I spent seven nights at this site over the Easter break, it was quiet and peaceful but did look a little like a building site as they were building a brand new toilet block.

For a couple of days it was just my grandson and I and a big field for him to run round on.

The site is clean and the owners Chris and Chris are very friendly and helpful.

Winsford is only a short drive away with two supermarkets and everything you could want.

The owls on site and the chipmunk were lovely and kept us entertained for hours.

A lovely place I will be back like a shot. I love it there.

We have just spent two nights here and despite it being on a main road wasn't noisy and on a plus side easy to find. Only met the owners on arrival and they were very friendly. Facilities very clean but with only two toilets and showers I could imagine it being a very busy area in summer. This has been aknowledged by the site and there is a new block being built at the moment and due to open easter 2008. There is no playground but this is not a problem for a weekend as there is so much to do for days out in the local area. Leaflets a plenty in the reception area.Pitches very spacious and there is a gravel area just outside the door of your unit. As mentioned in other reviews the pub down the road has excellent food and is very welcoming to children. Take a torch if you are walking down as there is no street lighting on that stretch and it is very dark. Would definitly use again, reasonabvle fees for a family of four and awning at £12 per night.

We visited Elm Cottage for one night on our way down to a festival this summer. It took us longer than expected to get there and so we arrived quite late, but the owners were very friendly and welcoming.

The site itself was neatly laid out, and the facilities clean and functional. Again, the owners were great, even lending us their own towels for the shower as we'd forgotten ours!

A small shop keeps essentials on site (including newspaper ordering), and there's a huge camping superstore a couple of miles' drive away for anything else you're likely to need!

The owl garden is lovely, with a range of beautiful owls on display.

The local pub is nice and cosy, with a range of ales, although quiz night was on when we were there so it wasn't the most relaxing.

We'd booked a second night for our way back, but we were forced to leave early due to the floods and so had to cancel. But we'll definitely stay at Elm Cottage again in the future.

Great site with really helpful people running it,we used it for our first trip in our new van, toilets and showers were kept spotlessly clean at all times.Shrewsbury arms pub was really friendly with good food and also made children welcome. Will definitely be using this site again.

We went to this site and found it to be great. The facilities were very clean and showers warm and free. It was reasonably priced at £10 per night per tent. The owners were excellent, very helpful and did not come around checking up on you like many other sites. All in all we had a good time and would definitely visit this site again.

My wife and I stayed for two single nights, as a stopover point on our way to and from North Wales.  The site is ideally suited for that, but it is also a good site for a longer stay, as there is plenty to do locally.  As we had our dog with us, we found the dog walk very useful - it is long enough to allow a dog to stretch its legs, and wide enough to keep dogs apart if necessary.
The toilet and shower block was a little behind the times, but was kept in spotless condition, and had all that was needed.  That is not a complaint, by the way!  The main caravan site is quite small, catering for around 20 units, but there was plenty of room  for all.
Considering all the rain we had in June, the site drained very well, allowing a car to pull a caravan off the grass without any problems.  The owners (the two Chrises) were very helpful, even to the extent of lending us an extra power lead, as the hookup was too far for ours to reach.  As has been said before, the small shop has enough to get by on, and the ability to order a daily newspaper was very useful.  The site has all the facilities necessary for comfort.
I would recommend this site to anyone going to mid-Cheshire; it is inexpensive, and very good value for money.  The Shrewsbury Arms, a quarter-mile along the Chester road, serves very good food, with good service to go with it.  We found that a boon, as I do not think it gives my wife a holiday if she has to cook.

Stayed at this site for the early may BH.  What a peaceful site.  Spacious pitches.  Toilets and showers clean.  No playground but a great camping field with loads of room for kids to run.  Good dog walk.  Nice little owl sanctuary on site that you can look round.  Newspapers can be ordered daily.  Not over crowded.  Reasonable rates.  Close enough to visit Chester, Zoo and  Jodrell Bank both worth a visit.  Near to Winsford shopping area.  Pub about 200 metres away.   Couldn't fault it.  Definitely will be revisiting.

Just spent a great weekend on this site. First time out in our trailer tent, Chris was very helpful with set up and even lent us a longer lead for hook up. Lots of hanging baskets and planters, grass all neatly trimmed, toilets and showers very clean, site is very attractive, even has it's own Owl sanctuary. Shop is small but has all the basic requirements, daily papers by pre-ordering. Cannot fault this site at all, will definitely return!

Very clean site, very organised, and owner friendly and sociable.
A part of their garden that you are allowed to enter contains aviaries of the most beautiful owls, that pose on perches just behind the wire, for you to photograph them! There is a decent view of fields and woods to one side of the site. It was very windy on my first day there, but I pitched my tent near the hedge on the western side of the site, where I was sheltered. The pub is just 5 minutes walk along the road outside (I took a short cut over a 5-bar gate in the corner of the camp site) , not the greatest range of beers maybe, and the food is certainly not haute cuisine, but it is sufficient.

The site is ideally situated for visiting Crewe, Manchester, Bridgemere Garden World etc.
The site has two major downsides as far as I am concerned: there was constant traffic noise throughout the Friday night, building up again from 5:45 am on the Saturday morning, and I hardly slept a wink. It's a long straight stretch of road, and you hear the tyre noise of each vehicle for some time. Saturday night was much quieter, with no "rush hour" on Sunday morning.
Secondly, in spite of the £10 a night charge, the facilities are inadequate. The gents was cramped and contained no urinal, just 2 toilets, 2 handbasins and 1 shaver socket. There is one gents shower in the entrance to the block, and a unisex one. There was a rally with about 20 tents on the weekend I was there, something I had hoped to avoid, without them there would have been just 3 tents. On the Saturday morning, when I needed to get ready, I sneaked into the disabled washroom and used that. I would have liked to have "spent a penny" before I went out for the day, but every time I tried, everything was occupied, so I had to cross my legs.

We stayed here as part of a group in the Rally area. Everything was excellent, the hosts were very welcoming. If you are thinking of having a rally, the barn is excellent and great value.
The shop is also very reasonable.
All in all, one of the better sites I have stayed in. Toilets and showers are clean, everything is relaxed and they have some great owls!
