite large pitch and putt course - 18 hole - which was very reasonable, although it was all fairway and no greens, if you get my drift. But it was still great fun for us golfing novices to be able to whack a ball.
There was a riding stable and a 'Petorama' with goats and chickens etc for the kids.
Whilst we were there, we were treated to a sheepdog demonstration but with ducks instead of sheep, that was great fun.
The toilet and showers were kept clean and were ample for the site. They closed the toilet and shower block off for cleaning between 10.45am and 12 noon, but still allowed access to a toilet cubicle and urinal for the men, and I assume a similar arrangement for the ladies.
Showers were great, with movement activated water sprays, but there were no adjustments to the heat, and we did find it a little too hot for our taste, but you can't satisfy everybody can you?
The pitches were a bit of a slope, and I would say that the whole site is geared much more for the caravan, rather than a tent. But because we had a tent, they pitched us at the top of the 'slope' which was much flatter than the rest of the site, which was great. We did comment that the jockey wheels of caravans on other pitches were way up on blocks, and some of the caravans with runaways at the back, were having a few problems with their waste water.
The strangest thing about the site would have to be their strategy against tents. We had to pay an extra £6 per night than a caravan, because our groundsheet damaged the grass. Something which I have never come across throughout my 40 odd years of camping throughout the UK and Europe. Never-the-less, The cost was still comparable with other sites, so it wasn't a big issue, it just meant that my sister in her caravan next to us were paying £42 less than us. (They paid for an evening meal for us all, so that was good!)
One thing which we did not like very much was the way that the site personnel were whizzing about putting caravans out on pitches. A lot of people had caravans in storage, which they paid about £7 for the site to tow their caravans from the storage field and park on site. I have to say that the speed which they drove these things about the site was somewhat astonishing, and bearing in mind that there were speed ramps everywhere limiting the rest of us to 10MPH, these guys were a little disrespectful of other peoples property.
Stowford have a New and Used Caravan sales concession, and it was pleasant to have a look around the touring caravans. They also had a very well equipped Caravan Accessory shop, with very competitive prices.
Overall, we were impressed with this site. Would we go back? Possible, but North Devon has hundreds of camping sites, and I think that we would like to try out a few more sites in the area.
