We looked for a site near to Oulton Park Raceway and seriously looked at three. This was the dearest, but it also had the type of facilities we wanted.

On arrival, we were greeted by a lady in the reception and booked in with no problems. She is very friendly and made us feel welcome. Pitches are numbered, so with our motorhome, we could leave the site and come back to the same spot.

We opted for a grass pitch with EHU at £23. 50p per night. Our pitch may have been grass, but the wheel tracks were solid gravel. This made it easy to park and took away any danger of getting stuck if we had heavy rain. We were given a map of the site with our pitch circled and asked if we wanted papers for the morning. The shop, although very small and in the reception, had the few essentials including local bread (mmmmm!).

Although child friendly, it is not really a site if your kids have to have things prepared for them. No club, no amusements and no swings and slides. That made it perfect for the two of us. The kids that were there played outside and respected others privacy.

One of the things we did think was a lovely touch was the Owl Garden! I don't know the story behind the owls, but there they are in aviaries in a small, private garden. Although private, the site have a sign on the gate encouraging people, kids included to go take a look. Again, the kids here that we saw, even without adults in the garde, were great and no problem to the owls.

The toilet block is probably one of the best we have ever seen! Geothermal and solar powered, fully insulated and heated. Best thing though, no matter what time of day you went in, they were always spotless. Because of the way they were kept, it would seem that everyone who used them for showers, washing or the toilet facilities, respected the block.

When we arrived, we did mention that we were going to Oulton Park. We asked about the possibility of walking and they produced a map and marked out a safe and beautiful walk through the country park.

This site has taps for fresh water and a drain for grey waste. The drain is well designed and makes the task of getting rid of your old washing up water very easy. There is a small area built into the block for emptying toilet waste. It is well designed and easy to use, there is even a shelf for the toilet tank cap, so you don't lose it down the drain.

There is also a motorhome service area. Park the van on it and open the drain taps and away goes the water, grey and clean! Obviously the Black waste goes in the toilet area disposal. There are also taps for filling with fresh water.

So to sum this stay up? Brilliant. Great staff, great site, great facilities and they even kept the good weather there for us! Would we go back? A resounding yes from us both!

We found this site to be very welcoming and the staff very friendly. The site is quiet, well kept and clean and caters for all types of campers. Ideally situated to visit the Cheshire countryside (Chester 20 minutes away by car), with a very good gastro-pub within 500 metres. There are many National Trust sites in the area within easy reach, for the kids there's an Ice Cream Farm and Theme Pa

We have just returned from a lovely weekend at Elm Cottage Touring Park, the experience start to finish was excellent.

Our check-in was met by a couple of wardens and the lady in the shop. The lady in the shop was a little impersonal, but hey you can't knock people's individuality and their personalities - everyone is different, and she wasn't unpleasant. The wardens were excellent, chatty and very personable, and buzz around the site on a Segway (which is REALLY cool!)

We'd booked in with my parents, pitch 24 and 25, and the site had no objection with us swapping so our 2 year old daughter would only run onto our pitch, and not a random neighbour.

The pitches are excellent in size, but the course underneath is exceptionally hard. We ended up buying some pile-driver pegs from the site shop to get through. No issues if you've already got them, but we didn't. These were exceptionally reasonably priced at £13 for 20. Once pegged out, we were set and had a little explore of the owl garden - which is a beautiful touch to the site.

The pitches were good location - close to the amenities block (but they all are). The amenities block is excellent. Geothermal space and underfloor heating, and powered by Solar - not only is it well kept and tidy, it's also environmentally friendly. The Chemical Toilet disposal is also brilliant, a side room with a shelf for your screw cap, and tiled edging around the bowl. A lot of thought has gone into every aspect of the site.

Location is excellent, so 10/10

Site Facilities are lacking in something for kids - it doesn't claim to have them though, so a 9/10 for not having anything, but not lower because they don't claim to have one.

Value For Money - was perfect. 10/10

Customer Service I can't fault - 10/10

Child Friendliness - 8/10 because of a lack of anything to do, per-se (not lower because of the Owl Garden).

Overall Rating 9/10.

Excellent work Elm Cottage, keep doing what you're doing and we'll be back! Thanks

Just had a weekend at Elm Cottage. This is a nice site, very clean and well maintained. Shower blocks are clean, the showers are the push button kind. I did think at first the water pressure in the showers was poor but then I heard a pump kick in and there was plenty of pressure. There is a garden that has some owls in aviaries to look at. Plenty of information/leaflets at the reception.

