Just returned from Park Coppice, and had a fantastic time. The site is literally within a forest, and covers a huge area, although don't get the wrong impression, there is nothing regimented about the layout,
the pitches are all completely different shapes and sizes, some by the winding road through the site, others tucked away in little niches, with 4 or 5 pitches clustered together.
We chose a great pitch which was in one of the niches. It was a secluded, quiet spot, under the trees( as most of the pitches are)and safe for the children to play.
This site has a very 'safe', family feel about it, and our 2 children were accommodated well, with 2/3 play areas scattered around, and safety for them to cycle around in.
They had some great adventures in the woodland, it was great for them. The showers/toilets were absolutely immaculate at all times.
Lake Coniston is directly accessible from the site, and from our pitch was about a 10 minute walk down through the site. The pitches at the bottom of the site nearest the lake are often taken by the watersports/boating campers, but we preferred the pitches higher up the site, away from the play areas(bit noisy till lateish).
Having the Lake so close was a fantastic bonus. There is a direct, safe public foot path and cycle path from the site, going down by the lake, and through a neighbouring campsite that takes you directly to Coniston village, there are an array of cycle routes / walking / hiking routes from around the campsite, you'll be spoilt for choice, numerous village style pubs also!
We wished we had stayed longer than 5 nights and will definitely return, we loved it!
Access roads upto Coniston are very narrow, hilly etc, whether you're coming from North or South, but the South approach is better.

This was our 1st visit but not our last. It is to the usual high standard you expect from the Caravan Club with friendly wardens.
Although the site is large with over 300 hardstanding pitches it feels close knit because the pitches are clustered. There are 3 shower blocks so everyone is close to 1, as well as at least 3 motorhome service points. There are a couple of well equipped play parks for children.
On site there is a small shop that is well stocked but only accepts cash, an information room with plenty of advertising material of local attractions. A chip van comes on Tuesday, Friday & Saturday evenings and is worth a visit as prices aren't bad and nor are the portions.
You can walk to Coniston village via another campsite and the footpath is hardstanding all the way. Once in the village you have a good number of shops, cafes and pubs, take a walk down to the lake where you have a small complex of shops on the way and the lake you can hire a boat or buy a ticket for a tour on a steamer.
Great touring base but just watch the roads & drive with care.

Have visited a few sites and found this to be one of the best. No rows upon rows of caravans but small areas which can be as private as you want. Excellent toilets, showers etc. The staff were nice.
Although this is a large busy site it never seemed to be overcrowded. There is a small shop on site but for better shopping you are best to include the visit to a Supermarket as part of a day out.
Some of the pitches can be shaded as this site is in a forest, but you are also sheltered from the wind.
If I found a negative it was the road to the site which can be very narrow. Best to approach from the south.
Well worth another visit.

Not a very good approach to the site even following the instruction given - roads very narrow for quite a few miles - not good when towing a caravan.
First time we visited this site as site seemed too big to what we prefer but after reading previous reviews saying pitches secluded we decided to give it a go.
Found that when the site was busy everyone was on top of each other - next pitch to us they were actually having their bbq right down next to our caravan!
We wont be going back to this site as pitches far too close to each other.
On the plus side the walk into Coniston was lovely!

Enjoyed our visit here, really big site but you feel quite secluded in your own spot.
Bit dark and gloomy on a sunny day due to being in a wood which restricts any views in this gorgeous area.
Very clean facilities and friendly wardens, very quiet as well if you choose the right spot.
One negative point is that you have to choose your own pitch which means driving round with van on back looking for empty pitches, I think it would be easier to at least be told which pitches are empty and this would avoid going down cul de sacs and having to then turn round.

Visited this site for the 5th time. Love the area great for walking. Friendly staff, and nice mobile chippy visits. Love the way the pitches are laid out in small clusters.
Only one down fall is you need to pick the correct pitch if you want the sun.
Toilets are spotless and the are a number of blocks so you don't have to walk to far.
Small shop on site that sells all the basics. You can get a discount for the Conison launch, nice little extra.
Plenty of space for children and dogs to play. That good we are back in June.

Spent one night at this large and well maintained site just after the bank holiday weekend.
The location of the site is ideal, being just a few minutes walk from the lake with its launching facilities. Walking in the area is excellent, with Coniston Old Man and other great fells within easy reach. It's about 20 minutes walk from Coniston, which has several pubs and shops.
The site facilities have just been renovated to showers and toilets are spotless and plentiful.
Overall, a great site - well worth a visit.

Very very large Caravan Club site – nearly 300 hard standing pitches in dense woodland. Close to Lake Coniston but no views of the Lake from the site.
The trees render most of the pitches in shadow throughout the day. Some of the pitches are sloping and small. Newly refurbished toilet and laundry blocks are excellent.
The site is so huge – Caravan Club has four couples as Wardens (all friendly). Good location for walks – either by the Lake of in the hills directly from site.
Small shop on site – but well stocked with basic provisions. The site spreads over ½ mile from entrance to lower pitches. Boat launching is available through adjoining camp site.
Personally found the site too big, and Wardens agreed that visitors either love or hate this Caravan Club site.

Great location and great site although very big. It was very busy but there are lots of facilities and they were spotless and warm. 15 min walk into Coniston and even better 20 min walk by heading through camping field and going along lake shore - dogs loved it.
Only small gripe - all parking in trees so no satellite reception for TV and they wanted £13.50 for a bit of cable to run in van from ground socket so we did without - if they told you before you went we would have bought one for about £5 in B&Q.
Some reviews said staff not friendly but we found them really nice and helpful

Just returned from our 5th visit to this site and as usual we had a great time.
This is a good and popular site for families with children- there is a baby and toddler wash room in the toilet block and 3 nice new playareas, which my children thought were great all set in acres and acres of National Trust Woodland.
There is a lovely walk out of the bottom of the site, through the neighbouring campsite,by the lake and through the fields to Coniston. On this visit we stopped for lunch down by the lake at the Bluebird Cafe which was really nice.
This site is a great base from which to explore the beautiful Lake District. Further afield I could recommend a trip to The Colony Candle Factory in Lindal-in-Furness,(17 miles away), if like me you can not resist candles and pretty things at bargain prices- there is also a really nice cafe here.
Also highly recommended if you have children is a day at the wonderful South Lakes Wild Animal Park at Dalton-in-Furness,(20 miles from the site)-you can use your Tesco Great Days Out vouchers here.
Park Coppice is a definite favourite of ours- a lovely site in a great location.
