Although we visited the site in September it was still full. Get there early on a Friday for a decent choice of pitch. Its well a visit though, pitches are in amongst trees and generally flat. Loo blocks are clean, although remembering to take a key is a bit of a pain. Lovely walk to lake only minuites away and a short walk into Consiton. Can recomend Blue Bird Beer at the pub on the left as you go over the bridge into Coniston. Food is good there too - reasonable prices and good sized helpings. The route to the site is very narrow in places so take care. Walked up Coniston Old Man from the site, great not to have to worry about finding somewhere to park. Lots of other excellent walks in the area

We've just returned from a week at Park Coppice and were most impressed with this large but cleverly designed site. The site is the ideal for a quiet family holiday and there's loads to do nearby with Coniston Water only a 10 minute walk away. There is an on-site shop which sells the basics and Coniston village is only a few minutes away by car. A fish & chip van comes to the site 2 evenings per week. Toilet & shower blocks are spotless and there are baby changing facilities in both the male & female blocks. The site overall is well maintained. Whatever you do, don't forget the rock pegs, otherwise you'll end up paying a fortune for them in the local shops; 60p - 90p each seemed to be the norm. Alternatively, you could always make use of the many boulders to attach your guys to. Now for the bad points. The lighting around the site and on the pitches is very poor. As the site is geared mainly towards caravans; there are very few tents pitches and the site lacks some of the basics, such as freezer block exchange facilities. But having said that, each pitch benefits from electric hook-up points; so it may be worthwhile investing in a small fridge unit and EHU lead. All in all, we enjoyed our holiday here and we'll certainly be returning in the future.

Lovely site, staff very helpful and friendly. The site is on a wooded slope down to the lake, so all the pitches are individual and private. Toilet blocks were OK , cubicles were a little cramped but they are due to be updated soon apparently. We have now visited this site 4 times and it is our favourite site so far in the Lakes.

We arrived on a Saturday lunchtime, and there were a few units booking in. The Reception area was large and the staff seemed capable, if a little slow to get us sorted. We went off to find our own pitch, with little in the way of assistance or recommendation. I can not say anymore about the wardens, because I didnt see any after the initial booking in. This being described as a 5 star CC site, we were rather surprised at the poor state of the pitches. They were quite poorly maintained, uneven and in some places water logged. The pitches are not marked out with any boundary markers, nor are their tarmac roads to each area. (The main road through the site is tarmac, the rest are gravel or semi dirt tracks) The lake district is called that, because of the lakes!.Caused by a surprising amount of rain water , I thought the drainage on each pitch would be better! The water and waste areas were fine. The electric hook up was a joke on our pitch. A standard cable was not long enough to reach the bollard, so had to be routed across the centre area. People and cars crossing it regularly. The bollard had 4 hook ups. Entry to the toilet blocks was by key. (1 key shared between 4 of us!) The blocks were dated, small and too few for over 300 pitches! The facilities were clean but desperately need updating. Only one hand drier, which was removed half way through our visit. Why oh why close the block as 10.00 till 11.00 for cleaning. This is a very busy period! The laundry room had one working drier. A note on the other stated 'out of order'. Apparently this had been in place since the previous year! There seems to be a lot of negatives, but this is in view of the fact that the site is billed as a 5 star CC site. Quite frankly, this site may have been 5 star in 1978, but will not be a five star as Long as I have a hole in my posterior! Had the site been billed as 3 star, I would have known what to expect, and would have been happy with the facilities! This review would have been quite different. On the positive side- The location of the site is great, access the lake is not bad, a long walk but worth it once there. There are great pubs and shops in walking distance. The site layout is great, secluded areas making the site feel more intimate than the 300 pitches would suggest. The trees surrounding each pitch area are great for privacy, but tend to drop debris and rain onto your van / tent! Once again, taking things in to perspective- If you book onto this site expecting 3 star facilities, you will have a great time. You may need to work a little harder at levelling your caravan etc, but it is worth it. If you expect 5 star facilities, you will be disappointed. Once we accepted that the standards were not what we expected we had a great time! If you think that maybe our expectations are a little high, let me tell you that we have stayed in tents at Fisherground, during monsoon season and had a great time (because we knew what to expect!) We have also stayed at Powburn, which was like being in the gardens of a stately home, with facilities to match! If you know what to expect you can adapt accordingly. I think this site was misrepresented.

