The scenery on this site is breathtaking, however one consequence of this is that the pitches can be a bit slopy. We were very impressed with the bar and restaurant (could open a bit earlier for breakfast)and the toilet block was great. Lots of hot water for showers and plenty of facilities. We found the site noisy, music quite loud until after midnight, but this was a minor problem in view of all the other positives. We will definitely be going back to this lovely site.

We have been to this site several times over the past twenty years, and it just keeps getting better and better.
We booked in July for a mid-August stay of four nights, and only the Fellside field was available (which means no designated pitch - this field is for non-EHU pitches only). This was fine - we'd been before and knew what to expect. It's a very sloping field, so our advice is to get there in the middle of the day - they say no one can pitch before 2 pm, but we got there at 1.30, and they happily let us on. At that time you get the pick of the newly available sites. We got a very level pitch, but saw other campers get very sloping sites later on, and then move their tents the next day when they saw someone else move off.
The facilities are brilliant, and there was always someone cleaning - I even saw loo rolls being changed at 10.30 pm, which I've not seen anywhere before. Loved the 'family' shower cubicles, and the private toilet and wash basin cubicle provided in each toilet block.
Despite horrendous weather on our last afternoon / night, we stuck it out because we'd promised the kids a meal at the campsite restaurant, and there would have been mutiny if we'd let them down. It was well worth it, the food was excellent, and very fresh. The bar/restaurant has free wifi access, as well as a selection of board games etc, and a book swap area - perfect for a wet evening.
The boys enjoyed paddling in the stream in wellies - until the last morning when it was a raging torrent. The site is too sloping to play football, but we were able to play other games outside. It quietens down very quickly in the evenings away from the electric hook-ups. Many campers are serious walkers and are happy just to sleep!
We love it and don't bother looking for anywhere else in the Lakes.

We arrived there in the first week of August and slightly disappointed with our pitch, as fair enough it has been used frequently before us, but we had to pitch on the mud virtually, therefore bring an extra fly sheet, ours was not the only bad pitch. Apart from that I couldn't really have any more complaints. Thankfully we where on the Ghyllside which was excellent with brilliant views, as the other side looked as though it was on a very steep hill and a bit of a hike to get to your tent. Toilet/shower facilities spot on and checked and cleaned regularly, the washing up area was good also, restaurant/bar prices I thought reasonable and with a small games room at the back, which my children never used as happy to play in the stream and walk around.
Very quite at night with no problems with other people and security is very good.
The staff are very friendly and any problems or questions they are more than happy to help
Four mile drive to the nearest town which was Bowness, which had everything there shopping wise and the main tourist place, also for your starting place for the boat trips. We went to the Lakeside Zoo on the southern end of Lake Windermere, which was impressive and there is plenty of other things to keep you busy.
Recommend go ape in Grizemere, although a hefty price it is brilliant.
Would go again to that campsite without hesitation as long as I brought my extra groundsheet.

We visited this site in July and would definitely return. The welcome was very friendly and we were shown to our pitch, which had a beautiful view over lake Windermere. (pitch 19). The park has fantastic facilities, restaurant (with take away facility), bar, games room, toilet facilities were immaculate, fully stocked shop. We took our dog who also had a fantastic time. Play area for the kids was great and plenty of places to sit whilst they played. Staff also came around on the Sat evening to inform us that the site next door had some live entertainment on that night, and to let us know that it should be finished by 11pm. Excellent site and well worth another visit.

In the main this is a lovely camp site, perfectly located to explore the south lakes, the staff were very friendly and helpful, bathrooms were clean and always available, and the restaurant served excellent food, but as with all things, nothing is perfect, and I am one of those people who appreciate knowing the down sides to things before hand. Having read some reviews on the site before we arrived we were of the opinion that the pitches were surprisingly level, and although they are quite good, I would suggest taking the necessary equipment to adjust your caravan a few inches, or live with it as we did,and only the very best of rock pegs will do for your awning, I never found ground so hard, also I found the shop too small and with very little stock, and this being our first time out, we were thinking that anything we realised we needed, we would be able to find it on site, they do however carry the bare essentials, but the only major criticism, and one that would make me reconsider any future visits,is the road leading to the site, (Birks Road) for one you must be sure to enter from the south, and it is very narrow, and if like me you are unfortunate enough to bump into an oncoming car, then a lot of skill in manoeuvring your caravan will be required, and if it's another caravan, then someone is in trouble, if you be sure not to arrive before midday and you leave before that, this should be avoided, thankfully it's only about 750 yards to the entrance of the site, also coming out of birks road is a nightmare, to turn right requires a three point turn in the middle of the road, and to turn left into birks road requires the same, having said all this we enjoyed our break.

