Great camp-site nice and clean and well maintained. Very friendly owners. Toilet/shower blocks very clean (showers very hot) lots of washing up sinks. Very short drive to Matlock where you can get your shopping.
We went with our grandson aged 2 1/2 years old and to make our stay a little better would have been some sort of play area with climbing frame or swing, but this is not an negative comment.
Lots of good walks to be found and a few nice pubs in close proximity to the site. All in all we had a great stay and would return.

Went for a weekend camp, four in our party; two adults and two children (under 5's). They had different small fields with pitches separated by hedges. Some pitches with EHU some without.
The site also had a motorhome sections. Owners were really friendly and helpful. Eggs available on site and takeaway delivery if you want it! Really really impressed with the facilities. Very clean, and always had loo roll. Free hot showers, free hair dryers.
Disabled facilities were great too. Had a well organised pot washing area. Bricks for BBQ's. There were a lot of families, however if you wanted a quieter area this this wasn't a problem as all the areas were quite private.
Very very impressed. Would highly recommend it and definitely be going again. Great value for money.

Just returned from this very nice campsite, myself, husband and dog. We pitched on plot 2 which was a good size for our Outwell bear lake 4 and car. Some pitches were bigger, some smaller and some under trees therefore you should let Susan or Byron know the size of your tent when booking. The campsite is a working farm and the owners are nice people who you see buzzing around the place. The site was lovely and clean as too were the showers and toilets. The showers were push button and only lasted a very short while before repressing the button, also the showers are very hot and have no regulator. There are 3 showers each in the male and female toilet block, there is also 3 cubicles for washing in each block and a hairdryer which only lasts a minute or so. We never queued as the site only had 4 other campers on it during our 4 night stay, hence very peaceful. There are 5 undercover pot washing sinks and plenty of bricks for standing your BBQ on. You do here some traffic noise and yes I heard the dogs at the nearby kennels barking but I am a light sleeper and I only heard the dogs on one night before I fell asleep. You do hear sheep, horses and owls too which is nice. There is a nice dog walking area with poo bin along the drive into the farm. The cuckoostone walk runs past the site but we did not do the walk as it was a little too overgrown with nettles. However, we did enjoy the lovely walk to the lumsdale waterfalls which, are great and takes about 40 minutes to walk to from site. You can go to the falls by road but the walk through the woods was great for the dog she loved it.
There is a great pub (The Gate) within walking distance about 25 minutes down the steep hill very nice food and value for money, they welcome dogs and even provide water and a treat. The pub also has a beer garden, games room, free wifi and children's play area which we did not use. There is no shop on site but you can buy fresh eggs and milk. There is a large Sainsbury's in Matlock near the train station for all your other items.
Places we visited Crich tramway museum is value for money, we spend a good 5 hours here, lots to see nice walks and very dog friendly. Cromford canal is lovely for walking along and has a nice tea room. Matlock has some nice shops, lovely walks and places of interest. We ate at the Black cat cafe in Matlock as you can take your dog in and the owner is helpful recommending some dog friendly places of interest too.

We have just returned home from a weekend away at this site after making a call to susan and asking if the had EHU for us at last minute which was great.
This is a well maintained campsite with fantastic facilities great showers with free hot water and plenty of it an undercover washing up station and a freezer for ice blocks it a great little touch, lovely well kept campsite with lighting to find you way in the dark, local pub a short walk down the hill looked lovely but we didn't try it. The pitch we had was ok but not really what we expected we didn't have enough room for our front extension this was pitch 46, but we just didn't put it up so the pitch was ok in that we adapted to it.
Couple of points I would add is that you can hear the main road but that cant be helped. But I think when it states quite in the evenings 9p. M. It should be adhered to as we stick to the campsite rules, it's a respect thing large groups getting drunk till quite late on doesn't make for a peaceful break away.
One other point there is no on site shop which is a bit of need as sometimes you don't want to have to drive offsite to pick up bits.
A children's play area would be great as lots of parents spent lots of time shouting at there kids which breaks the peace and quiet of the site.
Bakewell a short drive away the steam train ride was quaint, Morris dancers a plenty in bakewell worth a visit.

