Spent a week here in April. Fantastic special offer - £39! Lovely site with loads of facilities including indoor swimming pool, 2 bars, restaurant, take-away, caravan accessories shop and general shop. Shower block was very clean but a bit cold due to lack of heating. Showers were plentiful and we did not have to queue. Very nice indoor pool. Horse riding was also good - kids really enjoyed this.
Very large site with fantastic views all around. Large pitches but ours was really slopey so chocks and lots of levelling blocks needed! Fantastic area with Woolacombe, Croydd & Saunton nearby where there are some of the best beaches in the UK. Ilfracombe while pleasant beginning to look a little tired. Combe Martin itself is very pleasnt and well worth a visit (10 min drive).
All in all, very good site in great location. They also sell new & second-hand caravans and have caravan technicians on hand should you have any problem! Pretty much the complete site.

Just come back from a week at Stowford - we went on recommendation of a friend. I have to say that there were no problems at all with the site. The facilities were plentiful - bars, swimming pool, kids play area, restaurant etc. The toilets and showers were very clean and the staff pleasant, but this site just wasn't for us. Although the pitches were quite large it felt very claustrophobic as most pitches had caravans on them and they all looked very regimented. There were not many campers at all. Nowhere to freeze ice packs - you will have to hire them from the camp shop and be charged £2.00 deposit per ice pack and then a further 50p for small and 80p for large ice packs. Anyway, the area is fantastic. Beach at Woolacombe is stunning. Great day out at the Gnome Reserve - massive amounts of laughing at the adults in gnome hats! Dont bother going to Quince Honey Farm - its very expensive to get in, staff unhelpful, no one to answer questions and after 15 minutes its all over! Lynton and Lydmouth were stunning and well worth a visit. Try the site if you like large sites with lots of facilities then this will be for you.

We've just bought our first motorhome (after being 'tenters' for 3 years) and this was our first trip out - in view of the horrible weather forecast (typical British Bank Holiday!), we wanted a site which had plenty of facilities so that we didn't actually have to go anywhere if we didn't want to. This site had caravan sales and an accessory shop, which was very useful - the pitch was sloping so we had to buy some blocks. We had a hardstanding in field 5, and were close to the toilet and shower facilities which were excellent. Very clean, plenty of shower and toilet cubicles and showers were on a motion sensor so no button pressing! Pool and changing rooms clean, although of course the pool was busy in view of the dodgy weather. In peak seasons, I note that they have a serious swimmer and toddler session in the morning, which is useful. The fish & chip shop was reasonably priced, and food was good - helped by fact that they were very busy so all food was very fresh (compliments to the staff - excellent service under pressure!). There was a carvery in the restaurant next door, but looked like quite a wait which was why we went for the takeaway option - don't know what other food they do. There is a nice country walk from the site - the sun came out for us which was lovely! Unfortunately we got a bit lost coming back so ended up on a detour all around the site - the other fields seemed noiser, so I would probably ask for field 5 again. All in all very pleasant break - all the staff we dealt with were friendly and helpful - my only small criticism would be the time by which we had to vacate the pitch - I think 10am is a bit early, but fortunately we didn't have to worry about packing a tent! Didn't go off site so can't comment on surrounding area, but would definitely visit again.

On arrival I was impressed by the private drive and by the eight staff in reception waiting to help. We were in field 5 which is the furthest away from the center on hard standing. I have to say that almost all of the pitches were very big but on a 20 degree slope which required blocks on blocks on more blocks to get level. The site was in great condition and had good views all around.
The toilet blocks were good too. The petorama was okay but one trip was enough. The pool was good but busy as it was so windy and cold. We had a meal at the restaurant which was really nice but it shuts at 8pm. The shop was very well stocked and open all day 6 days a week. Bitten by the bug we visited the caravan sales shop and they must be very busy as they had no time for me at all and lost a sale expecting me to wait for 3 hours on my holiday to spend my money! All in all a great site close to some great beaches and towns.

