We just returned from our first trip to Park Coppice.
The site is big and arriving on a summer Saturday we only had the choice of 40 pitches, which sounds ok but as the site is spread through the forest it was a bit of a hunt to find a pitch! The pitches really vary in size too so it's worth having a good look around before you set up. You have to return to reception once you have found a pitch to let them know where you are and to pick up a key to the toilet blocks.
The toilet blocks were of the usual high CC standard although as previously mentioned the shower cubicles were a bit tight! I can imagine trying to shower with little ones might be a problem.
To get to the lake you have to walk through another campsite which during the week was fine but at weekends it was a bit crazy and there was quite a bit of noise from that site during the Saturday night too.
We took our dinghy with us as the site info mentions a lakeside launching area, this too is through the other site and also through a padlocked gate from Park Coppice (note- check the combination with reception when you arrive as we only discovered the lock after the site office had closed so had to wait until the next day!). It's also worth noting that you have to launch your boat and then take your trailer and car back up to the other side of the gate to Park Coppice, these are apparently National Trust rules as they look after the edge of the Lake.
We hope to return to this site later this summer and would recommend it to others.

Just returned from our 8 day holiday at Park Coppice, it was fab. We had really good weather which helped. Before we went I read all the previous reviews which were a little mixed, so we were unsure what to expect.
The site is wonderful, you are in amongst the trees and surrounded by woodland. We picked a spot that got the sun in the afternoon & evening for the bbqs. The facilities are great, toilets are very clean and well looked after.
The walk into Coniston along the lake takes about 30mins and the walk to the nearest pub, the ship takes about 10-15mins from the path by reception, good food & they take dogs. Follow the path to the road, along the road approx 50yds, back onto the public footpath brings you to the pub.
Staff very friendly, pitches mostly hardstanding so rock pegs are needed.
Will we go again? Without a doubt, can't wait

Good site with clean showers and toilets, in an area with outstanding views. A nice area for walking both gentle by the lake and testing if you fancy having a go on the old man of coniston,
If you fancy a meal out in the evening then the ship inn is only a short walk away but take the footpath as the road is narrow.
Only very minor niggle was the lack of chemical toilet disposal point near are pitch but no major drama.
Will visit this site again this year.

Spent two nights on this site over the Easter weekend and would highly recommend it. Although the place is huge and was very busy, the facilities were plentiful and spotless. It is set amongst woodland, so you don't actually notice the size of the site. There are many walks in the area, including the Coniston Old Man, Tarn Hows and the lake is on the doorstep. Coniston village is excellent with a few shops and several excellent places to eat and drink. Will certainly use again!

We spent a wet and wild weekend here in October (when the mountain marathon and the bad weather made the news).
Luckily the marathon runners were OK - and we survived too!
It's quite a big site with lots of different cul de sacs with different shapes and sizes of pitches. The site slopes down to Coniston water and you can walk to the lake and along the shore to Coniston itself.
There are a couple of shower blocks on site - usual CC standard.
Good location for exploring the Lake District.

Have stayed at this site twice now. This was the site we used for our first introduction to caravanning.
I don't agree that this is an easy to navigate to site. My OH is a very experienced tower having towed farm machinery and trailers for years, but some of the roads leading to this site can be a bit scary, especially if you meet a large coach coming the other way - as we have! We do have a large twin axle at 26ft plus a large pickup but I personally would exercise caution if you are not an experienced tower.
Once on the site, it is lovely. Its situated very close to the lake at Coniston, you can walk along the waters edge and into Coniston village with ease. The site can feel a little dark on a dull day due to its location in a wooded area. The facilities are really quite dated and could do with a revamp. Shower areas are probably the smallest we have come across. On our second visit we used our van as our van bathroom is larger and warmer than the site facilities.
Some of the pitches can be awkward to get into and a bit on the small side, so if you have a motor mover you will almost certainly need to use it on this site. There is a play area for the kids, but we haven't pitched at this end of the site so couldn't comment on the noise.
If you stay near the first shower block, take ear plugs as there is a loud ringing / humming from them - not sure why but can be irritating when you are trying to get to sleep after a hard day climbing the fells.
I'm not sure if we would choose to use this site again, but never say never if we couldn't get in at any other site in the Lakes then perhaps we would. We have found a much better site and very easy to reach site in the Lakes but not telling where otherwise it might get too full!

We stayed 2 nights at this site and had one of the best camping weekends we have ever had. The weather was great which makes all the difference but this is a great site. It has a rugged feel to it because its like camping in the woods but you have all the usual great facilities of a caravan club site. We walked into Coniston along the lake went to the riverside cafe for lunch and then went on a steam boat it was loveley. The scenery is beautiful and the staff were very helpful on the site it is a large site but we chose our pitch and it was in a great location and very private. The approaching road is narrow and needs careful negotiation but its worth it. We will definitely be returning.

A very nice easy to navigate to Lakeland site. However the drive from Ambleside to Coniston can be hard work particularly for larger outfits. But there again in the lakes you expect narrow twisting roads, but be warned.
We were there on the final weekend before the winter shut down but the site was still in good order and tidy. We were “self contained” so can’t comment on the toilets and showers but there were plenty of water and disposal areas to choose from. We paid £24 for 2 adults 3 dogs and porch awning for two nights.
The site as suggested by the name is surrounded by dense woodlands and at night time very dark. Possibly not for the superstitious or nervous although even the winter wildlife was interesting.
Whilst we had plenty of room (being one of only about twenty set ups on site), looking at the layout of the plots I get the impression at full capacity in peak season this may be a crowded busy site. We pitched up in the dark, adjacent to a marker peg as required but didn’t realise until next morning we were onto the plot next door. I suspect minimum spacing applied in that area at least. The warden told me all pitches are hard standing and we subsequently found some (the first one we tried and the one we ended up on) have a subtle but significant slope to them. You will need a decent hammer and pegs to make an impression on some parts if you wish to put up an awning.
A short walk down to the bottom end of the park and you’re at the lake. Whatever else you think of the park, its worth visiting for this fantastic easy access. The weather was against us so we didn’t explore too far but there’s a marked reasonable footpath (boots or wellies recommended) to Coniston village in one direction and into the yonder in the other with beautiful scenery at any time of the year.
This is an excellent site for walkers with easy access to the old man and other ridges. For that reason alone we will be returning next year.

Just visited park coppice and the site is as nice as we expected, the toilet / showers could do with a revamp but they were clean and warm. It could also do with a few more lights round the site or repair the ones that don't work. An ideal base for exploring the lakes and if fit enough try climbing the old man of coniston, the views from the top are breathtaking if lucky with the weather like we were. Nearest pub is twenty mins walk (the ship inn) and was worth the walk, coniston is another twenty mins with two pubs and a restaurant and a few shops / petrol station and spar supermarket. A good time was had by all will visit again.

Just got back from a 5 day break, this was the 2nd time we have stayed at Park Coppice and it was as lovely as ever. The showers were clean and the staff friendly, however as we arrived at 6pm on a Friday evening it was very difficult to locate a pitch. This didn’t dampen our moods though, as the pitch we did eventually find was quiet and picturesque.
The walks into Coniston were not as far as we had thought and the scenery was beautiful so walking to get supplies wasn’t a chore.
The Pubs in Coniston were very nice but very expensive although according to my other half the Real Ale was worth the price. We were even able to walk into Coniston from the campsite on a night and felt very safe walking home even in the dark.
Cannot wait to return next year.
