We stayed at this camp site at the end of June 2007, (the weekend a lot of the country was flooded!) and had a great time. The weather didnt bother us much and as the site was right at the top of a hill we didnt need to worry about the flooding, unlike everyone back home.

The site was great, the tent pitches are all pretty secluded which was really nice, they were plenty big enough even for the car and a good size frame tent.

The site seems to run very well, with the owners usually around keeping the place clean and tidy. The lady owner even froze our cooler blocks for no extra charge.

The toilets and showers (pretty cramped showers) were extremely clean and are based in the caravan field, 1 min walk from tent field. However there is a new shower and toilet block being constructed in the tent field which I believe should be ready for summer 2008.

Washing up facilities were very clean also and located in a little wooden shed on the tent field. There was even washing up liquid provided.

We drank at one pub in Tansley and ate at another, cant remember the names! but both were nice, however food did seem expensive for what it was.

Matlock bath was lovely, with the cable car to abraham heights being the scarey part of the holiday.

Walks up and around riber castle would be recommend, although we drove to riber as it was awful weather the day we had planned to walk it.

All in all a very nice site, definitely on our list for a re-visit.

Just back from 3 nights at Packhorse farm. Really just want to echo most of the other reviews here. Its a very well kept, tidy campsite. Tents and caravans are kept separate. The camping field is quite attractively laid out, with trees to give some privacy. The caravan field is more open, but it does look like they cut the grass with nail-scissors !

The shower block is small, and the showers very tiny, but water pressure/temp was good, and they were free. Also, despite only being 1 shower it was not busy. There is a new block being built, but this is now scheduled for completion in 2008.

Its a bit of a distance to shops/pubs, but if you've a car then only a couple of minutes. We had a very nice meal at G&Ts by the bridge in Matlock, and a barbeque (the site provide bricks to place under disposables)

Lots to do in the area, the only downer was that being July and England, of course the weather was pants. However, the site is flat and well drained and even after a day of persistant rain there was no puddles on the pitches that I could see.

Its a quiet site and probably not suited to large noisy groups (if they would take them) but overall I would recommend this site, and would go there again.

Lovely peaceful site, the views are lovely. The owner lets you pick your own pitch, asks you to pitch with the site marker central to the rear of you van, then later on she calls to you pitch to make sure you have done this ! (so be warned, make sure the marker is in the middle !) All the pitches seemed to be level, the one we picked was perfectly level. The tent area is seperate to the tourer section, and seemed to be laid out in what used to be a former orchard, or garden, the prettiest tent area I have seen for a while.

The only downside to this site is the toilets and showers, there are only 2 toilets and 1 shower, for each sex, the weekend we were there was not overly busy so it wasnt too bad. The owner could do with having a selection of tourist info leaflets for the area,as we had no idea of any local attractions,so I would research the area before you go. All in all a pleasent, peaceful site, if you want a break away from the rat race, you wont go wrong with this site, we will return (but only in the quiet season)!

Our friends took a tent and absolutely loved the site, area etc.  We've been here lots and they will definitely revisit.
Just thought it worth mentioning that a new camping field is to open for tents as is a new toilet / shower block.  Not sure when, the owner just mentioned its not quite ready.
We've all just spent the Easter break here.  The walk to the nearest pub is just a mile BUT uphill walk home - who cares after a couple of glasses!
Plenty of walks direct from site and we noticed quite a few people with cycles visiting too.

Just got back from Packhorse Farm and really enjoyed the stay!Probably a bit too far from civilization to walk but only a 2min drive down to Tansley and 5min from Matlock. The staff are really friendly and the campsite is well kept and very picturesque. We were fortunate to have the pick of the pitches when we arrived and picked a pitch tucked away at the back of the main camping field (no.13) that was very private with the trees surrounding. Think no.14 looks the best pitch on the whole campsite.
Only downside is the lack of toilet and washing facilities. There is 2 toilets and 1 shower cubicle for each building and the shower is really small! Can imagine it being quite frustrating when the site is busy.Good pot washing facilities and the farm on-site adds to the experience (the sheep in the barn woke us up in the middle of the night on a couple of occasions). Overall would definitely recommend this campsite too everyone and hope to return in the future.

This site is in a very picturesque setting but it is a good one and a half miles from civilisation. Pubs, shops etc can only realistically be visited using some sort of transport. We love a good walk but this site is just too far away from any facilities for us. We also had trouble with dog owners allowing their dogs to run loose unsupervised everywhere. We had to keep our awning closed to stop the dogs from coming in. This is quite a large site but only has one small shower block. There are only two toilets and the shower is so small that you have to open the door to be able to get into it. Although the site was clean and picturesque it is not one for us.

Went to Pack Horse Farm for our very first outing with our tent, the owners were very friendly. The tent field has some secluded pitches, we did not have a choice of pitches which made pitching our tent a stressful experience as our tent is quite large, having to resite our tent 3 times to ensure it did not hit the trees. The washing up facilities are under cover and very clean as were the toilets, I believe being cleaned twice a day. There is only one shower each in the gents and ladies which can mean a wait at busy times, they are free which I think led people to abuse the length of time they used them for. I would definitely use the site again, it is very easy to get to for myself and family to have a good weekend break.

As with Dodge we visited Packhorse farm at Bank holiday and found the site very nice. We liked the idea of pitch where you like (no regimented pitches here !). The downside was the lack of toilet/shower facilities which got quite busy. The owners were very friendly and our 11 year old made plenty of friends. They played around the site and seem to enjoy being on a farm. We managed to find our way round the back roads and avoided the A6 which was extremely busy through Matlock.

Just spent a week here in glorious weather - our first ever camping trip. It was busy at weekends but quieter midweek. There is only one shower, and two toilets for each gender, which are shared between the tent field and the two caravan fields, which is not really enough when it is busy. But the bathrooms are always clean, and the showers are free, although it is 20p for 5 mins on the hairdryer. Very hot water for pot washing is free.

The tent field has lots of fir trees so, if you are lucky, (which we were) you can pick a pitch which is really quite secluded. I was surprised how noisy it can be at night, even though people are just talking. Not too impressed by the group of 6 lads who arrived at 9pm, went out, then returned at 1am to have a loud, drunken and profane BBQ, but otherwise we had a really good time.

The site is clean and well kept, and is in a great location for tourist attractions - Crich Tramway Museum is recommended, Speedwell Cavern is not.

Haven't been to this site for a couple of years, what a mistake. It was lovely. We only stayed one night due to work commitments and the owner says leave the site when ever you are ready! No 12 o'clock deadline. The facilities are very basic but very clean. The site seems to have mainly long stay caravans (tourers) on, and all the owners with there vans were friendly.

The TV reception wasn't good but we didn't need it anyway but if you do you're best to park away from the trees at the top of the field!
We walked from the site took the first left at the end of the drive and down the hill towards Tansley (really pretty) then when we saw a footpath sign into some woods followed it, we ended up in Matlock at the Arkwright Project (old watermills) well worth the walk, we then walked into Matlock bath for fish and chips!

We also went to The Gate for a drink on Saturday eve (a good walk but we drove!) the owners are really friendly, we didn't have a meal but plenty were doing and they looked good
