What can I say about this place, perfect. We stayed here two years running and it is a brilliant site. The reception staff are so friendly and helpful.
The shop has everything you want but if you want more then there are some big supermarkets not far by car. The pub/restaurant and the take away are an extra bonus and do lovely food and after a hot day sight seeing it is lovely to have a cold lager then a slow walk back to the tent.
The toilet and shower blocks are clean all the time and there are plenty of them around the site. We stayed when they had their entertainment on last year and so enjoyed it all.
The walks they have there are stunning and beautiful. And with Ilfracombe only just up the road it made for two wonderful holidays and we will definitely be staying again.

Just arrived home after a week at Stowford, so while my memory is fresh. Very large site I believe predominately for touring caravans as a large percentage of the pitches are on a slope which makes tent pitching difficult.
Each field has a toilet/shower block which are cleaned regularly, plenty of hot water. The shop has everything you need and you have two entertainment venues, bar, swimming pool, stables, golf, the list goes on and on, but for some reason it doesn't quite do for me and my family.
North Devon is stunning, fantastic beaches and countryside would I go back, yes, would I go back to Stowford, probably not.

This was our first trip with our own unit to Stowford, the reception was professional and friendly and we were given an excellent map of where to go on site.
The pitch was slightly sloping in field 4 but it was huge and even though it was raining it was'nt soggy underfoot.
As in all family biased sites there were lots of children around, but there was so much space that they don't chase around the units as they do on some sites that we have been on, and strangely, they all seemed very quiet at night, probably because of the excellent facilities for children
There is no shortage of entertainment at Stowford with a good chipshop, an indoor pool, a huge family bar called the Barn, a pets corner and several bars which scored highly with us because dogs are welcome. There is also crazy golf and an eighteen hole pitch and putt, a good shop and a restaurant that we didn't get to try.
My dogs loved the dog walk which was a good size and you had the option of walking down into the valley and through the woods alongside the stream, the site owners had also thoughtfully put out poo bags and bins which made things easier and cleaner.
Would I go again, too right, I think its a five star site.

I defy anyone to find fault with this site. The staff are friendly and helpful. The facilities are excellent with toilet blocks in every field, two bars, pitch and putt, crazy golf, swimming pool, games room and best of all Petorama!.
During our two week stay, which was impressively priced at £139 we were pitched in field 2 which, although slightly sloping, was an enormous pitch big enough to take two cars the caravan and large awning with room to spare.
We were pitched close to a toilet block which we used once or twice and always found it clean with plenty of hot water and on tap radio. The showers are operated by sensor which meant you have to keep waving your hand in front of the sensor to start the shower when it stops. This is no mean feat when you've got shampoo in your eyes but I managed it!
The site is very large although I didn't feel that we were on top of each other. It may be that we were lucky in that it was quiet when we were there.
We did note that fields 4 and 5 were very busy with tents and vans but it seems that all the families with children were put there so the kids could mingle. One night we ate in the Stable Bar and thought the food was good value for money and well cooked.
The site itself is close to Ilfracombe (about 4 miles) which is a beautiful little seaside town. There is a large Tesco within Ilfracombe for all your needs.
To the East of Ilfracombe is Combe Martin which, when the weather is nice and the tide is out, is excellent for crabbing in the rock pools. It has a small beach and a handful of shops.
On a rainy day a good place to while a few hours away is Atlantic Village (factory outlet) which is on the Clovelly Road.
Clovelly is a small village and harbour where you pay about £7 to enter and wander down the cobbled streets to the harbour itself. Be aware this is very steep and flat shoes are required. Another worthy visit is Chambercombe Manor in Ilfacombe. This is an old Manor house privately owned and run.
There are tours around the house which are very interesting. Entry was about £7 per person. The Manor can be seen on Youtube as 'Most Haunted' visited there.
Back on site if you have kids, or not in our case, the Petorama is a must. It's a pleasure to go and feed the lambs, stroke the rabbits and little Guinea Pigs and get chased by the kittens.
All in all we can honestly say that this is a wonderful site in a lovely location and one we shall definitely be visiting again and again.

Very spacious pitches most with electric. A large proportion of the pitches are on slopping ground.
The check in was very fast and efficient and the pitch was well maintained. Toilet block facilities were very good with plenty of free hot water. I never once had to queue as there were lots of toilets and showers and the toilets were always clean.
The site had two entertainment rooms which were well planned with a variety of acts to suit all the family. The shop was well stocked and also the site had a caravan shop.
Now the points to consider. The site charged an extra fee of £1. 50 for the bouncy castles which were small and in my opinion could have been free. The swimming pool also had a fee of £1. 30 per person which puts up the holiday cost when you have a big family.
The park was fine in the day but attracted rowdy teenagers at night.
The local area was wonderful especially woolacombe

