We visited the site on the 21st of July 2007 for two weeks and overall we were impressed with the facilities. Despite the horrendous 'far more than usual' rain [our pitch and from the look of it, many others, didn't drain very well] when we were there the toilet block was kept very clean and had free, piping hot showers day and night. As said many times the site is huge but didn't feel so. It had a nice, safe feel to it and I often saw a security patrol. I think there was only one night we heard unreasonable noise but this didn't last long at all. The shop was great and the swimming pool was good value for money; the staff in the pool and shop were very friendly. We only used the fish and chip shop twice and both times my wife and I didn't enjoy them [although I concede that F&C's are far nicer in the North, we know how to fry a haddock! The pitches were huge and providing you strategically stuck a stair/towel dyer/swing ball on your pitch you wouldn't get anyone tempted to drive across it [some pitches are three deep and we were closest the road]. It's a good location but the local area is fairly quiet. Woolacombe has a beautiful beach, split into 'dogs' and 'no dogs' [perfect for us as my boy has a phobia]. There's a handful of shops but don't go expecting to browse the high street! Ilfracombe, again, is a nice place but we found that after a couple of trips there and we'd seen it all. My only criticism of stowford farm is that for the size of the site the children's play area[s] need updating. One to the far side of the site was completely run down [my 5yr old son slipped off a bar and his top teeth went through his bottom lip] and the other, near the pool, was just 'okay' but needed brightening/weeding/graffiti removing. [The latter seems to be a haven for the teenagers to hang out with their coke bottles filled with cheap lager [aaarhhh, those were the days!]. There was an external table tennis table kicking about near the pool which seemed popular, and a dude with a nine-person trampoline turned up now and again but there was a charge for this. Basically I've seen far better facilities on much smaller sites. The entertainment facilities were fine if you like to see your kids running around to pop music like idiots at 7pm but, for me, the 10am entertainment should have been on in the early evening. The crazy golf was tired and the electric bikes were looking like they needed an update. Also, I arranged a stowford representative to meet me to quote for some work we needed doing on our caravan but despite three reminders and waiting five days [incl. Waiting in until 12noon on the Friday when we were promised someone would show] no-one came. Very poor customer service. I would recommend this site but we won't return, we felt the need for something more to do in the surrounding area. We visited the castle at combe martin [don't go if your kids are over 8, and if they're under that go three times at one pound each per return visit to justify the initial outlay]. We also went to the dinosaur park which was not good value for money. Based on the ridiculously high costs charged in Devon/Cornwall, £22.00 a night represented good value for money.

This is our 2nd visit to this site. It is a huge site over many fields and they do have holiday lodges now. As before the showers/toilets are spotless and plenty of them. There is a good value takeaway area with nice outdoor seating and in the high season they do have family entertainment. The kids loved the pool for which there was a small charge. Husband and kids played 18 holes of golf for little over £3 which was a bargain! This is an excellent family site with play areas, pets corner and horseriding (if prebooked). Bear in mind some pitches are sloping, so ask when booking where is best for you.

The location of this site is ideal for visiting the coast, Ilfracombe with it's pretty harbour is only about 3 miles away. It is surrounded by lovely countryside and you are tucked away from roads so it really is peaceful. It is a massive site but didn't feel like it once you were there. There seems to be loads for children to do on site but can't comment on the swimming pool, petorama etc as I didn't make use of them. The facilities are some of the best i've come across. They were kept spotlessly clean even though we were having some awful weather. There are plenty of toilets and 7 showers, I think, which were of a good size and worked on a sensor system so you don't have to keep pressing anything when the water stops! There are also plenty of sinks. The shop is good and the biggest campsite shop i've seen, prices seemed ok too. There is also a caravan/camping accessory shop on site and they do also sell caravans. One thing I haven't mentioned is the size of the pitches, they are huge! They are all numbered and have EHU. Some tents also had gazebos and these fitted on ok, so you can see how big the pitches are. The site is very dog friendly with a nice dog walk complete with bins and pooh bags provided. The booking in process was problem free and the staff seem friendly and helpful. There are a couple of bars, a restarurant and a fish & chip shop. Only one bar was open and this was nice and you could take your dog in there. Overall this site is lovely, if you can get over the sheer size of it.

We stayed here over the May half term holidays with our 2 boys - (5&8). We all had a great time and are back down there for a weekend in a few days time. Location is great being 15mins from Woolacombe and access is good once you leave the M5. Make no mistake, this site is big; but it doesn't feel that way. It's nicely split up into sections (or 'fields'), all of which are clean and tidy with well proportioned pitches. Showers etc were clean and available when we need them, the shop and caravan accessories shop were both well stocked, pool good, cafe good, takeaway etc etc. One thing - it is a bit slopey so be prepared. All in all, no complaints from us and we will be going back.