This was our third visit here, twice in a caravan and we have been before once in a tent. Has to be our favourite site as nothing is too much trouble for the wardens and the toilet block and showers kept extremely clean. It is a large site but is split amongst the trees so that it really doesnt feel that big. Very busy when we were there but didnt feel overcrowded at all. Lovely walk into Conniston either along the lake or via the disused railway track. Good pubs especially The Sun, lovely food and the pony trekking was enjoyed by my daughters. Watch out for the rabbits, red squirrels and the woodpeckers!

Arrived on Friday afternoon and were surprised to find (on a CC site) that after booking in, you just find a free pitch. I don't think this would work too well when the site is really full and I would prefer to see allocated pitches according to what you need, (close to toilets, etc). That said, we found two pitches near the bottom of the site, close to the toilet/shower block and play area for the kids and had a very quiet relaxing weekend. A superb location in the woods and full of wildlife. On Saturday we went on Lake Coniston in an inflatable kayak which the kids loved. The lake was only about 1/4 of a mile away. On Friday night, we eat at The Wilson Arms, which is only about 3/4 of a mile away. The food and beer were great and I would certainly go back. The route for us was from the South (Lancashire) and we approached via Newby Bridge/Greenodd. The roads are narrow in places and you have to be careful but we got there safe and sound. The chip van that comes on site is terrible. The chips were very greasy and tasteless. Overall, We would definitely go back.

This was our first camping trip since we were kids and we were not really sure what to expect or was the protocol was for choosing your pitch! The site staff were very helpful and friendly. The site was beautiful. Very relaxing and quiet. The campsite is quite big so we were able to go for a wonder in the woodland grounds. Very well designed to give you a feeling of your own space. Really felt like we were away from it all. The shower block was excellent. Very clean and plenty of cubicles. Is mostly a caravan site. One area for Tents. Can house approx 15 tents pitches we would guess, so book early for peak times. Glad we read the reviews and took note of the comments regarding rock pegs. Thank you for the advise! we definitely needed them. We will definitely be going again. Have been to a few sites since and this is our favourite so far.

Liked the park, although it was very busy when I visited. Site staff were very helpful, even allowing me two tents with the van, although the caravan club rules said only one. Conniston has some great pubs, and is only a short walk, through another campsite, which, to me, didnt look that good. had a slightly "crammed in " feeling to me, but I did visit in the height of the season

Stopped at this site for a weekend mid September, four adults and two kids age 8 + 9, we all had a great time, kids loved it, asking to go again before we left. Pitches are pretty unique no two the same and lots of little nooks and crannies that you can hide away in if you so wish, you get to choose where you pitch, if you have awnings don't forget your rock pegs you will definitely need them no matter where you go on this site, lovely reception area and friendly helpful staff, toilets, showers and other facilities all clean and good working order. Short walk to the bottom of the site takes you to some breathtaking views of the lake and mountains some great walks and (weather permitting) paddling areas kids found some great tree swings and loved exploring torver commons. Definately worth a visit

Great site loads of amenities, the drive to it is typical of the lake district with lots of tight roads but what views along the way. We had a trailer tent at the time so they said we had to pitch it in the tent area which for such a big site is quite a small area. Pegging out was fun should have brought a pneumatic drill ! Really friendly staff, lovely area, good amenities loads to do we just went for 3 days but you could easily stay a full week possibly 2 and still have plenty to do. Would suggest taking a torch as the walk to shower blocks at night was quite a scary affair !
