Had a wonderful week at this site. Must have chosen the worst week weather wise but still had a fantastic time. We arrived at reception & had a very smooth check in. The lady even walked us up to our pitch which was a little worn but still in reasonable condition. Hubby & I managed to get the tent up with a little help from a member of staff who took pity on us trying to erect it in gale force winds, torrential rain & even some hail stone! Once up we had a very windy & wet week but tent took it well. The site was very beautiful & very clean, even with all the rain & mud. We used the family bathroom every night which was fantastic with the kids (3 & 1). Every time we went to the toilets they were immaculate, warm & in excellent condition. All the staff we saw were very friendly, chatty & helpful. The site itself was very tidy. We didn't eat in the restaurant but it was fairly busy at the weekend & did look very good. We did use the takeaway service on our first night & all the food was really good. We used the shop a couple of times for bits n pieces & found it great, very well stocked. We didn't have any problems with noise after about 8pm so kids slept very well. The site was very picturesque & the kids thought it was great. The playground was excellent & if the sun had come out we would have definitely made use of the picnic seating. Brilliant site in great location, excellent service, great facilities & we will definitely be back, hopefully with a bit of sunshine

I stayed here with my partner for three nights in early September and was very happy with the site and facilities. There are lots of pitches available on the Fell side and we picked one next to a water tap and a short walk to the toilet blocks. You can pick your own pitch site which meant that you weren't squashed up close to other campers.

Toilets and showers were very clean and warm. There were two ladies toilet blocks so if one was being cleaned the other was available. The showers were push button operated which I find irritating, but obviously saves water which was warm enough, and the block was very clean.

The crockery washing up facilities were clean and there were enough of them that we didn't have to wait to get a sink. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

The on-site shop is very small and seemed to be only open upon request which was a bit inconvenient, maybe its open all day during high season though

We were staying in the weekend leading up to a very bad bout of windy weather and the park manager made sure we knew what to expect and gave us advice for securing the tent properly to withstand the high winds.

There is not an awful lot in the immediate vicinity but it's a short drive to Windermere and there are some lovely drives to be had in the area.

Just returned from this site which is in a beautiful location with amazing views. We stayed on the Fell Side area and were lucky with our pitch which was flat and near a water point.

The park has excellent facilities, clean and warm toilets/showers with hot water at any time, a covered washing up area and a launderette. There is a smallish adventure playground, but our kids were happy simply playing in the stream and climbing rocks.

The on-site restaurant serves nice food at competitive prices and there is a children's menu. The shop is opened until 9pm and good for essentials like milk, bread, small camping supplies etc.

Our only disappointment is that despite other reviews and the campsites own 'rules' we did find the site noisy at night, especially after pub hours.

I'm afraid I must agree with 'LVol'. We'd received a call from Derwentwater C&C saying their pitches were too wet and I remembered seeing an article about Park Cliffe in a magazine. We thought if it was voted best in the north, we couldn't go wrong, and after a quick look round on arrival, we thought we'd made a wise choice. The place is beautiful, facilities excellent and the staff helpful. So why aren't we going back?

Well our first night was quiet and relaxing. Friday saw an influx of families with children, some of which were allowed to run riot between the pitches, climbing trees at midnight and shining torches in to tents, throwing stones etc. Next night a man was banging in a whole tents worth of pegs after 11. 30pm while I searched for foam ear plugs. Whilst an enormous motorhome was banging out the bass from it's sound system, I awaited the arrival of a warden of sorts to come and put a stop to the flouting of the parks own rules. It never happened. Nor did it on the next night. I don't know about the next night as we left early. You can have all the whistles and bells available to humanity, but If I can't get a good nights sleep, I'm voting with my feet. I recommend they charge a noise deposit or have a part of the camp set aside for those who have come to enjoy the nature of the lakes and not other peoples stereos, DVD's and shouted conversations or have other peoples kids kick football against the side of their tent.

We've just spent a very enjoyable 10 days at park Cliffe, so much so we have already booked up the same pitch for next year!

Location: The lakes is a beautiful area, our first time there and we found something to do every day whatever the weather. Our furthest trip afield was to Barrow in Furness, a bit of a let down but head out the other side and you find the gem that is Walney Island and its beach.

The only downside we found for the area was the parking costs. The location of Park Cliffe is a bit off the beaten track with a dodgy turn off the main road but the area the site is set in is gorgeous. I also have to point out that the roads are very narrow, as a runner I found it very dangerous to run on the roads, the back roads and the main road. Take care peeps.

Facilities: Everything you'll need. A bar with reasonably priced food and beer, small shop for the essentials but we preferred to make sure we had everything when we were out anyway. The games room is OK for the little uns and the stream is fine for a paddle but beware if it rains heavily as it does get a bit faster and higher. The pitches are more than adequate, electric never tripped once, toilets are always spotless.

Value for money: We spent around £270 for a 10 day stay, a bit more than you spend at some sites but this site is worth it. Also, by being a bit pricier than some sites it is a bit more exclusive with its clientèle! OK, I'm a snob but it works and we didn't see a single flag pole or washing line all the time we were there!