Stayed for two weeks in July 2009. We booked in Feb and were offered locations in both the camping 'ghylside' and touring 'moorhow' areas. I took the moorhow option as I the pitch in ghylside had stepped access and it wasn't possible to park the car beside it (remember to ask about this when booking).
Upon arrival after navigating the VERY sharp turn off from the main road, we were very glad we went to moorhow and not ghylside: Ghylside is a very steep and exposed camping area - we would have been very worried with 2 kids under 3 about them falling over when running about the hill, an also excessive noise from the wind at night. We would also have been concerned at having to cross a public road to get them to the ONLY shower / toilet block on the whole site. We met others who camped there and felt cheated at not knowing how steep and exposed this area is when they were booking.
The moorhow area has a reputation for being more flatter and sheltered than Ghylside but after speaking to people who camp their regularly I learned that the touring area can attract sever localised gusts duw to the close proximity of surrounding hills 'funnelling' the wind up the fell. We spoke to people whose caravan awning had blown down two years ago - everybody else apparently knew to leave awning doors open in storms when touring at Park Cliffe - you have been warned.
OK that's the bad news out the way.
The good news is that the people who run the site are VERY friendly & always good mannered. They even mowed the grass on our pitch before we put the tent up so if it turned yellow after two weeks it wouldn't be so smelly! - very thoughtful of them.
The food in the pub looks made form fresh ingredients and tastes great, such a pity our wee kids were too hyper to sit still long enough! But fortunately they also do takeaway!
We especialy liked the Mum/daughter Dad/son showers - big enough for one of the parents to shower the kids while the other attends to other things. Never had a problem with cold water once. They also hav family bathrooms that can be booked in advance for a £10 deposit, we never made use of these and regret it, we met others who had and they felt they were the best thing about the site.
Loads of things to see, South Lakes safari park is incredible with animals such as emus etc. Walking around beside you. Love the steam train / aquarium / steam boat combo trips you can get at Windermere. Also loved Keswick, loads to do. Dont forget Penrith for cheap simple swimming and softplay (pirates of penrith) if the weathers not so good. Fell foot play area not too far and great for a lazy day. We also went to Blackpool and had three great days at the pleasure beach, tower and Sandcastle water park.
Word of warning - watch you don't listen to satnavs when navigating to this site we ended up doing u-turns on country lanes when presented with a 3 feet deep ford some 20m wide! and even better ended up a private road to a local mansion! - didn't see the private road signs! Always navigate to windermere / newby bridge depending on whether you are travelling from South or North respectively.
All in all, a great place to spend your hols and we will be back - but not to Ghylside!

