Just back from a very enjoyable weekend stay at Elm Cottage and have to say it was lovely. Stayed in a tent on the main field - 4 adults and a toddler. Tent went up fine (only a few stones to contend with!). Facilities were all very clean (very important!). We found the disabled/parent toddler room SO useful! Accessed by Radar key (available for £10 deposit returned on departure if you don't have one), and it was superb facility. Belfast Sink to bathe babies/small toddlers, then general wet room with walk-in shower, all the usual grab rails, wet seat etc. Made our stay much easier! The rest of the site very clean and tidy too. Laundry room (washer, drier, ironing board - all available at a small charge), recycling facilities, dish-washing room etc.
Site was fairly busy but we had no problems with using facilities etc. Small shop for essential basics. Owl garden lovely. Well kept gardens / flowers/hanging baskets etc. Regularly saw staff collecting rubbish etc.
Only real downside was the road noise ~ unfortunately it is on a busy road and you can't really avoid the traffic noise. Might have been a little better at the very far side of field but then further to get to facilities?! Not sure how that could be overcome - maybe take ear plugs?!
Other than that, a lovely stay and would use the site again. :)
P.S. Blakemere Craft centre well worth a visit. Winsford 'town' - don't bother! only 10miles to Chester.

A great site - the facilities are the nicest I have come across for years! The toilet block was clean and warm with a separate male/female section with plenty of toilets and showers in both.
There is a really nice indoor area for washing up with two sinks and hot water and a laundry room with washing and drying facilities. The site is really well laid out and although we do not have a dog the separate walking area for dog owners round the edge is a really good idea. The grass pitches are cut which is really good if it rains because the ground drys out quickly. It must be a well drained site because although it had rained quite a bit before we arrived we did not have a problem with mud.
We took 2 children under 6 with us and they loved the site - particularly the owls in the garden at the back of the toilet block. There are plenty of attractions within a close drive of the site - We had a really good day out at Beeston Castle and Chester is not too far away.
Some reviewers have noted how close the site is to the main road - which it is - but while I am usually really sensitive to road noise I hardly noticed it and it did not stop me sleeping!
The site is well signposted and easy to find. We had a great stay and it is on my list of places to go back to.

Just got back from visiting Elm Cottage.
A long week end stay with my wife and son and his friend (5th July).
What more can you say about this camp than already has been said, A cracker of a small site very clean , Toilets spotless and in easy reach of the shops and places to visit , Chester , Winsford to name a thew.
What a family friendly site and a price to match in these hard times.
I would recommend this site to anybody who wants a relaxing short break or longer with lots to do around the area.
We will visit again soon !

ON arrival this site was perfect, with clear booking in facilities.
Then we went to pitch our tent.
Disaster!
Heavy winds made it near impossible to pitch our tent and we ended up in the 'non pitched area' - ha ha
However when the winds calmed down then we set up our pitch and enjoyed the scenic views over the Cheshire plains.
Great facilities on the site including VERY CLEAN toilets and showers, and also a lovely Owl sanctuary for the kids to enjoy.
Lovely big field for the kids to play in and dirt cheap too.
Recommended site IMO for anyone wanting a 2 night break away from the hassles of Manchester/Liverpool and surrounding areas - such a lovely site to visit and will deffo return again in near future.

What a pleasant surprise. We had to change our plans for the wekend almost at the last minute. The wife phoned this site on the off chance and we were offered a pitch with EHU on their rally field as they'd had a rally cancel on them. Turned up on Friday evening, got a friendly welcome, and shown to the field and given a couple of choices of where to pitch. No marked out pitches, so whilst we saw later arrivals try to squeeze in to spaces which wasn't necessary, we had loads of room with space for a pub tent, and we could sit and watch the world go by. Toilet block was immaculate, but what struck me most was how well kept the site is, with attentive wardens. When I asked what time did we have to leave on Sunday the answer was by 4pm. Apart from some traffic noise, this is probably the best quality non-club site we've stayed at. I'm sure we'll go again.

