Having just stayed at this site for the second time I'm a little bit disappointed.

The site facilities appeared to be over stretched with the bank holiday bookings, despite the very best efforts of the staff the toilet block was often grubby and smelly, probably due to the number of people using them - the situation improved greatly after a number of people left on the Sunday. Hot water seemed to be running out - luke warm showers with little water pressure and no hot water left in the new block for washing up on more than one evening. In defence of the owners and staff they seemed to be constantly cleaning the facilities although it was clearly a losing battle at times, and were friendly and helpful at all times even offering help move our tent away from the extremely rowdy family who dominated the rally field during the weekend.

Good points - the well stocked shop, friendly helpful staff, amazing views of Cheshire with Jodrell bank's dish clearly visible and of course the owls who live on site. There are many attractions within easy reaching distance and plenty of opportunities for forest walks in nearby Delamere. The site is possibly the nearest campsite to Oulton Park and the owners kindly allowed us to leave our tent up until after the race events on our last day which was brilliant - meaning that we were in no rush to be packed and the tent was nicely dry before it landed in the car. A limited amount of electric hook up are available on the camping field for early bookers.

Bad points - some of the camping field is close to a busy road and ear plugs are recommended, the opposite end of the camping field is sloped in places, it would appear that the site and facilities are easily overwhelmed on busy weekends.

The acid test - would we return? Yes we will be back due to the fact that our first time at the site was brilliant. On that occasion it provided a lovely peaceful haven at the end of a long days excitement watching the car racing, however we will in future be avoiding bank holidays.

First camping trip with the wife, and it was perfect, the best site I have been to. Toilets were spotless, staff were friendly and the site was perfect to our trip to Oulton park. The site is of a very good size with most of it level.

Will be going again!

This was our first visit to elm cottage. We will be back, very nice site very clean and tidy. New toilet block within easy reach from our caravan. However the site is laid out so everything is within easy reach.

I had to wait twice for a shower ( there is only three in the mens ) but we did go on a very busy weekend the first of the season.

My two kids loved it though youngest is five and all he did was ride his bike around and around all day, my eldest 17 and once she got wifi access she got a smile !

To recap the site was the best we have visited (3rd) since owning our caravan site owners are very pleasant and very approachable, price was very good, site was spotlessly clean. However more showers would of been nice and maybe a little play area for the kids.

We stayed here for 1 night to try out our new caravan. We couldn't have picked a better site! The owners couldn't have been more helpful, and the shower block was absolutely immaculate. There wasn't anyone coming after us so we were able to take our time packing up, always a bonus when you have 3 children.
Our older children (aged 8 & 6) would have preferred a play area but as we were only there for 1 night it wasn't too much of a problem. They were able to scooter freely around the site & the huge field behind us enabled them to play ball games. All in all it was a good start to hopefully a successful season of caravanning.

What a little gem this site is. It is fairly compact but it doesn't feel so. The whole site is immaculately kept.

The new toilet and dishwashing block is lovely with its underfloor heating and smart look. It is kept very clean by the site owners who work tirelessly to maintain the high standards.

There is some road noise from the A54, which is perhaps the only down side. I would not hesitate to stay again when in the area.

There is a pub a short distance away (shrewsbury Arms) which has good reviews, though I did not have chance to use it. Handy for Delamere forest which is a 5 - 10 minute drive away. Also Harringtons caravans (Discover Leisure) is 10 mins away for any accessories you need or if you fancy a browse at the latest model caravans!

This was our first visit to Elm cottage and we were very impressed. The site is very clean and well looked after with an excellent new shower/toilet/laundry/dish washing facility.

With the site being relatively small the traffic was very light and so made a fantastic cycle track for the children to ride there bikes round the caravans. The other people using the site also seemed tolerant to the children playing as more and more kids joined in!

Our kids were fascinated with the owls on site, especially the Eagle Owls which are very impressive close up.

I believe the site would benefit from a children`s play area although there are lots of attractions locally such as Peckforton and Beeston Castles, Oulton Park, Candle Factory and Cheshire Ice Cream Farm to name but a few.

This is the second time that we have stayed at this site, as it's in a brilliant location and has everything we needed. There are excellent showering facilities and toilets. We've never had any problems with noisy neighbours, as the field is so large.
The top of the field does get some traffic noises during rush hour, but didn't bother us. 20 mins from Chester Zoo, but the best day out we had was at Crocky Park (reception will give you details) - Just go prepared to get wet and very very muddy.
Pub down road does great food and try Elm Cottage's home made lemon curd.

This was our first stay at this site and would like to say how much we enjoyed it.

The site is clean and friendly, the toilet block was spotless, the grandchildren loved the owls.

There was a lot to see around this area but the ice-cream farm is a place not to miss, the pub down the road is the Shrewsbury arms, it serves great food (and plenty of it) and is not expensive.

We will visit this site again

Suggestion; a playground area would be a good idea

 Fabulous site!

We have been coming here for the last 2 years with a rally - a group of about 30 tents.

Last year we thought that the site couldn't be improved, and lo and behold, this year we get an excellent new loo and shower block!

Chris and his team are very welcoming and did their utmost to help us out whenever we had a problem.

We will be booking again for next year!

Just to add to the other fantastic reviews really, the campsite was clean and tidy and loved the HEATED TOILET AND SHOWER BLOCK, complete with hairdryers! This was an ideal site to visit with our little girl on her first camping trip and also for my husband who was rather worried about the facilities before we went. The huge green area was great for the kids to play on and the owls were a hit with us all. Pub down the road served good food reasonably priced (we all ate for @£23) places to visit; must go to the Cheshire Ice Cream Farm, Beeston Castle, Candle Making Place, you can visit these places in one day due to the close proximity of each other. Chester Zoo is also a must, but Blue Planet Aquarium quite pricey! Look out for the Chester Attractions Leaflet in reception which includes money off vouchers, we got into the Zoo and didn't pay for children thanks to these vouchers!

Looking forward to going back next year!
