Thoroughly recommend this site. Stayed 5 days, chose it because of good reviews, proximity to Cholmondeley for the Pageant of Power. Its also near Oulton Park motor racing circuit. Found lots of interesting villages & towns nearby e. G. Knutsford,
Saw craft shops, farm shops, Anderton Boat Lift etc.
Pitches are mostly hard standing. Our super premium pitch also had a waste drain, mains water, rubbish bin and picnic table.
The shower block is modern, lots of free hot water, and unlike the Caravan Club sites cleaning happens after lunch not when you want to use it after a lazy morning! Beautifully laid out and kept with lovely grass, plants, flowers and shrubs.
Aviaries at the rear house several species of owl.
The proprietors are cheerful and very helpful. Newspapers are delivered to order, and Friday and Saturday nights they fry fish and chips too! We will definitely be back.

Well we've just come back from our Jubilee Bank Holiday break to Elm Cottage which is our second visit in less than 12 months. Excellent all round. Welcome on arrival. Clean, organised and very well set out with 2 areas one for caravans and motor homes and one for tents. All central to the toilet blocks which were very well equipped and the wash up areas, laundry room and plenty of water facilities around.
Great Fish and Chips on a Friday and Saturday nights! This is a must and we will definitely be back again.

Had to write review on this site as it is our favourite local site. Toilet and shower block is fantastic, always clean and tidy and warm. The owl sanctuary is a lovely little extra added to the site.
Pot wash is indoors which makes a change and they even supply a pot rack for draining.
This is a fantastic site and all staff are wonderful.
Only criticism I would make is that there should be more electric points.

I don't write many reviews, but felt the impulse to write one having returned from Elm Cottage.
What can I say but Excellent!
We were greeted with a warm and efficient welcome. How refreshing it was to see staff around with a friendly smile and hello each day. Nothing was too much trouble.
The site was immaculate. Everything was in its place to ensure our stay was comfortable.
Wifi and a large dog were added pluses. No play area, but that suits us fine [even though we have a five year old] No play area = peaceful! Lovely walks and runs nearby. Quiet, relaxing and easy access to explore Chester and the surrounding area. Highly recommended.

Just got back from this site after a weekend stay. Two adults and a ten year old. The site was exceptionally clean, recycle facilities for rubbish.
Plenty of showers/toilets/washing up facilities.
The pitch sizes if you have hook up in the rally field were not massive ( our tents 5 meters wide and fit snugly) we were on pitch two which was quite flat, some other the higher numbered pitches did look on a slope.
No play area which we new before we went but plenty of open areas for the kids ( not for flying kites as it does tell you in the reviews due to live wires over the site.
The road noise can be heard but didn't bother us, the noise from Oulton park also through the day.
The wardens were extremely friendly.
We would visit again.

Camped here for 4 nights with 4 friends and 11 children between us!The camping field was huge and mowed a lot and was very safe as our ages of children ranged from 3 - 13years.
The site was very clean, showers and toilets immaculate and cleaned regularly.
The little shop on site was ok and reasonably priced however there was an Asda, Aldi approx 5mins by car away.
The launderette was very good and if you don't have any soap powder with you you could buy 2 tablets from the on site shop for 25p!
We also had fish and chips from the on site fryer (open friday saturday)which were nice and saved you a night cooking, also we found a local chinese who would also deliver to the site for £1.
Overall a really good site the only thing lacking was a playground, however this was probably reflected in the price.
Would camp again.

Just returned from a week at this immaculate site. We arrived at 11am and the wardens allowed us to pitch, they were very friendly and great with the kids. They do a wonderful job keeping the site immculate, from the first class facilities, to the grounds, and Owl garden.
There is a slight bit of road noise that you can hear from the pitches with electric, but nothing to worry about.
There is a Frydays fish and chip van every Fri/Sat, also a little shop for the basics.
There is a laundry that is very good if you need to do any emergency washing. Along with good washing up sinks.
No need for a play park as the kids make there own fun, and all play together, in the middle of the field.
There is a Asda and Morrisons within 5 miles of the site.
Chester Zoo is about 30 mins away, with several National Trust places very close by also.
A lovely site with first class facilities. Will be returning again next year for our third visit.