This was our first time at Stowford, The other family that cam with us had a caravan on the site so was recommended by them.
We decided to go for seven nights (first week of the summer holidays)
I was worried because the site is 700 pitches and it was the school holidays. I was very pleased to find that this site was one of the quietest sites I've been to.
Our pitches (three in total) was based in Field 4, It's a little bit of trek to the swimming pool and bar.
The showers I found to be too hot for children and a lack of personal wask rooms was little bit sad. We visited Field 5 a couple of times which has a lovely new show block.
The pitch sizes are the biggest I've stayed on, the grass is lush and green but the down side is the grass length is still to long and gets cut every other day that leaves the grass cuttings, you then end up covered in grass and your tent does too.
The swimming pool was warm and of a nice size. No slides but the staff tend to put in balls, diving sticks etc to make it more fun. The staff are warm and friendly.
We took part in the horse riding which is available on the site, My 4 year son did the paddock rid for 10 minutes and he loved it, My older son did the 30 minute ride with staff and again he loved it. Again, the staff are helpful and friendly.
The only real down side to the stay was the person who tows out the caravans from storage, On a number of occasions I watched as he didn't check for children when reversing and his speed was too high in the park for my liking.
The petarama section is great, the children loved feeding the sheep, goats and holding the rabbits etc.
Overall, I would highly recommend the site to any family that wants a quiet break.
We can't wait to go back and plan on going for 10 days

Visited this site during the second week of June this year.
The weather was not the best and Fri 10th it hammered down all day long.
We brought our (BIG) tent on this occasion and the pitch was big enough - no probs. Despite the rain the drainage was excellent and while the ground was damp there were no huge mud pools. The site is very big, but well laid out into smaller fields.
The toilet and shower blocks are big and clean, always with plenty of hot water. The bars and restaurants are well-presented and all the staff were friendly even in the face of my sometimes temperamental grandson of 4 yrs who sometimes believes the world must stop and listen only to him.
The surrounding rural area is gorgeous and woollacombe, Lynton and Ilfracombe are all close by and provide great beaches.
My grandson and granddaughter absolutely loved the big sheep and the Milky Way theme parks and the wife loved the Atlantic Village retail outlet. I will definitely go again.

Just got back from a week at Stowford-this site is huge!-the previous week we were on a 26 acre site in cornwall-Stowford is over 500 acres!
First impressions: check-in was easy & we were shown to our pitch which was the biggest we've ever had! It was a fully grassed sloping pitch (most are here) near the top of field #3.
Field #1 is the closest to everything & is dog-free, field #2 is flat & sheltered from the wind (all hardstanding), field #4 was a little crowded & #5 is exposed on a very sloping hill.
As others have said the caravan shop is well stocked should you have a problem, the pool was good with hot showers, shop is well stocked & the petorama is a good draw for kids-yes, you do pay each time you go there (& the pool) but the cost of the pitch is lower to start with.
Our 8yr old spent most of the week riding at the on-site stables & David is a great teacher. If we lived nearby weekly lessons would be a must!
Entertainment was good despite still being low season-bingo, singer & a very funny act with a guy singing in various outfits (his tina turner & glen campbell cowboy outfit complete with horse stand out!)
The petorama put on ferret racing as well!
Not all the bars are open out of high season but the ones that were. Were okay as was the food-enthusiasm was dampened by the fact that we had a cold, wet, windy week-not the sites fault though. But the grass was a little long which when wet wasn't fun to walk through.
Service was good & when my mother was taken ill someone from reception escorted the paramedic to our pitch & waited til she left.
Nearby things to do=lynton/lynmouth, croyde has a great beach & ilfracombe is very nice-try the hour long mackerel feathering trip (£12)bookable on the pier. Although you may get fed up eating your catch after a couple of days-we caught 19!
Bck on site. Noticed only a couple of the showers had curtains in our block but water was hot. Also, as someone else has pointed out the elsan points are a bit basic-a flexible pipe on the tap would be nice (to wash round your tank).
We came away having enjoyed our stay, despite the weather. We also came away with something else. You see the petorama also sell animals- we now have a duck & 2 chickens living with us!
Would we go back? My daughter wants to go now! We would I think. But leave the animals there next time!

Our first evening was spent in the bar and we ordered food which we waited 2 hours for. When it arrived it was cold and we sent it back. The staff were quite abusive when we complained.
The pitch itself was a good size and the shower and toilet facilities were ample and clean, although if showering late on the water did tend to go cold.
The kids enjoyed the parks and the animal centre which was extra but worth it as the kids loved holding the animals. The pony ride was cheap (£5) and the guy up there were superb, very patient and brill with the kids.
We did not use the swimming pool as a friend saw the lifeguard mop up urine after a little boy had an accident and then rinsed the mop in the pool. Terrible hygiene and this meant the pool was out of bounds for the whole week. The kids were very disappointed.
The location was good and the surrounding pubs dished up fab food. Well worth eating outside the site.
We will return to Devon as its a wonderful place but will give this site a wide birth next time.

This is a hige site, the biggest we have ever stayed on. The site appeared to be clean, with good dog walking areas. It took us a long time to find our pitch, the map we were given was not very helpful.
Our sloping pitch was located at the bottom of a hill, and was in a very unpleasant position. Whilst driving around (to find out pitch), we noticed a lot of unused pitches. My husband went back to reception to ask whether we could move to a better pitch. The reception staff were unhelpful, and said they were full and we could not move.
The shower block was old fashioned, and the shower cubicles were small, but at least we managed to have a hot shower. With such a big site, I would have expected better facilities. They had just one hairdryer for everybody to use!
The shop was well stocked with a good range of items, probably the best I have seen on a campsite, with prices as you would expect. The shop staff were very pleasant. The on site caravan centre/shop had a comprehensive range of items.
The bar was comfortable, but mind your heads if you are tall, they have very low beams! They advertise Sky, but there is only one television in the bar area and could be difficult to see if the bar is crowded.
Because of where we were pitched, we had a long walk to the shops and bar. Unfortunately, the time we were there was windy, rainy and very cold. We had booked for 3 nights but didn't stay.
Would not visit this site again.