We have just returned from this site, the site was very well laid out with spacious pitches and very clean and well maintained facilities. The site was a bit to quiet for me and the OH. The shop was well stocked and sold a variety of non food goods as well as a good selection of food items. This is probably the best on site shop we have come across to date. It may have been because of the time we visited but as we have grandchildren ourselves we feel that the range of activities for children over 5yrs upwards was a bit limited, other than the pool. The directions from the brochure were spot on but if you follow this route please be aware that the roads from Barnstable to the site are very and I must stress very narrow and twisting. We found it a bit scary to say the least. We visited Ilfracoome which was very picturescue and they had a victorian fair which was lovely. Woolacoombe looked nice but because we were on a budget and only wanted to spend a short time here the carpark fees were based on all day parking. Back to the site itself, there was a woodland walk with a route map which we found a little confusing as some of the marker post were either hidden or not there. We feel only the more able bodied should attempt this walk as there are some steep parts to encounter.

Our family loved this site. It ticked every box and we have recommended it to our friends. The showers and toilet block was clean, shop had everything you needed (and not over priced) and we loved having a pool (have to pay for it but not expensive). Pet area is brilliant, children could handle the hamsters & chicks and feed goats, sheep and calves. Small restaurant does great food, recommend the breakfast. We are going to re-book for next year. - And another thing just thought of, all the staff were lovely.

Rainy cold bank holiday weekend. But other than that I can only praise this campsite. 1. Large well marked pitches (all with electric hook up's). We have an Outwell Nabraska XL and it fitted easily with plenty of room to spare. 2. Well sheltered site all fields surrounded by large hedges, so should be ok even in a stiff breeze. 3. Shower and toilet facilities, plentiful and well maintained. 4. Plenty of area's for the kids to play, with playgrounds and field areas. (Though the basketball court is grassed, rather unusual, hehe!) 5. Well stocked shop. 6. Pubs all with a different feel and entertainment put on. 7. Good games room and nice looking pool although we didn't try either. 8. Well positioned for a short drive to the beach and local towns. I could go on, suffice to say I was well impressed and will go back if we do Devon again. I would say that this is the sort of place to go if you want a comfortable and easy long weekend or week away with the family. There is plenty to do on site and very easy to get out and about. This isn't the sort of site for the rough and ready backpaker (but it doesn't pretend to be). We thoroughly enjoyed staying here, if not the weather we encountered, but that's what you get on bank holiday's!

This is quite a large site - which is usually a no-no for us. BUT it was really great! We had a good flat pitch with plenty of space. Not too far from the loo facilities, which are well-spaced over the site. It was not noisy at night. The bathroom facilities were very good - although, minor whinge, come on, again another site which has those press taps and showers so that you have to keep pressing in order for the water to flow. Surely it can be set to one minute - or at least 30 seconds? Some of the sinks, once you pressed the tap you didn't have time to put your hand under the water before it had stopped again! Charge a bit more if you must but give us enough water to clean our teeth! But overall great clean facilities. The other facilities on site were great too, very family friendly. The Karaoke was .umm. Interesting, but then I definitely wouldn't say I'm a 'karaoke person'. And I didn't have to be in that bar as there were a few to choose from. The kids aged 9 and 10 had a whale of a time and had plenty of company. The shop is the best I've seen on a campsite with some of everything including toys and games, all the foodstuffs, some clothes, off licence etc. The playground etc was also very good. The pool was lovely. Local attractions - you MUST visit Combe Martin Dinosaur and WIldlife park, see the wolves, feed the wallabies. The cafe in Combe Martin is good value for tasty food for the family. The beach is ok, the rockpools are nice. See a bit ore of the coast if you can, the hidden bits are stunning, as are parts of Exmoor. All in all - I recommend this site, and will go back despite the fact that I usually prefer a small family-run site. I got the definite impression that people return year after year - this site is fairly unique in being big AND beautiful.

Stayed for two weeks August 2005 and 2006. The site is well organized and clean although we noticed last year that it's growing at an incredible rate. A field the children played on the year before is now covered in caravans. Pool a bit small for size of site but adequate. Shop excellent and caravan accessory and workshop could be useful. Children enjoyed the site and when we had a problem with a neighbour's unleashed dog fouling every morning we mentioned it to the office and it was sorted immediately. PS we were on the dog field. This was a worry at first as we had no dog ourselves but this was only spot available but no noise and all (but one) on leads. In fact we asked for this field on our return due to its proximity to play area etc.

What can I say about this site, apart from amazing. Everything that I read about this site (before i went) is all accurate. All staff on the site were friendly, and everyone else on the site keep the noise down after 22:00 hrs.
Stowford Farm Meadows is a nice place for all ages, we will definitely be returning to this site in the new year. All facilities are kept clean, nice and tidy. It is prety much in the centre of the major towns and cities in the area, such as Ilfracombe, Woolacombe, Combe Martin and Barnstaple, so you will never be short of things to do. Also if you do go to this area around the start of August, you may want to go to the Combe Martin Carnival, which runs for a week, which is such fun to go to.
This site is quite a journey away from places in the Midlands, and places in the north, but it is but definitely worth the journey. We came from the East Midlands, near Leicester, and it was worth every mile, and we had an amazing holiday. Hopefully the start of many to come at Stowford Farm Meadows.