Got the brochure for this site in with my Caravan Club magazine and decided to go for it for the October half term hols £59.99 week deal. Firstly there is a bit of traffic in Barnstaple and if you are a newbie like me you'll find the tourer friendly route to the site a little windy and scary! The site in itself in my opinion was lovely. It seems it has become very commercial with the caravan sales/repairs workshops.
However, it was so big you didn't notice. The only regular occurrance was the guy in the landy towing vans on and off pitches all day. A lot of people store their vans here and come down for short breaks. We stayed on field 5 (dog friendly). I think it was the only field on a slope, so don't forget your chocks. We drove round the whole site & think this is the best field. It had a lovely view across open fields with the cows and a serene sunset, but beware no phone reception or normal tv reception at all here. The pitch sizes were huge and there was water points at every other pitch.
The shower block well appointed with sensor showers which were free, abundant hot water, lockable cubicles with ample storage for clothing. Private toilet/basin cubicles. Decent elsen point/laundry facilites. Huge on site shop, chippy very busy, didn't use the cafe but looked reasonably cheap. Has a fantastic indoor heated pool for a small fee. Tesco's is nearby, (it's not big but ample), so come prepared. They do great discount weeks for £39.99 in low season. Dog walk was steep but clean (owners provide poop bags).
Kids play area dated but there is the petorama, golf & such. Only do the woodland walk if you are able bodied. On site pub was reasonable, cosy & dog friendly. I don't think you are within walking distance of another pub or shop. Son learned to ride his bike here and made loads of friends so it is very child friendly.
A great base to discover beautiful North Devon. Coombe Martin is great to go to for crabbing with a dog friendly pub overlooking the cove (gorgeous). Ilfracombe looked tired but the coastal drive is worth it. Barnstaple is great for all your shopping needs. Didn't venture any further as the site just totally chilled us out.
Overall a lovely site but not much to do for teenagers and nowhere within walking distance but if you want a family friendly site with all the amenities then this is a decent site especially with their vouchers.

Wonderful years at this site with family and friends. Area never changes, close to beach where dogs are accepted. All staff friendly and helpful the facilities are perfect. The swimming pool is clean and warm and always feel that children are safe in surroundings. Grass is always kept neat and lots to see and do, on site and off. Entertainment is great and will have a good night out. No driving so you can have a drink. Childrens club with entertainment great fun for the adults and kids. Food on site never had any complaints from me or the family. Site shop very reasonably price.Never want to leave for home.