I was pleased to see the improvements made at Packhorse Farm Campsite since last year. Susan & Byron have added 44 Electric Hook up points, the site in the past only had six pitches that had EHU. This site is for tents only, but camping has moved forward & many campers now enjoy the benefit of EHU. The site & facilities are keep to an immaculate standard that I have come to enjoy, we used this site every year whilst we visit family in Lee Bridge, always during the first bank holiday in May. The Facilities block was built in 2008 & it is just as good today as the day it opened, washing up facilities were added three years ago, they are under cover with plenty of hot water, always well maintained & cleaned such a credit to Susan & staff. The site is well positioned for Matlock, Matlock bath, Bakewell, chesterfield & the peak district.
We are campers of many years, I put this site in our top ten best sites, I wish Susan & Byron every success for the future, keep up the good work. I highly recommend this site & will be visiting it hopefully for years to come.

We only live local to this campsite but it could be anywhere in the UK to us, it's is absolutely beautiful and we first used it a few years ago and come to it a few times a year now.
Susan the owner is fab, she is really helpful and chatty.
We are glampers now and do love our electrics and to our amazement Packhorse now has 44 electric pitches to choose from, we are about to make our second visit this year already!
It really is great and is only 5 minutes from the town of Matlock where we live and has really great transport links to towns and cities as well as a nice Sainsburys.
For me there isn't anything to criticise, please give it a try!

This was the first time my wife had been in a tent camping and our choice of this site for this was spot on. This is a beautiful campsite with very nice owners, great pitches and a nice clean shower/toilet block. We had a EHU pitch (Pitch 3) which had a verge either side which provided privacy. Even though there were children on site they were quiet and well behaved. First night was quiet with just us and 2 other tents between our 8 pitches, however the 2nd night was nearly full with 7 pitches taken but our fellow campers were great.
The whole site is well laid out with lots of privacy over 3 fields with some path lighting at night. Pub is about a mile away (the Gate Inn) but be warned! If you walk there it is a steep climb down to the pub. So after a meal a few beverages its an even more interesting one coming back! However it is worth the walk just for the beautiful scenery alone.
A site we will be visiting again very soon!

We had 3 nights at Packhorse Farm with my motorcycle.
The couple that run the site gave us a great welcome and offered plenty of advice.
You can get milk and eggs from reception.
The toilet/shower block is spot on, kept very clean with plenty of hot water.
Most of the pitches are on a slight slope, the grass is well kept with hedges for a bit of privacy.
The electric pitch we had was fairly small but didn't concern us with a motorcycle. It would have been a bit tight with a car.
The only negative for me, which has nothing to do with the owners, is the small road from Tansley Garden Centre to the site.
It was in poor condition with grass growing in the centre and the outside edges crumbling away.
No big deal in a car but quite tricky on two wheels.
All in all, we had a very pleasant stay at Packhorse Farm.

I visited Packhorse Farm on the spur of the moment as I wanted to see Lumsdale Waterfalls. I was made to feel very welcome the owners were aware I am a single female and a bit nervous of camping on my own but they suggested I pitch my tent opposite the shower blocks and I felt very happy with that. The site was very clean & tidy, toilets & showers were also spot on. You can buy milk, eggs on site but not much else. There was a walk to the waterfalls which the owners helped me with, also the walk down to the Tavern Pub where the food was great. So in all I had a fantastic weekend and will be staying there again hopefully very soon

Just stopped for two nights
What a gem of a site well laid out well thought out
Plenty of trees and hedges for cover and protection from the wind witch can get blowy as your high up on the moors
Matlock not far away so to stock up on essentials
Great for cyclists and ramblers plenty to go at
Showers toilet block spotless maybe a little shelf in showers apart from that perfect
Only noise we heard was nature itself sheep in fields horse neighing and birds tweeting will definitely be returning
