This has to be one of the best campsites we have been to for both cleanliness and value for money
The pitches are a good size (and we have a big tent)and the one we had was nice and secluded. The toilets and shower block were spotlessly clean and the showers were free - always a bonus.
The lady who owns the campsite if very friendly, accommodating and welcoming. Nothing is too much trouble.
There are plenty of rubbish bins around, bricks for barbecues and water taps within easy reach of any pitch you are on.
There is plenty of information available from the site with regards to places to visit, walks, pubs etc. There is even a local Indian Take Away that delivers to campers - and the food was delivered within the time they said, arrived hot and was very tasty.
There are hairdryers in the shower blocks which are again free to use, and a freezer by the washing up area for you ice packs.
We took out two dogs with us and as I said found plenty of lovely places too walk them.
Looking forward to our next visit

Had a lovely holiday here for half term. Spoilt slightly by a couple of loud family groups, but they did eventually quieten down by 10 - we wouldn't have noticed if we hadn't have had small children trying to sleep.
Love the way they have secluded all the areas with trees while still packing them in, but it does make it tricky if you have like us a large tent! We made it in eventually. This is a lovely spot and the facilities are fantastic.
Would recommend with no hesitation. Matlock does have road works at the moment though - so getting almost anywhere took some time!

Packhorse Farm was chosen by us to be the destination for our 1st family camping trip and we weren't disappointed.
We have an Outwell Nebraska XXL and it fitted very snugly on the jumbo pitch. There are pitches hidden amongst some trees that looked really nice. Electrical hook up wasn't a problem. Scattered about the place are quite a few 'Beer Garden' type benches which you can grab and put outside your tent which was a great touch. Bricks were provided to put disposable BBQ's on if required.
The toilet block was heated & well kept with it being cleaned daily to a high standard. There is also a Disabled / Baby changing room that has toilet / shower sink etc. The whole building looks brand new and was superb. To the side of that was the pot washing area which was also immaculate. Here we found a freezer to put our blocks, some local info with regards take away / pubs, some books, potable water tap and a box with some games in to keep the kids busy while you are fighting the canvas!.
The lady (Susan) that runs the site is very nice and approachable. As we were setting up she came round to have a chat and give us a little bit of local knowledge which is all very useful.
Lots of local attractions that aren't too much of a trial to get to such as Gullivers Kingdom, Heights of Abraham and Bakewell. Matlock has a great little Lido in a lovely little park, well worth a visit if its warm enough for the kids to have a paddle.
All in all a great site if you like the countryside and the sounds and smells that go with it!. It was great listening to the owl hooting away as we went to sleep!.
Only drawback was that there wasn't anything for the kids to do there, ie, swings, slide etc but to be honest, who needs it when there is so much to do in the surrounding areas!.

Great site, clean and friendly we had scorching weather.
Fantastic if you want to get away from everything.
Toilet / showers very clean and fantastic freezer for your ice blocks free to use.
My husband did complain that the male toilets / showers were very few compared to the female.
Pub and shop not 1m but 1 1/2m to 2m away they were just too far to walk to, you need to drive to them, that was the only down side.
They are small pitches.
The surrounding area was beautiful and matlock bath is a must, especially if you like motorbikes, Sunday's are amazing there. Chatsworth estate is fantastic, you recognise it as soon as you see it (off the telly). Many parks to visit in the surrounding towns and so much going on in them especially at weekends.
Would visit again.

We had a lovely holiday here in the Easter break. A very quiet and peaceful site - the pitches weren't huge but big enough, and clever planning meant it didn't feel crowded despite being full.
Facilities were excellent and frequently cleaned. We were warmly welcomed, as were our two young kids.
This is a perfect place to come with a young family, there's no playground, swimming pool or disco but I consider that a big plus!
I hope to return soon, and will recommend it.
Only downside was the cold but if you take babies camping in Easter you take what you get!
Matlock is a nice place, the Peaks are accessible and there's several friendly pubs within a few miles.
Great place to stay.