Just returned from 9 nights at Stowford. Had a great time and as other posters have said the fields are well spaced out so you don't really notice the size of the site (which is huge). We chose this site because of the good reviews and also the special offer they have on during Sept for £39.90 per week! The staff are very accommodating, on arrival we decided that we didn't really like the pitch positioning on Field 2, so they gave us a list of 14 other pitches to look at and choose from.
Although our original intention was to stay on a dog free field, we ended up on Field 3 (a dog field) as the views were great the field far more open/spacious. Most owners (about 95%) were brilliant and respected the rules of keeping dogs on leads and poop scooping etc, but there were occasions, where dogs were off leads, and a couple of times where dogs escaped in the early hours (2am) and you had the owners shouting for them! There was also dog mess on the playing fields but cannot blame the site for this as there are plenty of notices stating the rules.
With all the pitch changing going on, didn't realise until later on that the brochure given to us, contained no information about where dish-washing facilities or family bathrooms were. We had to ask other campers. Dish-washing is at end of toilet block, family bathroom behind reception or in toilet block on field 5.
Didn't notice any on-site security patrol and got the impression anybody could drive on and off the site as a few families had families come stay with them a few days. Could be a positive or negative thing depending on how you look at it.
Have to agree the take away food is not good. Pies were nice but chips & jacket potatoes hard. Also a bit pricey. Shop brill, lots of supplies. Swimming pool fantastic value for money. 4yrs and under free, £1.25 for adults. Inflatables & even goggles available to borrow. And SO warm! Brill for babies, and toddlers. The staff here are very friendly and welcoming.
Play areas tired and worn out - also nothing suitable really for under 3's I would say. One baby swing, and a small climbing frame that required supervision. Didn't do the woodland walk as was told not pushchair friendly.
Toilet/Shower block clean. Hot water - really is HOT. Showers OK, but not fantastic, bit small, size of toilet cubicle with Shower curtain dividing the space, one stool and two hooks provided. Main thing is they were clean and warm.
Family bathroom not so clean -it was usable but the mat was wet and dirty so had to keep kids off the floor until dried, dressed and had shoes on which was a bit of a struggle. But still easier then trying to get them in the single shower cubicle with me.
Dish washing facilities great. Washing machine a bit expensive at £2 a go.
Petorama OK, but not at all what I was expecting. Mostly rabbits and guinea pigs, gerbils and more rabbits. Couple of goats a calf and puppies. Puppies were so cute however they were allowed to run freely outside the pens which meant we had to avoid stepping in dog wee most of the time. Not good when you've got little kids running around. Quite small so in and out in 10-15mins.
Another thing to mention -really struggled to get a signal for mobile phone anywhere on site!. Began to understand why they had 6 payphones on site!
Obviously the above is from an adults perspective - Even with some of the negatives described our Kids aged 3 and 18months still enjoyed the play area, petorama, freedom of the site and having a bath! Swimming and making friends on site is what they enjoyed the most.
Off-site we all enjoyed hiring bikes on the Tarka Trail (fantastic), Watermouth Castle (bit overpriced), Dinosaur Park (also expensive but well worth a visit), Woollacombe beach (nice if weather good), Ilfracombe (aquarium very small, ice creams lovely, tunnels beaches cafe with play area absolutely fantastic and wish we had found it at the start of our holiday. Lovely harbour, some nice beachy shops) Royal Marina in Coombe Martin do the best carvery. £6.50 adults, £5 children, but stacks of choice and all delicious.
All in all a fantastic stay, weather great, and Stowford gave us a good experience for our first time camping - would definitely stay again if going to North Devon again.

Indoor pool and take away was adequate and resteraunt did good meals Tesco a couple of miles away and inbetween wollacombe and ilfracombe, Showers and toilets cleaned thouroughly daily and staff polite and friendly, petting barn good for kids and plenty on site if you don't want to go anywhere, 5 and half hour drive from yorkshire but would do it again.

Just returned from a three night stay, over the bank holiday weekend. This is the third time we have stayed on this site. It is a wonderful site, everything first class, shower facilities are absolutely spotless, automatic showers no taps / temperature to fiddle with so can be a little on the cool side (especially if you like a hot shower) but ideal for the kids, you can be assured they will not scald themselves.
Nice takeaway on site, very reasonable prices, but quite a long wait - so be prepared to be patient. Shop on site - stocks most things, prices a little on the high side!. Riding stables, we can highly recommend, really nice guy in charge, and his helpers really friendly, very reasonable prices too - which makes a change. Various other things on site, far too many to mention.
Wonder though if they have ever thought of putting us poor tenters nearer the toilet blocks! it seems every site, likes to put us further away from the toilets and those in the smart caravans (with facilities) right next to the facilities! apart from that very enjoyable stay.

I would thoroughly recommend this site to anyone wishing to visit N. Devon. The staff were all polite and friendly, the site was clean and well ordered and there was plenty to entertain both children and adults. Its location is good - about 5-8 miles from Woolacombe, Ilfracombe and Combe Martin. Ilfracombe was a little tired, but Woolacombe is a superb family beach and Combe Martin is simply stunning - a beautiful little bay that offers good swimming and rock pooling. The provision of amenities is more than adequate. Although the site is relatively expensive, there are lots of "added value" free or cheap activities, with free access to woodland walks, visits by childrens' entertainers and zookeepers, a good adventure playground, games rooms, a proper swimming pool, a reasonable shop, a camping and caravan accessory shop that comes in handy, a fish and chip shop and a nice restaurant. Showers are free. Although is is a large site, it somehow maintains a friendly and intimate feel and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We stayed on Field 3, so we can't vouch for the amenity provision on other fields, as each field has its own block.