This weekend we stayed at this site for approximately the 10th time however this was the first time with our new to us caravan. Previously we have stayed in the rally and camping field with our Orchy 600, this time we were on the touring field with the caravan.
In terms of service nothing much has changed in the four summers that we have been visiting the site, the amount of work put in to keeping the site nice by both the owners and the wardens is clearly evident.
The site has a touring field that is reserved for caravans only, this comprises of a mixture od hard standings, grassed pitches with gravel strips for wheels and totally grassed pitches. These are not the biggest pitches in the world but are immaculately kept. The grass is cut nice and short, the borders are well maintained and the hanging baskets are blooming! Along side this is a rally/ camping field which has recently been marked put with numbered
Itches where previously it was a park where you want type of filed- this can only be considered an improvement as the marked pitches are extremely generous. The last time we stopped here we had an orchy 600 with an front extension and car and room to spare on our allocated space - lovely.
On site there is a heated shower/ toilet block with free hot showers which is well maintained and kept clean and well stocked. The block also houses a wash up area with an abundance of free hot water, a small token operated laundry as wel as fresh water, Gray water and elsan point.
The shop is well and thoughtfully stocked and open late. Newspapers are delivered daily and can be ordered on arrival. A chippy vAn is available I the evenings on a weekend.
Other facilities on site include a motor home service point.
Some reviewers have noted that there is no children's play area, however there is plenty of space for children to amuse themselves in the centre of the rally field without bothering other people, so I don't see this as a minus point.
Locally here is plenty to do, Delamere forest is a couple of miles away, Oulton park is a short walk, most of the best visitor places in cheshire are within driving distance as are Chester, Manchester and Liverpool.
There is a spar shop a few minutes away ( turn left from the campsite, take the first exit from the small roundabout then bear right and it is on this road next to a petrol station ), and asda is not far ( turn left out of the site, turn right at the 1st round about, left at the second, straight over the third roundabout then take the next right where the sign posts indicate a shopping centre).
Nearest caravan and camping shop is known locally as harringtons and is just a couplle of miles away. (turn right out of site, straight on at the lights then take the first right by the fish pool inn pub, right at the next junction and it is on you right, beware of fixed speed camer on this road).
There is a pub within an easy walk from the site but if you have time then the longer walk (couple of miles) in the same dire tin will find the fish pool inn which is extremely popular locally for both food and beer.
No review would be complete without mentioning the very reasonable site fees. It must also be noted that there isn't a huge list of extras to be paid for on top of your pitch, dogs and awnings go free!

My husband and I stayed here for two nights on the way back from Somerset.
The site itself is very clean and tidy with the facilities being well cared for and never dirty in the two days we were there. The reception has a small shop and you can get basic groceries and order papers. A very good selection of leaflets are available from the doorway in the shop that cover the whole area.
However I have to say that the caravan pitches are very close together on the main site. We stayed on pitch 9 and it was on a slope. If we wanted to put up an awning it would of been very difficult. The car had to be parked on the offside of the caravan and if we had the awning up then the next pitch would not be able to park their car next to the caravan.
Traffic noise from the very busy road started at five in the morning with wagons going past quite fast and rumbling on along the road.
Traffic seemed to calm down a bit but got busy again at tea time. The exit/entrance is on a slight slope and the view down the road is impeded a bit by the hedges so extra care has to be taken when leaving the site.
Veiws across the countryside from the main site is limited with only a view north, the high hedges block the other ways. The rally field is a nice big field and views from there are great.
A good dog walk and if you are into owls then a treat is in store because there is an area where you can view them in the Avery. There is a Discover caravan centre a few miles away and not hard to get to.
I would not come back myself but would not dismiss the site to anyone else.

We stayed in mid July on a '5 nights for the price of 4' break.
The site was immaculate, everything was clean and tidy, from the little shop, to the showers and the washing up area.
The electric pitches on the camping field were all on a slope - we picked the flattest available, but we still had to 'sleep downhill'.
The weather was glorious, we had a couple of days out in Wales and the scenery was spectacular.
Plenty to do closer to the site if you want to - walks and such. Didn't get to try the chip van as we left on Friday morning.
Would definitely go again - DH went to see the owls every morning and evening that we were there!