We wanted to get away from 'life' for a couple of nights. The weather before we pitched the tent was lovely. And the weather after we packed it all back into the car a couple of days later was lovely too. Everything in between was, well, very, very, very wet during the day and frozen at night. But, we did choose March. And, we couldn't really expect much else. I have never been camping this early in the year before, although the better half has, and I guess, when she said that I needed to take lots of warm and dry clothes, I shouldn't have just dismissed it and continued to pack my shorts and t-shirts. The humiliation of having to borrow her clothes to keep warm though will ensure that I do not make the same mistake again.
But, really this is all about the campsite. And, it cannot be faulted. The welcome upon entering the site (sorry, can't remember the lady's name) was very friendly.
The costs seem to be pretty much in line with other sites in the area and of the same standard. And, all showers are free after you have paid for your pitch. So, no having to fumble around for the 20p's.
The site is situated in the middle of nowhere. Well, that is not entirely true. But, it might as well be. You really do feel away from it all. Probably helped by the fact that I only noticed one other tent on the site with us. Even our Sat Nav couldn't direct us to the site at first (preferring to take us down a private road). We did hear a little traffic on the Saturday night from the nearby A61, but that was because the wind was blowing directly from that direction. In all honesty, it didn't bother us too much and the road is in fact about a mile away anyway.
The toilet/shower blocks (all free showers as stated) are fairly new. The water is hot (and needed to be) and the blocks seemed to be kept very clean. I know that with only a couple of tents on site it is easier to keep clean than in the height of summer with the full 50 pitches busy. There are a number of washing up sinks at the side of the block.
The pitches are mostly flat. We had an electric hook up.(£4 extra for the night, although I think there are only about 5 elec h/up pitches on site). The pitches are divided by trees/shrubs and the different fields by the traditional stone walls.
This is a campsite for you to get away from it all. There are pubs nearby. But, you do need to walk a little to get to them. There is a local take-away that delivers to the site, but we didn't use it. We went away without chidren this time. But, if we had the children, then there is not a lot on site to keep them busy. For example, there are no play areas. That's not to say that the site would not be suitable for children. It's just that you would need to be able to occupy them a fair bit.
There are also no on site facilities other than those mentioned. So, if you forget your food or need an alcoholic beverage (e.G. After being taken down a narrow track private road by a disobedient sat nav) then you won't find theses on site.
Matlock is about 10 minutes by car and Tansley village about 5 minutes.
We were very impressed with the site and will consider another visit. If you want a site where you can just escape for a while, then do give this a go.

This is the second time we have visited this site and is one that we would definitely return to.
The site is spacious, and the toilets, showers and washing up facilities are 100%.
The ladies showers and toilets in particular are spacious, clean and have separate showers along with separate dressing areas with plenty of room to hang your clothes up. Perfect for those ladies who like to 'glamp!'.
The location of the site is very handy for nearby matlock, matlock bath, and the heights of abraham. And we visited them all.
The plots are a good size and are flat. We have quite a large tent so there was plenty of room for an outside porch as well as our vehicle.
This is a site that I would definitely recommend.

Spent two days in middle October - cold and wet. Whilst there was only two other tents present none the less two things struck me. First the fantastic condition of shower and toilet block - exceptionally clean and the hot water was hot - no need to pay extra. Secondly some pitches had a wooden table and bench which made it a great change from lying in the tent. I intend to make this my base for all walks in the southern part of the Peak

Came to this campsite for two nights last weekend with my friend and her family and it exceeded my expectations. Everything from the warm welcome to the fantastic facilities! We will definitely be returning to this camp site. We only live about 12 miles away but it felt like we were 100 miles! Theres only one thing that I would like to see different and that is that either the caravan field allows children or caravans can go on the tent site so that people with children can go too. Personally I think that they would get more people staying in the caravan field if this was allowed as I know that most of my family was impressed with my photos but this small matter put them off.

We have just spent the busy august bank holiday weekend at Packhorse farm in Derbyshire with our touring caravan. The site is lovely and is situated on a picturesque farm which is in the middle of nowhere. Difficult to find but the lady of the farm gives great instructions to find it.
The caravan site and tent site are separated by a dry stone wall and are operated seperatly too.The camping site has snazzy toilets and showers which were lovely and warm.We used the campsite toilets and showers which I don't think we were supposed to do.The shower block for the caravan fields was very clean but old style and only had 1 shower each for men and women and 2 toilets each.
The farmhouse sells lovely fresh eggs and the owner is very friendly.
The caravan field is quite level and each pitch has loads of space. It is very high up so make sure the awning is pegged down well! There are electric hook ups
There are lovely ponies in the fields next door. There is a dog walk and lots of places to let the dogs run.
Other reviews of this site say that the village is within walking distance.I would say that it is somewhat too far and would be a real haul back up the hills.
There are shops in the village and a large sainsburys in matlock which is a few minutes drive away.
Do not go to the gate pub in the village,it doesn't look at all appealing and we were warned against eating there.
We went to the Royal oak pub (more of a restaurant)The food there is totally fantastic and excellent value. We ate there every night.I would recommend booking or going early as it is very popular.
All in all this site is a little gem. I hope that the owner adds a new shower block to the caravan field soon as this would make it perfect. It is well placed for visiting all attractions. We went to chatsworth and ilam which were great.
One thing to note. We were told that the caravan site was adults only. We noticed that there were a couple of children ? not sure about the owners saying no kids ?(not that we minded) I don't think this site is too great for kids anyway as there is nothing for them to do.
