Fantastic. We visited on the May bank holiday 16 of us in total. The children loved being able to play without us shouting them back every 2 mins. Its safe and off the main road. The toilet blocks are kept clean and fully stocked with soap and toilet rolls.Mr & Mrs Hayne are a nice friendly couple and have made their site lovely. We enjoyed walking while we were there and found several good walks locally.
If you don't fancy cooking you can pop in to Matlock for Fish & Chips which are very nice or you can have indian delivered direct to the campsite.
We enjoyed it that much we have book again this week and 9 of us are visiting at the end of June.

Just spent the weekend there, and was very impressed. Good level ground and very easy to pitch tent in as soil very clear and no rock in. New toilet block excellent, with good hot free showers. Good washing up facilities too. Was right next to toilet block, which was good for kids late night visits, although as a little noisy with doors banging late at nights, but that was my only grumble. Good pubs dotted around area, would recommend `The Gate' in Tansley, landlord and landlady were very friendly and helpful and food was great. Matlock Town a short drive away with plenty shops/supermarkets and a lovely park with minature train, moter boats etc. Recommend that the owners of campsite maybe look into investing in a childrens play area, although our eldest boy had no problems playing with the other kid on site. Would definitely return.

Warning study maps and directions before you go . . . My sat nav directed me the long way down Foxhole Lane . . . Very tight turns - one way only width and pot holes . . . Many unmade up roads in this area so a wrong turn can mean hard driving!
We went with another UKCS member and had adjoining pitches with EHU - I found the pitch size adequate in our section but would not say generous - the owners are great and we were invited to use empty pitches to park our cars. Without very careful planning it would be hard to avoid pitching guys into next space in the area we used. I have a reasonable size tent approx 7.5 by approx 4m . . . But did manage to get by easy camp annexe alongside. There was not clear space between our tents and guys and certainly not 6 metres between main bodies of tents.
Entertainment is DIY on site but this is the best camping. Children enjoyed mud rolling and puddle sitting. It is a good job the showers are free. A word of warning the children did find the hot water a tad ?ouch?. Make sure you take crocs or some other plastic type footwear as in bad weather the shower and toilet cubicle floors are muddy . . . . Doormats would be useful! Liquid handsoap dispensers and hairdryers provided!
Washing up area lovely, two proper sinks and bins provided. This is housed inside a shed with useful info on the walls. Hot water is Very Hot! Cold tap has normal tap but the hot tap is push-down device so a bit fiddly to get hot water into bowl. Note to other campers going . . . Please clean sink out when finished . . Not nice to be greeted with congealed sink with remains of other campers? dinner.
Bricks provided for disposable BBQs. Recycling bins for paper and glass. Noticed a lot of people were putting recyclable waste in normal dustbins, tut tut!
The owners are very friendly, helpful, mobile number for contact out of hours.
We saw a few hot air balloons, appears that a nearby field is used as take off site. We
Didn't notice traffic noise noted by another reviewer but we had a little rain to drown that out!
Visited Heights of Abraham and Bakewell as well as nearby Yeoman tent display between Matlock and Bakewell. This area has gorgeous scenery and some very interesting long steep hills . . .Make sure the clutch on your car is in good health!
We are definitely going back to this site. Recommended.

This site is probably as perfect as it gets for my money.
The facilities are exactly what I'm looking for on a camping trip. Level pitches, clean toilets, hot showers, hot water for washing up, space for children to run around. I can't find anything to fault it on really.
The area around is as you would expect very hilly, and the nearest shops aren't very close so you do need to be prepared to hop in the car if you need anything but that's not so bad is it! We didn't sample the local pubs.
Yes, I've remembered, the only thing wrong with my visit is that we couldn't stay longer! But we will be back!

Great site tucked away above the town of Matlock on a small working farm.
The facilities are excellent and modern, considering the size of the site they are one of the best we have come across. Pitches for all, some are tucked away amongst conifers others in a more open field with great views of Derbyshire, but all are level.
There is a local pub (The Gate) about a 15 minute walk into the village and Matlock is a 10 minute drive where you will find pubs and eateries to suite all.
You won't be disappointed with this site.

Very good!
The site is nicely arranged with pitches feeling quite private.
The toilet/shower block is great - obviously quite new, and well equipped. I was impressed enough with the washing up area (with actually hot water!) but the showers and toilets are definitely worth a visit.
You can buy fresh farm eggs from the house here (when available), but no real 'shop' on site.
All in all, a great site, but may not go back due to the travelling required to get to anywhere else. The village is about a mile, but no shop, so you have to go in to Matlock. It's really not very far, but in reality you have to drive.
There are some pitches with electric hookups, but not all (about 10 out of 50 I think).

This is a lovely site. It is well cared for and the facilities are immaculate. The owner's are very friendly & helpful. Matlock is only a short drive away and there are a couple of pubs not too far from the site but we did not test them out. Will definitely be returning to this site, but next time hope for better weather!

Lovely quiet site with generous pitches in a beautiful area. Tents share the very clean toilets and showers (free and hot!) on the caravan field until the new block is finished, which is scheduled for next year. The washing up area is immaculate and recycling facilities are available. The on-site owners are very friendly, contactable by mobile number if any problems occur when reception is closed. They are going to expand the tent site once the new toilet/shower block is open. The first night, we noticed some road noise from the nearby A632, which is the Matlock to Chesterfield road, but this was not unbearable, and hardly noticable the next night. Nearby attractions include the Heights of Abraham, Gullivers Kingdom and from September to October, the Matlock Bath Venetian Nights (decorative illuminated boats on the River Derwent and entetainment/small funfair). A very pleasant site which is highly recommended.

Went to this site after checking UKCampsite.co.uk and was exactly as I had expected.
The owner was very friendly and helpful. Our family met together and consisted of 2 tents and a motorhome and she kindly let the motorhome onto the tent site so that we could be together.
There were only 2 toilets and 1 shower for the males and the same for the females. I was up early and had no problem with this. There is a new larger toilet block being built for next year.
There is no shop on the site. This can be a bit of a pain if you run out of milk, and in fact the shop in the Village had closed down as well.
Was a bit remote for walking into the village but on the plus side was quieter because of this.
Pubs are about one and a half miles away. Went to the Tavern and didnt stay long here as someone wanted a vegetarian meal and we asked if they would give us egg and chips but said we had to buy ham egg and chips and refused to just cook an egg and were very unhelpful. But there are two other pubs in the Village to choose from.
Brilliant for visiting Matlock and all the amenities there, the heights of Abraham was well worth a visit.
A nice little site especially for those wanting to get away from it all.

A really good site offering good sheltered pitches. The showers and toilets were kept very clean, however there is at present only one shower in each of the blocks. There is one being built at the moment to update this problem. There are no amenity`s on this site for children other than open spaces. The only other downside is you have to walk at least 1 and half miles to nearest pub but once you are there the meals are more than adequate. All in all a lovely place to visit and the owner is very pleasant and helpful.
