Just returned from our first visit to Elm Cottage. What a fantastic site. The site is immaculate, from the toilets and showers to the very large field for camping. There is nothing bad to say about this site.

Thw Owls are a amazing, its very different.

The site is close to a road, but after being there, we have to say that the road is not an issue.

The staff are very helpful, and provide a good shop, along with plenty of information with regards to local places to visit.

Will be returning to this site as the kids loved it.

We stayed here for 2 nights for our first trip in a touring caravan, site is very easily accessible, quite close to where we live so perfect for our first trip,

Site is lovely and clean, toilets/showers are immaculate. We camped here a couple of years previous but found it quite noisy near the main road, didn't have this problem in the quieter caravan area and obviously in the caravan.

There is a pub a little way from the site, probably about 15/20 mins walk at a guess, we didn't spot any other shops etc locally,

We drove into Winsford about 10 mins drive away as we had forgotten our duvet, found an Asda here which sold all the usual things.

This was our first visit to Elm cottage and definitely wont be our last.

On arrival we were met by the owners and staff who were extremely helpful and polite.

The site was busy due to being bank holiday weekend but did not feel overcrowded or noisy.

The facilities are excellent. Toilet and shower blocks were immaculately clean. The Owl Garden is a very nice touch, our children loved visiting the owls everyday. The site grounds are very well maintained.

The on site shop was well stocked and very reasonably priced. Would recommend the homemade marmalade and lemon curd! We were able to order a daily newspaper which was put outside the shop for us to collect every morning, lovely touch.

There is a dog walk which was ideal and a lovely walk.

This park is ideally located with lots of attractions nearby. It maybe on a main road and on a flight path but the road noise really didn't affect us and my 2 year old loved watching the planes fly over.

This site definitely deserves their 5 star rating. We enjoyed our weekend break so much and cant wait to visit again.

This was our first outing with our new caravan, so we didn't want to go far and Elm Cottage is just 12 miles away from us!

On arrival the staff we so helpful when we mentioned this was our first outing. We purchased a gas bottle from them, which a member of staff fitted for us.

They even came over to make sure we were ok. Nothing was too much trouble and they made our first outing a lot less stressful and trouble free! The site is great and really well kept. The toilet block was very clean. Our 3 year old loved visiting the owls.

There was a well signposted do walk and dog bins. Yes, there is traffic noise, but we were right by the road and it didn't really bother us.

Visited Elm Cottage during an August weekend so the site was fairly busy, even so there was no problem reserving a pitch the day before. The site was very easy to find and is next to the main road. Because of this it is there is road noise until very late.

The rally field, used for tents was large although the grass was long in most places which was very wet in the morning and walking to the toilet block wasn't pleasant. The facilities were very good.

The toilet block was small and the showers compacted, which made showering a challenge and getting dressed more of a challenge. The shower floor was also grassy as previous users didn't clean after themselves. The other facilities were excellent and the staff very friendly and helpful. There is a small shop on site and there is a supermarket in Winsford 3 miles away.

One point to note is that the site is on the flight path for Manchester Airport so there are low flying planes throughout the day and evening.

Our first experience at camping, and a very enjoyable one too!

Very welcoming on arrival, ask if you'd like to order a newspaper for the following day. Explained clearly where we needed to go, along with a list of 'conditions' and an information leaflet and then you're guided to the camping field and advised which areas you can pitch in. An excellent sized camping field, with a well thought out, clearly signposted 'dog walk' within the perimeter.

The small shop within reception offers a small amount of goods you may need, and they even sell ice! They offer an 'icepack' loan facility whilst yours are freezing overnight, 50p for two.

Lovely clean dishwashing facilities, toilet block and showers, all well lit by the eco-friendly lighting. A recycling point, and plenty of water taps on site. For those who wish to use disposable Barbeques, they even have a plentiful supply of bricks to borrow, no nasty scorch marks in the grass!

The 'Shrewsbury Arms' Pub just down the road, offers great food, 2 for 1 on the main meals, and not too far to walk home, although don't forget your torch as no street lights!

The road can be a little noisy at night if you're a light sleeper, but nothing a pair of earplugs can't block out! If you do stay here with small children bring them a football, a frisbee, a skipping rope, etc to keep them amused as no playground on site, but plenty of room for them to run round and enjoy themselves in the fresh air! The way we used to!

