The site is lovely and clean, toilets/showers are new as you can tell, they are cleaned in the morning but whilst we were there is was very wet and they got really muddy by night.
Nice touches like piles of bricks stacked up, to put bbq's on and table/benches for you to go and get.
Lovely owners, very friendly. Miss having a shop. Some pitches are grass-less and really hard.
Only draw back, and there is nothing they can do about it, it is close enough to hear local boarding kennels in the night and the dogs woke us up at about 1.30am!
As you go back into tansley there is a great pub. Go past the one on the right and keep going until you come back to the main road, turn left (right is to matlock) and it is a couple of minutes up the road, on left hand side, fantastic food and very friendly/clean.

Difficult to find. Once we had driven around a myriad of unclassified roads we stumbled upon a small sign which let us know we were in the right place. It was worth it though. Loved this site! Clean, well maintained, flat pitches surrounded by fields full of horses. Clean pot washing facilities with a freezer for your cooler box packs, clean toilets and showers with plenty of hot water. No play area for the kids but clear open spaces for them to run around and play in.
Two fields separated the caravans with hook ups and the tents with ample roomy pitches. Noise curfew was adhered to and we were able to get a good nights sleep.
No shop on site and slight disadvantage was the long walk (or short drive) into Tansley or even Matlock for pubs and shops. If you have kids though, it's worth going into Matlock as there is a great park with a lake of mini motorboats, mini train, playground and even a safe, clean paddling pool for hot days!
Friendly, helpful owners. Will definitely use this site if in the area again.

Lovely clean campsite. Toilet block was brand new and kept very clean - the only thing I would say however is that we stayed mid week and camp site was only half full - it may get too busy at the weekend.
There are two roads that lead to the camp site - one which is sign posted (after the Gate pub) and another further up the road (first left after the farm)but not signposted (except if coming other way). The second is easier to navigate particularly if you had a caravan.
Handy freezer available for ice pack freezing and nice new pot washing area - although the cold taps were a bit fierce!
Had Sunday Lunch at lovely pub in Middleton (20 min drive)called The Rising Sun. My daughter said it was the best sunday lunch she has ever had!
Overall nice quiet site with good clean facilities.

Good friendly site in beautiful Peak District. Good views over the countryside.
Grassy, private, level pitches set out in two fields. Most pitches are dotted in amongst trees at least on one side for added privacy.
Quiet in the evening which was wonderful and allowed our young kids to get to sleep quickly.
Good drainage as it rained a lot at night and the grass didn't get boggy at all.
Very narrow lanes provide access to the site, but don't let this put you off. There were plenty of vans on the separate van field which had no problems getting there.
The showers and toilets are cleaned once per day I think and are brand new. The showers are a bit of a pain because they take 2 or 3 seconds to come on after pressing the push-tap (which you have to do every 30 seconds or so), so every 30 seconds, you get 2 or 3 seconds of no water. Also, the showers are a bit hot for my liking, but small quibble there.
I think they are building a laundry area, but currently, the owners do not allow washing of laundry in the sinks.
The only small issue we had was that the pitches seemed to be re-used very quickly, so when we struck-camp, the grass under our tent had started to turn to silage and smelled a bit. Having said that, it is busy season.
Would recommend for a quiet break.

This is a nice quiet site in a beautiful setting. There was no noise past 2230. The site was relatively flat, and the campfield has a recently completed toilet block.
However, they didn't rest the pitches sufficiently, and when we left there was silage under our tent. Revolting. Some of the pitches were completely bare. The new showers were nice, but there was no temperature control and they were unbearably hot, and had poor water pressure. Dreadful water pressure for the washing up too. The nearest shop is in Matlock, over 3 miles away. There was a freezer for putting in ice packs (free) but it was always so full that nothing could actually freeze, even if you managed to fit your pack in.
Overall a site with good potential, if they can sort out these few small problems, but for £20 a night, I expected better.

A well run site, facilities good and still being improved.
Owners very very friendly and helpful.
Although a busy site (because it is good) some pitches are situated within the trees giving privacy.
Site is close to Matlock (great shops) and surrounded by beautiful countryside.
We did the Cuckoo summit walk (leaflet obtained from reception) and took in some great countryside.
Yes we would visit again.

Wonderful Campsite, Toilets and shower blocks first class clean and well kept. Tent pitches nicely set out in the trees with plenty of our feathered friends to keep you company. Only one draw back is the nearest pub is 20 to 30 minute walk away. Apart from that first class.

As our first camping experience we thought this site was great. Agree with all the comments on the site about the excellent toilet block. Other facilites were good as well e.g. Pot washing. Didn't find any problems with the pitches although we can't compare it with anything else.
The Gate pub in Tansley had good snack lunches and beer.
I would agree about trying to find the place it was a bit difficult, a big sign on the main road would help.
Enjoyed the place and area so much we now have bought a tent and are returning in August for a longer stay.

Agree with just about everything written so far about this site. However, the pitch we were on had only about 3' of soil, and then you hit rock - which I think was a type of sandstone. I managed to bend a load of tent pegs - although a trip to the local Yeomans where I purchased some 9' Ground hogs(?) sorted this out. I noticed a lot of the smaller pitches near the washrooms were among conifer trees - where the roots were on or near the surface. This may also cause a few problems with pitching.
There are also a load of picnic benches for use of the campers (free) but it is really a case of get in first as numbers are limited.
The tent site and caravan areas are completely seperate.
My only beef was the £2.00 a night charge for the pooch - there were no facilities to speak of for the dog (i.E. Designated dog walking area) although there was a plastic dustbin for the waste. The charge seems a bit excessive.
Regarding the potwashing 'shed', Byron is currently adding a proper facility at one end of the new washrooms.
Regarding the Gate pub - which is the closest - it is only a mile, but be warned the walk back is STEEP (about 1 in 4) for half the route, and it is pitch black so don't forget your torch. Barbeque food only on Sunday evenings.

We have just returned back from a weekend at packhorse farm and was very impressed by the site. The toilet blocks were spotless, warm and had free showers. The village of Tansley was beautiful and we managed to go on the weekend when the village fete was on. On the Saturday we were there it rained all day although the tent fields did not become boggy and everything had been really well thought out like the pot washing area so you didn't get wet through doing that.
10/10 for this site, it is the best site we have been on so far.
