Well we went early May bank holiday for a quick trip to see if the site was as good as in some reviews. And it was not a dissapointment.
Great setting and toilets and showers are clean and well maintained(hand soap and washing up liquid provided)
Ran by Ken and Isobel this site is brill, Ken who is busy I met on 3 to 4 occasions on the visit very chatty and will help you with anything. Site well spaced out so no chance of being penned in like a battery hen.
Great walks off the end of the site(green boulder/rock) into the forest which comes alive at night with owls hooting etc and in the morning Woodpeckers around us.
Castles and abbeys are in abundance in Yorkshire so check out English Heritige .
The Dennison Arms lives up to its reputation, huge portions of food although it's not Gordon Ramsey it's fine British pub grub.
All credit to a good site and cant wait to go back in August this year with the caravan. And please pay attention to the directions on a previous review go to the very end of the lane.
One of the best, reccomended

This was our first camping trip along with our 2 young children. Really loved the site, spacious pitches even when busy didn't feel crowded. Beautiful surroundings with some lovely walks out of the top field.
Very safe site for the kids as well away from main roads. Had some excellent days out in Scarborough, Whitby & on Filey beach.
The only thing that let this site down was the lack of facilities. Only 2 showers and 2 toilets.
Lovely owners, very friendly. Would love to return if there were more showers etc.

This site was fantastic. Stunning scenery, great facilities and a very enjoyable holiday. My partner and I, in our mid 20's and enjoyed it thoroughly.
The site was very cheap, and Ken was very helpful. He recommended that we eat in a local pub - The Denison Arms where we had a fantastic meal, but be warned, one meal will feed 2 very hungry people!
Due to the weather being a little unpredictable Ken suggested that we pitch next to the hardstanding pitches at the front of the site, near a little wall. This offered the protection from the wind that we needed and gave us an amazing view across acres of unspoilt countryside.
Will definitely return again soon.
On another note, don't confuse this site with the first farm you come to in the lane. Keep driving down the country lane until you can go no further!

Spent a weekend here and found the site to be as good as (mostly) the reviews say. Lovely peaceful spot, friendly and helpful site owners, toilet and shower facilities perfectly acceptable - it was a quiet weekend.
Pubs in the village not particularly thrilling, but the fish and chip shop is handy enough by car - the lane up to the farm is long.
Lots of wildlife to be seen, including many owls hooting away at night. Some of our neighbours took their kids out on a night time walk with torches - what a great idea!
Well situated for walking both at the coast and in the Moors.
Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and would certainly recommend the site to anyone - hope to go back there ourselves.

We have just returned from a thoroughly enjoyable weekend. The campsite was what I call 'real' camping no frills just a good old fashioned outdoors activity amongst a working farm. That's not to say that the facilities were basic or anything in fact they were more than adequate. There are 2 shower units with wc and basin which were very nice(I tried both) and free. Around the corner there are 2 more toilets - ok so not as many as at some other sites but as I say - more than adequate and kept very clean which was a job in itself considering that the grass had recently been mown and was very wet. There is also a plug for hairdryer etc and the use of a tumble dryer (also free) and a drying area. Ken the owner couldn't have been more helpful and when we arrived later than expected he was there to greet us and show us where we could pitch our tent. The night noises were amazing and some weren't for the faint hearted but you do get used to them once you know what they are and Ken gives you the rundown. Would also recommend the local chippy but don't go if you are in a rush as everything is cooked to order and seemed to take ages. This is definitely a site to add to our favourites.

We have arrived back home after a week at this lovely quiet site. We had difficulty finding the site at first,it isn't signposted. Once you go through east Ayton and turn off the a170, right onto cockrah road you then take the 1st left after the gate and just follow the track past 2 farms and just keep on going until you come to the end and reach high Yedmandale farm.
The horrible rain didn't put us off!. Ken,the owner couldn't do enough for us. The entrance to the field was a mud bath so cars couldn't get on, so ken got out his tractor and towed everyone's' trailers up to their chosen spot. He then got his wheelbarrows out so we could take our things onto the field.ken you are a saint!
The site is in a great setting, next to yedmandale woods but there is also access to great walks into the forests and fields beyond. When the sun is out it is a beautiful site. Through the night you can even hear owls hooting in the woods. My kids thought it was fantastic!
There are 2 showers on site each with a toilet, sink and mirror.there are also 2 further toilets in the drying room aswell as pot washing facilities and even a tumble dryer. There is a double plug socket and mirror.
The kids will love the geese and chickens walking about on the farm and boris the horse(ken will even give the kids carrots to feed him).
In the village there is a small super market and a great fish'n'chip shop.
We would thoroughly recommend this site

Have just returned from a 2 night stay at this wonderful site. The owners are really friendly, nothing is any trouble. The weather unfortunately wasn't very kind to us. Heavy rain before we went made the approach to the site quite muddy. We weren't able to take our vehicles up to the pitches, as the entrance was very muddy. We were provided with wheelbarrows to carry our gear up to our pitch! However the pitches themselves were fine. There was plenty of space between the pitches, definitely no overcrowding here. The owner told us he had had to refuse some bookings from campers that had booked in at other sites, only to find them flooded. We will definitely go back to this site again, just hope the weather will be a bit better!

We only live a few miles from this site and as it was a nice weekend decided to go.
Rang up Saturday lunch time and pitched the tent about 3.
From the moment you ring up, Ken cannot be more friendly and helpful.
If your going to the Scarborough area go here!

My visit was two adults and two 16 year olds. We had the large main tent and a pup tent for the teenagers. It was our second time at that campsite as we had gone last year as well. We were happy to see that there had been improvements made as our first year there were only the two showers with toilets so if people were in both showers and you needed the toilet you had to wait for ages. We had told Ken this on our first visit and he listened to us and added two separate toilets. The campsite is very roomy and Ken doesn't let too many people in so that we're not cramped together. He also leaves the middle of the field free for the children to play games which is a big bonus. There's not a shop on site but if you go to the town which is about 2 miles down the road there are take aways, restaurants and shops.
The only problem with the campsite is when it rains and the ground gets wet it quite difficult to get your car to the tent and a car got stuck last year and ended up putting large holes in the ground from the tires. We will not be going back in 2009 as we thought we would see another part of Britain but maybe in a couple of years we will go back because the campsite is very relaxing and quiet during the day. I would recommend this to anybody.

I'm sorry but I cannot agree with the majority of reviewers here. We stayed for only one night (would have been more) because we thought the place was run down, had a jaded appearance with weeds and nettles, overflowing bins and untidy toilets you had to queue for at all times of the day.
The situation was superb and peaceful as has been said but £15 for the night was not good value for money and only £3 less than the Caravan Club site nearby, which had superb facilities.
