June 2003 First word of warning, aproach from the south as I just had my car and the turn into the road is very sharp and anyone with a caravan or trailer will not make it. Now thats the bad bit, here's the good.
A very well kept campsite, ablutions very good and clean and you can book a family room as well. Not a lot of flat pitching area so can be a problem at night rolling all over the place, but what do you expect in the Lake District. Excellent views from the top of the campsite, and a thirty minute walk at the back of the campsite up a steep hill and the views are even more stunning, my 6 year old daughter managed this so not too bad.
Bar on site small but were building outside area when I was there, food very good portions - huge. Shop a little pricey. Water taps close to tents.
Just down the road from Bowness, Lake Windermere. Would go back as a very nice camp site, if a little hilly.

Easter Week 2004 Looks like all the guys above must of been my neighbours over Easter :-). Found this site on UKCampsite.co.uk, read the reviews looked at web site and hit the road, We thought this campsite was great for families, as we have two young children and they loved it, paddling in the stream, adventure playground, football field and a games room, for us the pub and splendid views and walks, all the facilities were nearby to the camping area. The site is situated in a valley 10 mins in a car from Windermere. The only problems we found was that some pitches were sloped and although it was a nice bar it took ages to get served as only one barman. We also thought that closing the main gates at 11pm was a good idea to keep cars from waking people up......... We will visit this site again in the near future.

30th April 2004 Very enjoyable site to visit. We were there on a busy Bank Holiday weekend but the facilities remained spotless. The staff were very helpful and although there were a lot of children (ours included) they were all well behaved. Would recommend this site and will be returning. Try a visit to the Mason's Arms Pub in Gummer Howe if you like your beer!

Easter 2004 Nice friendly camp with beautiful views, very clean toilets and showers with plenly hot water, friendly staff and cats. Large pitches for tents with hook up, but a little steep in parts. Only drawback was that we hit on bad weather and not enough for two three year old toddlers to do. Would certanly go back without kids in tow.

April 2004 This was the first time any of us had been camping and found the site through UKCampsite.co.uk My partner, myself and 4 year old daughter arrived for 3 nights at the end of the Easter break and even though it rained lots, a great time was had by all. The shower/toilet facilities are exceptional, no extra charges and appeared to be cleaned constantly. The small bar/restaurant offers good food at ok prices and they have just recently refurbished the childrens play area. Great views over Lake Windermere, plenty of pitches, recommend it to everyone. All staff very helpful, even advised if shop closed, ask at bar and they would reopen.

August 2003 On arrival we were disappointed to be put in the field opposite the main campsite, even though we had booked well in advance. The pitch was very muddy and the tents all seemed to be crammed in where we where. The park itself was very nice although alot of the pitches were on slopes. The toilets were very clean and the restaurant served good meals. There was a good walk up a very high hill and the play area was pleasant for kids.

August 2003 It is a very nice campsite, we were lucky to get a flattish pitch over the road from the main bit. It was better here as it was more spacious and quieter. The walk to the facilities were only 1 minute.
The facilities were good. The food was ok, but there were no cheap meals really.
The bar was good with friendly staff but (coming from London) the prices were very similar! There are no pubs or shops within walking distance and if you fancy a drink or something from the shop, be prepared to pay up to twice the supermarket prices! Even the newspaper I bought was 10p more than the price on it.
Still, that aside, go to Asda in Kendal and get some groceries and you'll have a fab time.

August 2003 We found this site to be everything we wanted. We even had to added bonus of being able to pitch next to our friends caravan - which was a big plus. The other big plus was the hire of the private bathroom - with 4 kids between us it was well used!!!
The tent site is rather hilly and was glad to be on the caravan site. The facilities where clean and well kept. The bar/resturant/shop were staffed by usually polite people. Food and drinks were excellent if not expensive but you tend to expect this. It was nice to have the choice of being by your tent or eating/drinking in the bar.
It did get noisy on one or two nights but it is a family site. I would recommed entering via the south and the site is no good for people without a car. We will have no hesitation on coming back.

august 2003 My first impressions of the site were that, as a young couple with no car, we had made a bit of a mistake booking in here. I din't realise just how far out in the sticks this site was and consequently we spent a fortune on taxis getting to and from Windermere and Bowness. We were informed by staff on arrival that a limited bus service went down Birks Road but actually finding the bus stop proved impossible as, on foot on a very busy road, it was very difficult to walk far without the prospect of getting run over.
On a more positive note, the site is definitely suited to families as shown by the fact that it was fully booked and heaving with happy children (and dogs!) with loads of space to run about while their parents chilled out in the bar. We only ate once at the site but the food was very nice and the alcohol was quite reasonably priced too. The facilities were basically clean although a bit smelly. The staff were extremely helpful and prompt in dealing with my enquiries prior to booking but some of the younger staff were a little on the abrupt side during our stay.
In all, I'd definitely recommend this site as long as you have a car to get about and if you are a family group but otherwise in future I shall be trying to get into campsites closer to town.

August 2003 I cannot emphasis the importance of approaching from the South if you have a trailer/caravan. Even approaching from the North in a Ford Focus I had to make a swing at the junction to avoid bottoming the sill out and beware if there are any other vehicle behind you as they may just expect you to do a normal left junction turn.
As far as the facilities go I don't recommend the shop for anything other the milk/papers, there were some tomatoes in the shop fridge display counter that looked as if they had been there since the beginning of the year!! and the price for a pack of bacon was £3.
The rest of the facilities were however excellent, they have and outside 'taverna' "2.40 for a pint of lager and it serves LARGE portions, recommend the Lamb Henry and the Curry and are reasonabally priced, the breakfast price list however does seem a little expensive. The showers etc were allways clean and the staff were friendly.
AGAINST. As stated the approach on the A592. I highly recommend that you book in advance and that you arrive early, even allthough you book it is still a first come first serve basis for allocation basis. When we arrived there were without doubt limited level pitches and having a Kyham xxxl it can't fit into the smallest of places. We found that there was no regulation of where you could pitch, as such you had small tents taking up lots of valuable space, i.e the level pitchs infront of the cleaning sinks beside the stream.I also found that there wasn't a lot of water taps close by and as such had to toodle of to the main block. The childrens playpark is also a bit of a trek away from the hussle and bussle and personally I would be reluctant to let my child go there alone as it is isolated, but he did enjoy it. Overall the site is situated about 5miles south of Windermere and this I felt was a negative point as you couldn't just go for a wee stroll into the town. I would go back however this would only be if I couldn't get booked into Limefit, which is at the north of the town, as I feel that it has alot more to offer. Marks out of 10 ------ 6. Hope this helps you make your mind up.