We have just bought a tent for the first time, and the girls (10 and 14) were uncertain whether they would take to camping, so we chose this site as it was close to home for an emergency evacuation if things went really pear-shaped, and because of the good reviews. We could not have got it more right!
The site is immaculate, and the proprietors work hard to keep it that way - constantly tidying the surroundings, replenishing the paper towels and loo paper (even at 10.30 at night)- yes the toilet block has paper towel and loo paper! No more crossing the field with a tell-tale toilet roll! We found the toilet blocks to be always clean and well stocked. Hot water was plentiful. As first timers (well, first for a long time) we were given good advice by the proprietors, which was really helpful. There is a well stocked shop with all the emergency last minute items you may have forgotten (such as a 12v air bed pump! Oops!). Not forgetting the owls - they are amazing.
The field was well kept and we had a good amount of space on our pitch to feel comfortable. The dog walk area is a great idea. The road noise was a bit intrusive on the first night, but it is amazing how quickly we all acclimatised - and that goes for the 3.00 am cockerels, the snorting horses, the dawn chorus, and the barking dogs (not any on the site who were all well behaved apart from one of ours who found being in a tent to be a challenge on the scale of the Great Escape!)
Nearby there is a small town with 2 supermarkets, takeaways etc. There is a small local pub (Shrewsbury Arms) close by with great home cooked food. Another is a few miles away in Whitegate - The Plough - which is excellent. Walking the Sandstone Trail near Kelsall (look for Grestys Waste) is good exercise, and Jodrell Bank Visitor Centre is worth a visit and does not cost the earth (no pun intended).
All in all the trip was a great success and the girls want to go camping again - a real testimony to Elm Cottage. We would come here again for a short break as we came back feeling relaxed and rested.

We have just returned from our stay at Elm Cottage where we spent the Bank Holiday Weekend. (22nd - 25th May 2009).
We had nowhere booked for the Bank Hol and accepted a last minute cancellation. The site is easy to find being just off the A54 and the entrance is well signposted.
Check in was painless and we were shown to our pitch by one of the wardens.
We stayed on pitch 6 which is opposite the reception. Although it is convenient for the shop, it is near the main road, which can get quite noisy on a busy weekend. Also all traffic entering or leaving the site, passed about a metre from our headboard!
However, even though both the caravan site and the rally field were full, thanks to the hardworking staff, the site and toilet / washrooms were always spotless.
A number of owls are in aviaries in the owners garden and are well worth a look.
Surprisingly, there is no extra charge for the Bank Holiday, awnings or dogs. Nor were we charged when we asked if we could stay on our pitch until into the afternoon.
A nice touch.
All in all a clean, well maintained, good value for money site, run by friendly staff.
Would we stay again? On a quieter weekend, Definitely yes!

We spent the Bank Holiday weekend at Elm Cottage, paid £12.50 per night (expensive for us) we have a very mixed opinion.
Staff were polite and informative, little shop was good for small essentials and a few luxuries such as fresh bread, newspapers and homemade jams
The toilets, wash up area, rubbish and recycling where excellent, showers were a little disappointing, on push taps that lasted only a less than a minute at a time. (I spent more time trying to find the tap and getting shampoo in my eyes!)
The most disappointing aspect had to be the road noise, it was really noticeable and woke us up a number of times during the night.
Would only go back if could get a pitch on the far side of the field.

Small but excellent site, very clean, small shop which is available on request at reception for all the essential things. Well maintained with a really lovely owl section where you get the chance to see these gorgeous birds close up. Toilets and showers are second to none with underfloor heating and a dishwashing section. Oulton Park is within a short ride/drive.

Friendly welcome, loved the newspaper service, left your order with the helpful staff and then nip to reception in the morning and your newspaper is waiting for you!
We stayed on an electric hook-up in the camping field. The field was fairly quiet, got a bit busier over the weekend, but certainly not crowded.
We loved this site, it was extremely clean, the toilets/showers were excellent and warm!. The presentation of the whole site was brilliant.
There is Spar within 2 miles and an Asda within 3 miles, so if you need any essentials they're certainly available within a 10 minute drive.
There is a small garden area with several different types of owls which are well worth a look, our kids loved them.
All in all, a fantastic campsite that we would recommend to families and couples.
