We stayed for three nights in our tent. I expected it to be busy as it is a huge site with only 10 tent pitches, but there were plenty of spaces left on the Sunday night.
The ground is VERY hard - you need proper rock pegs and a proper hammer. Most people only had standard pegs and they seemed to all be sticking out about 2/3 of their length! A couple of our rock pegs died too.
It is a bit of a walk to the toilet block but it is a very clean block with 6 showers in the ladies, 5 loos and 2 or three sink cubicles. I never waited for any of these and it was an August weekend!
The wardens were welcoming. There didn't seem to be a massive list of rules and we were left to it. Only irritating thing was needing the key for the toilet block - not used to it and did forget to take it occasionally.
The tent area is quite sheltered with trees all around. There were strong winds while we were there but the trees did a good job of breaking it a bit. The EHU has a TV point if you like that kind of thing!
About 3/4 mile to the Ship Inn which was nice and about half a mile further to Coniston. Mostly footpaths rather than roads so a nice walk with the dogs.
We walked up Dow Crag, Brim Fell and The Old Man straight from the site - I reckon there are more possibilities to go out with the car, which we like to do.
Went on the Coniston Launch too.
The Black Bull does good food, great beer and is very dog friendly. The view from the patio of the Yewdale Inn is good.
We had a good time here and would go back.

Some of the best scenery in the U. K can be found on the drive into Coniston, however some sections of the road can be very narrow.
Large Morrisons in Kendal, also Halfords etc, small shop on site with daily newspapers, the green gate takes you to a secluded part of the wooded site with its own toilet and shower room.
The right hand gated road takes you down to the bottom of the site, lots of pitches to be found leading of the main road, two new toilet blocks and service areas, within easy reach from the road, two play areas also near bye.
The majority of the pitches are hard standing gravel and under tree cover, levelling blocks are recommended, you can gain access to the Coniston water via several gates and pathway leading out from the bottom of the site.
Suggest motorhomers stock up before you come onto the site, Tesco stores in Millom, ideal site for those enjoying the country side walks, we had lovely dry weather during our stay,

This is a lovely site, big but does not feel it. We hardly used the car, cycled into Coniston along the footpaths, very safe with 2 kids all the way to boat club. Toilet block lovely & clean, never queued. Will definitely go back. Kids loved it & plenty of places to explore.

Visited this site over BH weekend. Arrived late due to traffic but site warden rang me and advised me of road closure and to park in late arrivals. Wardens all extremely helpful and friendly.
Site is large and in a wooded area so plenty of space and privacy even on a busy weekend. Three toilet/ shower blocks so no queues and showers very clean and hot.
Two play areas for children and very safe site for children.
Lovely walks directly from site into Coniston where there are pubs and shops which serve good food. Fish and chip van visits site Friday and Saturday. Shop open all day and sells a variety of essentials and maps etc.
One of the best sites we have visited - welcoming with great facilities and fab location. We will be going back as soon as we can.

This has to be one of the nicest sites we have stayed on. Set amongst the trees in small glades it it lovely and peaceful with walks in all directions too suit all abilities.
As it is a fairly steep walk down to the lake anyone with walking difficulties would be wise to choose a pitch at the bottom of the site.
There are three toilet/shower blocks on site which are all kept immaculately clean by the staff. There are water and disposal points situated all around the site which you need as the site is so large.
Lovely selection of places to eat and drink. A variety of boat trips on the lake. Stunning scenery. Best of all is to just find a quiet spot on the lake shore, sit down and relax, enjoy the view.
We would return every week if we did not live so far away. Hopefully we will be back.

This was our second stop on a tour of the Lake District. Our Caravan Club site. On arrival we were told to just drive off and find a pitch. I found this a bit daunting because of the size of the site and the photo copied plan they gave us was not easy to read. I think for first timers it would be helpful to perhaps follow a warden around the site in one of their little trucks, I should say the welcome was very friendly.
The pitches are set out in little cul de sacs. The service points are conveniently located for waste and fresh water and chemical disposal. The showers and toilets very clean and well maintained.
The highlight has to be the walk directly from the site along the edge of Coniston water. It's a flat walk with beautiful scenery. I would recommend the a boat trip out in the lake it was well worth it.
We had a very good meal in the Bluebird Cafe on the edge of the lake. Not cheap but excellent food.
We didn't have children with us but I would love to take the grandchildren to this site. It is very child friendly. This site is in our list as a definite 'will return'

Just back from a very wet weekend at this site. This is a big site, but only apart of it was open at this time of year. Booking in was easy, but this was my first time to a Caravan Club site and was not use to finding my own pitch first and then telling reception, maybe next time I will park up and walk around to find a pitch. The pitch we picked was the first one we came to, it was a good size and level. Water point, bins and chemical disposal points were close to hand. I did see several of these around the park. The shower block was clean with plenty of hot water. These were accessed with a key, but no deposit is required. The shop on site was closed and the play park near us was on the small side, but there are 2 more play parks on the site. As the weather was bad, this was not a issue anyway. One thing I must mention is the route to the site can be a bit nerve wracking, so take it easy and you will be fine.
All in all, a nice site and pleasant wardens, we would return.

First time at a CC site, and was not disappointed at all with it, set in woodland it has natural charm and pitches were of a good size in little cul-de-sacs. There is a small shop, and 3 play areas although as it was winter only a small bit of the site was open, and to get to the bigger play parks you had to go through the closed off bits, which was fine, but the small park that was open only had 2 items on which the kids found ok aged 9 and 12. There is a Chip van that comes around Friday and Saturday although we did not use it we were told its well priced and lovely, but the people who we met said they were not allowed tomato sauce as its sold in the shop, but it was closed all weekend. The shower block was lovely and disabled too. I am disabled so my mobility scooter is a must and on the road ways this was excellent, but around the caravans a bit bumpy. There are a few steep inclines too so I was not able to manage to get down there either, no fault of the site.
The only downside to the site is the road way getting to it, it becomes very narrow in places and we had a 25foot caravan, wouldn't want come after work in the dark along the road.

We spent new year at Coniston and it's a great site. Lots of great walks in the area - Torver is worth going to as it has two cracking pubs with hood food.
Staff were welcoming and friendly and facilities spotlessly clean.
A great site. Will go again!

This is a very large but well maintained site about a mile from the lovely village of Coniston. Great walking from the site and access to the lake for water sports is easy from the bottom of the site. , several facilities blocks, all spotlessly clean. Excellent vase for the South Lakes.
