This site has been developed to follow the contours of the land leading down almost to the lake's edge. The main path loops and dips through the trees and smaller camping areas are dotted apparently at random off the path. This is a woodland site and the whole area is kept as natural as possible, with individual pitches often separated by trees or bushes. As a result, wildlife is still around - bird watch from the 'van! Some pitches are open and sunny; others shaded and a little more enclosed; none seemed to be actually under the trees. If you're lucky you can take your choice. Our pitch was a natural hard standing and was fairly level, as were most of them as far as we could see, although we used levellers to bring us on to a fully even keel. Access to pitches is easy; 'vans are not bunched or cramped in any way. The motor vehicle service point was also easily accessible. We used the one at the bottom of the site and could drive alongside it without need for awkward manoeuvring as at some sites. TV was watchable and our mobiles (Vodafone and Orange) had acceptable signals. The shower block was up to the usual club standard, warm early in the mornings and spotlessly maintained by the wardens. The shop sells the basics and newspapers can be supplied if ordered the day before. The surrounding area is superb. A slow stroll into Coniston will take about 30 minutes along the banks of the lake. About half-way along is Coniston Hall (National Trust) which has to be one of Cumbria's best kept secrets. The main hall, with its vast vaulted ceiling, is sadly usually kept locked, we were told. We snuck in when a workman was there. Plenty of good walking and cycling tracks are all around. And the real ales at the Black Bull in Coniston are worth tasting. They brew it themselves and do it very well and moorishly. A great site and highly recommended for this part of the Lake District.

We had a great weekend here. As they say rock pegs are more than a must and a big heavy duty hammer to knock them in with. There is not much grass covering the rock and we did have to bin 4 rock pegs at the end of our stay and do have a hole in the bottom of our inner tent. The toilet block was a short walk and they where very clean and the water was always piping hot, although some of the showers were not very powerful and just trickled. The shop was really well stocked and the staff were very helpful. This is a really quiet site and is not too far from the village and some fantastic walks and pubs!

Tent area small, facing a childrens playground which isn't desirable when you have not got children. You also pay for electricity points, but not many tents require this. And it seems a added cost. I suggest ear plugs, because of the close pitching area. Be prepared to hear owls most of the night! And they are loud, but its good being close to nature. Othewise the site was up to standard, clean toilets etc. Close to coniston fells for walkers.

What can I say about this site - it's wonderful. For such a large site the chaps at Park Coppice have got it right. The pitches are all separated into little clearings so you will have no fear of being hemmed in. The toilet blocks are exceptionally clean and tidy along with good facilities such as washers, dryers, ironing boards etc. The walk down to the lake from this site is wonderful and the dog adored being able to swim in the lake and being able to let them off the lead and run free.
With the playgrounds and woodland to explore the kids had a ball but the best thing about this site is the warmth and friendliness of the staff. They are always willing to help and the wardens have excellent local knowledge and nothing is too much bother. I believe these wardens are off to another site in Hawes for the 2006 season and for this reason alone my family and I will visit them as I believe they would make any site as likeable.
For you light sleepers ear plugs may be the order of the day as the foxes can't half make a racket. This site also has a 'man in a van' that comes on certain nights with curry's, fish & chips and the like (great when you can't be bothered to cook). Would definitely recommend.

Not sure about the ball play field. Fab site though. Did not like the narrow lanes to it. Take your time because the bus flies round the corners. Scratched our van on branches at the side of the road. Take a hair comb in case you are locked out of the toilets. I met a man outside he said can you let me in my comb wont work! The locks are a bit worn. Some good walks there

I arrived at the site with a certain degree of trepidation, having visited big caravan club sites as a kid I was worried about the big holiday camp image. I could not have been more wrong. The site is divided into small areas in the woods, like clearings, these accomodate from 3-10 units depending on the size. We were in the camping area which was a 5 minute walk from the main office. As everyone has said, rock pegs are a must, the soft top layer of the ground hides the hard slate bed underneath and needs a hefty peg to break, these are sold at the camp shop but are cheaper in Coniston village if you go there first.
The amenities are second to none, large toilet blocks, regularly cleaned with good showers that had plenty of piping hot water. Washing up areas are outside but under shelter. There are washing machines and dryers and my only gripe was that there were not enough, they tended to be busy most of the time.
As for the area? Well we just couldn't cram it all in, if you like active holidays, theres so mush to do, kayaking, rowing, boating, fishing, walking, pony trekking...really the list goes on and on, its a beautiful area and will keep you busy all the time if you so desire, or you could just relax with a picnic by the shore of Lake Coniston (weather permitting). and thats the only caveat, the weather can be very changeable so be prepared. Overall a great time and we'll book again.

Just got back from a wonderful 4 days here. Just a short walk from site to waters edge, lovely evening walks with mists swirling over Coniston...very atmospheric! The site is well laid out with good spaced pitches. Facilities clean. Site is geared towards caravans really, although I noticed a woodland glade with some tents pitched, very idyllic looking. Got up one morning at around 7am and had a quiet walk round site and saw two red squirrels. We went walking one day and hired a boat at coniston the next. Very relaxing!

We arrived mid week and were pleased to find a near empty camping area. the toilet block was not too bad and the site seemed nice. we had a great time here until the Friday night, when the site filled up. In the area we were in there were 6 tent pitches, but the wardens put 10 tents into this area. The tents were so close that guy ropes were crossing over each other, if there had been a fire, the whole line of tents would have gone up. Also, on this site, you have no choice but to pay for electric, which in our field there were six hook up points, and ten tents, leaving 4 tents paying for something they couldnt use. If you have to pay for something it should be avaliable for use. I know we, and various other people on site were deeply upset and felt like our holidays were ruined. This is not a cheap site and I expect better than this. It was a shame as the site was in a great location.

June 2005 Visited this site weekend 10-11/06 and can't praise it highly enough. Kids loved the play areas and pitches were good size. Location excellent but as previous postees have said TAKE ROCK PEGS AND A BLOODY GOOD MALLET.!!! You will not be disappointed . It was nice to walk onto the lake which takes you through Coniston Old Hall site and see that for what it really is. Noisy, loud and not a patch on Park Coppice . And the difference in price over the weekend is probably about £10.

June 2005 This was our first outing with our Caravan. Stayed for a weekend. Lovely site very clean and spacious, everyone was friendly and as it was our first time caravanning helped us. Facility were excellent. You could choose your own pitch there was plenty of choice. Good play areas for my 2 young children. Walks directly from site. Take-away van on site at weekends and shop selling essentils. You will need rock pegs as all pitches are hardstanding, but shop does sell them. We will definately be going back again.