We visited this site 26 June for 10 nights in a tent, myself, my wife, 2 daughters aged 2 and a half years and one year.
This campsite is set in a beautiful quiet location yet you are on the doorstep to venture into the heart of the Lake District. We are regular campers and we can actually say that our holiday was perfect. Firstly I'll begin with the campsite itself.
For 4 of us for 10 nights with electric and facilities our overall holiday cost was £265 - an exceptional bargain!
If you are staying for more than a few nights I would ask for electric as you will get flat ground as the non electrical pitches are set on slopes.
Out of the many sites we have stayed on this is the cleanest, the showers and toilets are cleaned regularly throughout the day, this was so important to us especially with having 2 young children and we had 10 days here. So keeping clean and hygienic was easy with the cleanliness of the facilities thus comfortable.
The views around this fairly large site are stunning, a huge hill is dominant, which I climbed, not to be underestimated, it gets quite difficult as you near the top! And full of sheep too! There is an amazing alarm clock too, the sound of cows in the attached field! It's a beauty of nature site this is. The children's' play park is probably the best park you will ever take your kids to! And us! It is very adult friendly too, great swings! We ate on site twice of an evening, the quality of their meals are of the best, they can't be faulted, real generous servings at most reasonable prices and top quality good food. The staff are very friendly and are pleased to help you all day long and night.
My only concern before booking was that this site is 4 miles from anywhere as we wanted to spend our evenings in Bowness fore meals and drinks so we wouldn't be able to drive. However, the very helpful staff provided us with a pamphlet of how to get there by foot and a bus timetable by which you can catch a regular bus at the bottom of the lane leading up to the campsite! Our first couple of nights we took the walk, it takes about 1 and a half hours and that was with pushchairs! It's not a bad walk but some little steep hills to cover, but on a lovely summers' evening it is perfect to smell the country side and take in the greenery all the way. And all the more perfect - and this WAS perfect - there is a hotel about halfway where you can stop off for a well deserved drink and sit on their terrace which has a spectacular view of lake windermere! Words can't describe that relaxation!
The bus service is brilliant, as it is not an official bus stop you do need to put out your hand. The last afternoon bus for an evening in Bowness is 5.10pm. We never got buses back at night, we got a taxi, which costs £11, I would highly reccommend Paragon Taxis, very friendly and you won't get any cheaper than this, after all you are on holiday and you get to enjoy excellent family friendly nightlife in Bowness!
The bus service also takes you to Ambleside which we did on a few days setting off in the morning then getting a further bus from Ambleside to Grasmere. Then we would get the bus back to Ambleside then a boat back to Bowness for our evening. Travel is easy from this campsite!
Last year we went to Park Foot in Ullswater which you can see my review of on this website. From there it was quite far to get anywhere if you weren't spending time in probably the best village in the world Pooley Bridge. But with Park Cliffe you are not far from most of the best spots in this paradise!
We loved it, the children loved it, you will love it!

We just returned from 5 days at Park Cliffe and although the weather was pretty bad, we loved it!
The facilities are excellent, the park was at full capacity and yet we didn't queue for showers/loos/pot wash once. The shower/loo blocks are spotless and kept clean throughout the day. There are private bathrooms to rent by the day and I believe are free (pls check first I could be wrong) if pre-booked in 45 min slots but honestly, we didn't feel the need, the public ones were perfect.
The pub/restaurant is large and friendly with good reasonable food (recommend the pizza), there's a separate bar for adults only and the restaurant has board games atc to keep the kids entertained.
The shop is well stocked and open all day,
There's a small stream running through the site which the kids loved, (fishing nets available from the site shop) so my 9 yr old spent most of the week plodging!
The site is large and very well maintained, the tourer pitches are on gravel which if we hadn't had awning carpet may have been a problem but with the carpet down it was fine. As it was pouring when we packed up we found the hard standing less hassle than packing up a muddy grassy awning etc.
The camping field seemed to be on a slope so I'm not sure how we'd have felt pitching our tent on a quite steep hill but the field was very busy and I didn't hear anyone complaining about it?
We had our Labrador with us and found that the dog exercise area could be better but we managed ok.
Overall I highly recommend this site and am looking forward to returning in the next few years.

This site was absolutely fantastic,w hen we arrived we were escorted to our pitch (a nice touch I thought). It's not a fangle dangle site. There wasn't any entertainment in the clubhouse, but there is a large t.V and they do have a varied menu, the food was excellent. The site is spotless and the staff are very friendly and work very hard. I visited the toilets in the early hours and passed a toilet attendant who had just checked the loos, this is how they maintain the high standards both day and night. The site is very well maintained and is surrounded by lots of walks, Lake Windermere is close by where we hired a motor boat and there is an activity centre just across the road. A word of warning DO NOT use your sat nav, ring the staff for directions.

Visited this site with the family 2 young children age 4 and 6. Good site facilities including hot shower and toilet facilities kept clean. Laundry and plenty wash basins for dish washing etc. Bar and restaurant on site and all staff were very helpful. Shop on site which sells groceries and refrigerated items. Camping accessories also can be purchase. The costs for all items in the shop were reasonable. The site has a small stream running through it and the kids love it, and the surrounding scenery is pictures. Children's play area on site swings and climbing facilities log effect.
The site is well situated to visit if you have transport, Bowness Windermere, Ambleside, Keswick, Grassmere ect.
We took the Steam Boat trip from Bownes to Amble side on the and again the kids loved it and it cost about £22 return for 2 adults charge for 1 child the youngest free.
I will return to this site at some point because we had a lovely time and good experience here however we like to try new sites and travel to different sites.
I was happy that the security on the site kept the noise level down after 11.30pm showing consideration for others.
Our first camping trip therefore difficult for me to rate the site against others at this time overall we had a realy nice time.
