This was our first visit, first of many weather permitting, and a last minute one as the sun decided to shine. The site was flat, well laid out, sheltered and broken up by very nice hedging; a fantastic location. The owners were very helpful and the eggs very tasty!
The toilet/shower block was clean, free hairdryers and private sink units; I have never seen those anywhere else and what a good idea. The showers were roomy and very warm. Loved the idea of providing bricks for BBQs. We will be back.

We have now stayed at Packhorse Farm three times in less than a year which I think says a lot about the campsite. In July 2011 we had a family holiday, three tents with an age range of 4 - 80 (the people not the tents). September 2011 with Hubby and son and then this month with hubby and son.
The site is split in two with the first area having pitches in trees and the EHU pitches, then there is a larger open field. In the tree area some of the pitches are small so if you have a big tent you will be put on the field. All pitches are numbered but not marked out, apart from those in the trees where the tress mark the pitch area.
The toilet block is fairly new and was clean at all times (except for the muddy boot marks but that can't be helped). The toilets were cleaned each day and if you went in just after they were spotless. In the ladies there are four toilets, three showers, three sinks in cubicles and three sinks in the open. In July the site was full and there was a queue for the shower in the morning. I had my shower at about 4. 30pm and the place was empty.
Although every pitch was taken when we stayed last July it still didn't feel full. September was much quieter only about half the pitches taken and in April just 5 which dropped to 2 by our last night. There are 5 washing up sinks and even when the site was full we didn't have to wait to washup. By the sinks is a freezer for ice blocks, we really needed this in July but in April my ice blocks stayed frozen as it was so cold!
The owners are very friendly we had a chat with them on our most recent visit and discovered that the toilets empty into a reed bed which we were impressed with. New for 2012 is a catering van, not open when we were there but I am sure it will prove popular.
There is a circular walk that goes down the farm drive called the Cuckoostone walk and you can get a leaflet from reception.
In terms of noise you can hear the Chesterfield/Matlock road and there is also a kennels nearby so some barking as well. But it is no noisier than many other sites we have been to.
I think three times since last July tells you what we think of this site and we will certainly be back again.

We stayed overnight and were lucky to have beautiful sunshine.
In the evening we ordered an Indian take-away and it was delivered - not a brilliant meal but was better than nothing as we were not prepared for being a long way from any eateries.
The site is on a working farm, they were very friendly and it was immaculate, the shower blocks very good with lovely hot showers.
I would definitely recommend the site if you just want peace and quiet and we would most definitely go back again.
I can't really rate child friendliness as it isn't a specific child friendly site i. E. With play area etc.
If your children are happy with basic then it would be 10/10.

Stayed here for 1 night in the snow. The Old lady was very accommodating, even to the point of boiling her kettle to defrost her outside tap so we could fill up with fresh water.
Very nice site, 2 toilet blocks, only 1 open while we were there. Heated and very nice indeed. Very quiet too. Only 1 1/2 miles to Tansley but be warned no shop as we saw but three pubs.
Nice walks to be had too. We walked into Tansley and had a coffee at the Tansley Tavern.
We will definitely use again if we are in the area

Had a quick weekend overnight stay here and only booked the night before but we still got a really nice pitch in amongst the trees. Site is divided up nicely so it feels quite small and initimate, although there is a larger camping field at the back.
The toilet and shower facilities looked very new and were kept relatively clean given that the site looked quite busy and I never had to queue.
The location is lovely and it was very quiet, only a short drive to Matlock and Matlock Bath. We didn't get a chance to do any walking so couldn't comment on that but the surrounding countryside was beautiful.
The washing up facilities were clean and undercover and there was a freezer for iceblocks. Overall a lovely site which is well worth a visit.

Just spent 3 nights here in late September and despite having a good time we have mixed views regarding the site.
The toilet / shower block is modern and immaculately clean. For the layout of the facilities see their website.
It depends on what you are looking for, but for us there were two downsides.
1. The nearest pub is 1. 5 miles away but it is down a steep hill and the walk back feels like 2. 5 miles.
2. The pitches are too close together. Depending on the size of your tent there may not be room to park your car.
If they made the 50 pitches 20 it would be almost perfect, but the owners advised they have many return campers so this obviously doesn’t concern others.
7/10 site for us and would return but only for a week day stay out of the main holiday period.

Wow what a little gem. This site is great. We had a pitch with EHU close to the Facilities, which had loads of space and very flat.
The facilities were excellent, very clean. The ladies had 3 showers, 3 wash hand basin in a separate cubicle, and 4 toilets, with 3 other sinks, hubby said the gents had 2 toilets, 3 showers, and 2 wash hand basins in separate cubicles, again he said very clean. Loads of hot water, with push button showers. This is the only camp site I have been on with FREE hair dryers in the ladies.
The owners were great, and very friendly. There are lots of information leaflets in reception for things to do in the area. There are also fresh eggs for sale.
There is no play park on site, but yet there is plenty of space for running around and playing (not ball games)
There are no bad points at all, this is a site that we will be returning to soon.

We've (2 adults and 2 children 4 and 1) just returned from a six night stay at PackHorse Farm campsite. We had a fantastic time,
The toilet block and showers were excellent and so clean. The pot wash area was also kept spotless with hot water. The use of the freezer for ice packs was a great help.
Susan was very friendly and helpful throughout our stay.
We also had a key for the baby changing area which had an electric shower that could be removed from the wall and the temperature adjusted which was ideal for cleaning our younger daughter who is used to having a bath.
Some people we talked to would have liked there to be a children's play area, but we found it an advantage to there not being one, otherwise our four year old would have been taking off all the time. She did make lots of friends without a playground.
All in all we would recommend this site and we are planning to return at Easter time 2012.

Just returned from this camp site following a short 3night trip with wife and 3 kids.
This was our first outing in a new tent so wanted something local.
Owners where friendly and easy to deal with originally only booked for 2nights but extended our stay with ease.
The reception has plenty of things to do leaflets and there's a local Indian that will deliver to your tent.
The site itself is tidy and well laid out, with the cleanest toilets, showers and pot wash area I've seen for a long time.
Freezer available for ice packs, free showers and hairdryers in the toilet block.
Would definitely visit again.

Arrived at the site without a booking, to stay for one night. The owners were very accommodating and found us a pitch with electric hook up.
The Gents shower block had three sinks, one shower and two toilet cubicles and my wife says the Ladies was the same. I am very fussy when it comes to this particular campsite facility and can say that I was very impressed with the condition and cleanliness.
The cost was £16 which I consider to be very reasonable. The field we were in was level and each pitch very spacious.
I would certainly re-visit Packhorse Farm if in the area again.