Customer Service: Second to none. All the staff are friendly and helpfiul. They helped plan a running route for me, lent us a groundsheet to place outside the tent when the ground got sodden, lent us mops and buckets to keep the groundsheets clean. Perfect.

Child friendliness: This is a bug bear of mine, kids need to be kids and not mollycoddled. Let the kids run around and be themselves. To this end I found the site to be great for kids. The adventure playground is out of the way, there's huge rocks for the kids to clamber over, the stream is actively encouraged for them to play in.

The bar allows kids in and has games for them to play whilst the adults do their thing. The site is well lit, there's plenty of speed humps which keeps the kids safe as they whizz around on their bikes or play football. Great place for kids.

This site is perfect, book early and you will have a great time here. Treat the place with respect and it will give you a great holiday, all the campers there respected the others and this makes it a fantastic place to spend time.

Excellent campsite, with great facilities, modern toilets and shower block, private bathrooms for use for £10 returnable deposit, excellent food at restaurant, nice smiling welcoming staff, well stocked shop. We had a really nice time here (6 days), with a pleasant relaxing atmosphere.

There is a great hill to walk up with the kids, with an amazing view at the top, and a good little playpark for them too, there is also a small amusement room if they get a bit fed up, and a small stream flowing through the site which is quite safe for them to play in.

You really need the car to go to any nearby towns, and I would head in early as parking is hard to come by later in the afternoon, unfortunately we came home from our holiday with a parking ticket.

Staff are very friendly and helpful, and we would definitely return to this site.

One thing to watch for, if it's your first visit and you are coming along the road from the Bowness on Windermere direction, it is a very sharp left turn into the road which takes you up to the site, so watch for the signs for Parkcliffe and indicate in plenty of time as we found we had to straddle the opposite lane to turn into it, and we were only in a car.

Other than that. Brilliant holiday at this site!

First visit to the lakes which are wonderful! Campsite clean and tidy, set in great location although not easy walking distance into Bowness / Windermere.

If you're up for it there is a great scenic walk from the campsite to Bowness. However there is a good bus service if you haven't your own transportation. At Bowness you can pick up the ferrys to various parts of the lake.

Toilets and showers are good as is the on site restaurant which has the added bonus of free wifi. Found pitches were small and fairly close together for campervans / caravans. Didn't appear to be any direct access from site to lake windermere.

Overall a good campsite

Just returned from a lovely weeks stay at Parkcliff. We were over the road from the main site, where EHU tents are situated. Had a nice view of Lake Windermere from our pitch (no 17).

The pitch was a nice size for a 6 man tent and was fairly flat. The EHU was however limited to 6 Amps. The one downside was the parking, it seems that the site has decided to add a few extra pitches at the end of the site road.

The result is that campers were constantly having to move their cars to allow others through. Add to this the steep gradients and large boulders protecting the tents areas and you have the potential for a bad accident.

The toilet and showers were always very clean and even at peak times there was always enough of both. The washing up facilities were excellent.

The bar and restaurant sold very good food with generous proportions and at very good prices, an outside seating area is available for those nice summer evenings. There is also a well equipped camp shop that is open till 9pm. The reception has a good selection of local attraction brochures as well as local maps.

The staffs were always helpful and tour the site regularly. There is a limited adventure play area well away from the tents and caravans and a lovely stream running around the main amenities block. The children had great fun playing in and around this as mum and dad wash up.

The main parts of the site caters for tents without EHU and for motorhomes and caravans. The pitches for tents are allocated on a first come first served basis.

A word of warning for those approaching the camp from the Bowness direction. The left turn is virtually at 170 degrees. You must go into the opposite lane and then go into the wrong side of the road! Also it is not advisable to walk from the site to other locations, it’s quite dangerous. Better to drive to a car park and then walk.

This is a great site with a truly relaxed atmosphere set in lovely countryside with easy access to surrounding areas

The staff without exception were very friendly and helpful. They do an amazing job, the whole site was very well looked after and we have never been on a site with such clean loos/showers. They do their job really well, the whole place is immaculate but they do it all in the most unobtrusive manner- very impressed

The shop was well stocked. Only ate in the restaurant once, pub grub in style, was okay but not amazing and very generous portions. The breakfast rolls are highly recommended.

There are lovely walks to be had straight off the site but here lies our only gripe. The stile that leads off the site is very high- the highest one we came across on any walk we did and with having bigger dogs we found it almost impossible to get the dogs over safely. Our labrador took a tumble which scrapped his leg badly so had to give up which meant all dog walks had to done off site- not ideal. A change to the stile would make it easier for all that want to use it, but as I said, it is our only gripe on a relaxed, friendly well positioned site

This campsite has every amenity you could need, very clean toilets and showers, well-stocked shop and food in the restaurant was good.

However, we stayed 1 night as a stop-off on our journey south, the night before the August bank holiday, and the site was completely full.

Although we had booked ahead, the only pitches left were on a steep slope and we all slid downhill inside the tent during the night!

Cost was £29 for one night for 2 adults, 4 children and family tent. We were not allowed to park our van beside our tent and had to leave it in a separate wooded area overnight (although many large 4x4s were allowed to park on site!).