The Shrewsbury Arms is 400 yds down the road and I had a couple of pints of real ale which were nice. We ordered some food, I had a ploughmans lunch and my wife had scampy and chips in a basket. We were a bit disappointed with the food to be honest although it wasn't expensive.

The only down side to this site for us was the traffic noise. We were on pitch 13 (unlucky for some) which is at the very top end of the site with a wardens pitch next to it and then the site boundary to the A54. The A54 is a very busy road with national speed limit. Traffic is passing all day and night and I was woken a couple of times by articulated lorries thundering past in the early hours.

We did have a nice relaxing weekend but the traffic noise did spoil it for us and that would put us off going to this site again as there are quieter sites in the same area.

Not the kind of place we would normally stay at especially bearing in mind the price but we needed somewhere near Delamere for the weekend. Had we done our homework we could have stayed the pub nearby for half the price but without showers. Not a problem if you use your van. I really cant understand why its so expensive but alas we paid for a one off.

Good points:

Clean facilities

Clean tidy site

Nice place for small families for a night or weekend.

Handy for Winsford or Delamere Forrest

Good pub nearby 5 minute walk

Site shop selling essentials

Not so good points:

Adjacent to a busy road

Expensive pitches, £27 per night (noisy pitch 15 next to site road)

Five pound a day internet is an obvious liberty as it costs less at home for a month. Its free at the pub.

Power lines and pylons for a view overhead not so nice

Been past this site hundreds of times and, seeing as we left it late to get a pitch for the bank holiday, we decided to give it a go. Really pleasantly surprised with how clean and well organised the site is. We got pitch no 1 which had just been vacated and the grass was almost bowling green standard. My wife and I took our daughter (15) and her friend with us and they're really wasn't much to keep them entertained (apart from watching us trying to suss out the awning without any instructions!) However, the birds of prey were impressive and the rally field made a perfect place for the Frisbee. A worthy mention are the shower facilities with heated floor - excellent! My daughter picked up a menu for a local Chinese takeaway (Winsford) which was open on the bank holiday Monday and very good it was too (about 5 mins from site by car, near to Tesco Express) We enjoyed our 2 days very much!

We've just spent a weekend at Elm Cottage, and enjoyed our stay. We're still relatively new to caravanning, and this was the furthest we've travelled for a weekend trip from our home in Hull.

We were visiting Coronation Street The Tour in Manchester, and found this site online. It was around a forty minute drive to the attraction from the caravan park.

We chose a pitch with water, electricity, drainage, picnic bench and dustbin. We only use super pitches, as our caravan as an onboard water tank, so it's the only way we do it really. The pitch had everything we needed, but was closer to the adjacent pitches than we've had before. Not a major problem, as it was a very quiet site. We ourselves have children, but we're always respectful of others, and don't let them run disturbs others. There wasn't any playground facilities, but we let them play with a football on the Rally field, as no ball games are allowed on the touring field. Understandable rule, as I wouldn't want kids kicking balls near our caravan.

I didn't use the facilities as I showered and used our own caravan toilet for the weekend, but my Wife said the on site facilities were good.

The site was very well kept and tidy, and it was useful having a dustbin on the pitch itself.

The owners were friendly on our arrival, giving us a site plan to find out pitch. The touring field is compact, with low level lighting around the site.

There is a pub not far away, but we never visited it, but it was certainly within walking distance.

All in all an enjoyable stay.

Very nice small site, complete with Owl sanctuary.

Well looked after site clean and tidy.

Only down side was 10amp electric.

Found this site to be very attractive not too big but the facilities were excellent. They were kept clean and tidy. The welcome was friendly and advise given was good. Shrewsbury Arms about 400yds down the road, serves good wholesome food with great service.

The pitch I had was very close to Toilet block where everything was conveniently marked.

Excellent all round site, highly recommended.

We camped in our 2-man-tent, with Yorkshire terrier, the last weekend in Sept. Really enjoyed our stay. Really can't fault the site. Very well maintained. Facilities of a 5-star hotel. Showers( hair dryers a bonus), toilets, recycling, and dish-washing. Other amenities on site were a small shop and freezer facility.

We only went for two day break and never took advantage of the local attractions, however, the area is beautiful. Winsford is five minutes away with Tesco's and numerous shops. Some nice looking wine bars, which we couldn't take advantage of due to our Yorky. We also had a take away from The Balti Cottage, which was excellent.

The only downside is, it is a little bit noisy, being next to the main road and Oulton Park. Try and camp away from the road. But, it never stopped our enjoyment or sleep.

We would definitely go back again and intend to.