We will definitely stay here again, an exceptionally clean site

Our first visit to this campsite, failed in comparison to the many other sites we have visited throughout the UK over the past few years! Knowing we had young children, they placed us in one of the closest pitches to the main road, the noise was relentless, 24/7 lorries

Especially. A gap in the hedge allowed access to the reception area from the camping field, but was about 10 yards from the main road, with children's safety in mind perhaps a gate would be wise! Most staff were accommodating and friendly! Reception was generally unmanned and locked, but there was a bell to ring for service. Facilities were very good and clean, the owl garden was also good. I felt we were constantly under scrutiny as some of the staff were also camping in the field, didn't feel the children had any freedom. The grounds were constantly being groomed, grass cutting etc, which kept the site neat and tidy, pleasing to the eye, but if as much time was spent on customer service, this may have been a more pleasant experience!

Don't think I will be back! I suggest if you are booking this site with children, ask to be placed far away from the road!

Just returned from another weekend at elm cottage. Everytime ive tried to book the site, even on a friday morning for that weekend they have so far always found me a pitch.

The site comprises of a small reception / shop, a field for caravans with EHU and a much larger field for tents, more caravans and rallies. You can also hire out the farmhouse if you fancy B & B. There are two rooms you can also hire out for functions. The site is child friendly however they will have to make there own fun as there are no swings or slides.

There is an owl sanctuary which you can go and have a look at. Just at the side of the field is a dog walking area which seems pretty big.

The toilet block is very eco friendly with the usual push button showers and toilets. The elsan point and dish washing sinks are located in the block as well. The staff are very helpful and friendly. The site encourages re cycling. There is an air line if you need to pump up your tyres.

Locally there are a number of farm shops and larger shops ie asda morrisons. The shewsbury arms pub is a short walk away ( 10 mins ) with very good and reasonably prices food ( 2 for 1 offers ) Oulton park race course, delamere forest and blakemere centre are within a couple of miles with Chester about 13 miles away. Wi fi is also available on site and TV reception is very good.

The only down side is that it is close to the main road and can be a bit noisy at night. Some noise can be heard from Oulton park but if you like motorsport it should be no problem. I've got very fond of this site and will be returning soon

We selected this site for our first weekend in our folding camper as it is so close to home we were able to go back for the dogs after we had pitched!

Others have mentioned the road noise,it is noisy and it barely stops throughout the night. We were pitched right next to the road, but I was told that this would be the case when I rang to book, so I am not complaining at all. If you were pitched further away from the road, or took ear plugs I don't think it would be any kind of problem. In my opinion everything else about the campsite more than makes up for it.

The whole site is immaculate, grass kept at just the right length, clear pathways, very nice toilets and showers with plenty of space in the shower cubicles. There is a reasonable dog walk (wouldn't exactly tire out a gundog, but more than enough for our greyhounds!) and bins for doggy do bags! Everything is easy to find and clearly labelled, without that horrid 'rule everywhere you look' feel that some sites have.

The staff are friendly and helpful, they made sure we were okay to pitch without any further help then left us to it. The little shop sells bread and lovely home made lemon curd!

The tent field is huge, with loads of room for everyone, my daughter enjoyed meeting up with other children and playing a variety of games there, there was a very laid back atmosphere and some very nice views from the tent field. We didn't go into Winsford town centre, but I know there is a decent range of shops there and a big morrisons on the edge of winsford.

We did use a good take away (from campsite turn left towards winsford, first exit off first roundabout and it's a few minutes down there on the left, next to a chinese that we didn't try!) we had some guests and between us sampled a variety of pizzas and kebabs. I thought they were very good indeed and so did everyone else judging by the lack of left-overs!

There is lots to see and do in the area - tourist info brochures in the porch by the shop.

Finally, the owls! They are amazing! They just add that little something, it's very quiet in the little garden where they are and somehow you stop noticing the road in there!

All in all a good site - fair prices £31 for 2 of us and 3 dogs for 2 nights inc EHU - I will take my ear plugs next time, but I am pretty sure there will be a next time!

We have been to several very clean sites all over the UK since we started camping 6 years ago but none cleaner than this one. Top marks. We were there for 11 nights and the very high standards never dropped. Toilets, wash basins and showers were all excellent (ample hot water, bright and warm) but are limited in number.

The site was strangely quiet for all bar one night (when the camping field population increased maybe 7-8 fold!) and needless to say, the limited wash facilities were somewhat busy the next morning!

This site is easy to get to (being located on the side of an A road - some pitches will certainly hear the traffic) but is not particularly handy for anywhere except perhaps Chester - approx 10 miles away. It was an hour or so to Manchester, Liverpool, West Kirby (best beach?) etc.

Perhaps this explained why the site was so quiet? A nice selection of Owls on the site but we think their cages could (and should) be much bigger. Excellent thoughtful hosts and very reasonable prices. All in all 8/10. More loos etc and it might have got a 9. Handy pub (5 mins walk on proper footpath) - very good.
