Just spent a very relaxing week at High Yedmandale. Have to say that all the comments below are accurate. It is a lovely site, we are looking to return at half term in October already and it's a sure thing to see us there again for a week next summer.
The facilities are adequate, if you're looking for a fully tiled out wet room with hot and cold running chamber maids bringing you Champagne in you own hot tub. Forget it.
If you are after a perfectly usable set of loos and showers then they are great, the water's hot and the facilities clean and usable. Yes, there may be a bit of a queue for the shower but so what, it's a good way to meet the neighbours and swap tips on local attractions.
The drying room has a couple of pot wash sinks, fridge and freezer and a tumble dryer. It's not going to get packed out with people waiting as there's probably no more than a max of 30 units on site anyway! And seeing as most people stagger their ablution times, some are early risers, some leave it till the rush is over then you can see that it's not really an issue to queue for a few minutes!
There should be a sign up on the way in warning of free range children! This place is an active child's dream, no play area but loads of other kids to play with and room for all the ball games you could want, last night I counted 5 different games of cricket going on!
The dog loved it here too, there's some great walks just out the back of the site, rabbits to be chased and deer to watch too. Ken also allows dogs to run on the field next to the site if you just want to throw a ball for them rather than go for the 5mile forest hike.
The electricity didn't trip once, there's a couple of water points nearby so you're not ferrying water for miles. The grass is short but not too short and the site fairly flat, it does slope towards one end but not significantly. There aren't any marked pitches, just tell Ken how much room you need and he'll slot you in.
The road up is a bit of a lottery, if you are towing then you could have bit of a hard time if you met another vehicle towing but having said that we only encountered 3 cars on the track in the week we were there.
There's loads to do locally if that's your thing, Scarborough centre and beaches are 5miles or so away but they do get crowded, for a more relaxing seaside trip try Filey. Scarborough has a park and ride if you want to try the place out and there's all the major supermarkets in or around the town.
In the village of West Ayton there is a Spar shop with most things you'll need and a cracking chippy opposite, very limited opening hours but mahoosive portions! Ring up and it's ready when you get there.
There's a couple of pubs in the village too, we were recommended the Dennison Arms for food and a beer garden but declined it when we saw the 'beer garden' was half a dozen tables next to the busy car park, probably wonderful food but not really conducive to a family atmosphere.
We went to the Londesborough Arms in Seamer instead and found great food anyway (Thursday night is Curry night, batgain).
All in all, a basic site that doesn't suffer for the lack of facilities. It attracts the right sort of people, young families and active olders. It's not a theme park but it is a lovely pleace to be and just switch off with plenty to do just a few miles away too. Perfect.

We stayed here for a couple of nights as it was the first site we had booked using this site and I have to say it was a lovely place to stop,
Toilets and showers were clean and tidy as was the site, if you plan it right you miss the rush for the showers,
The single road to get to the site is very narrow and ok as long as you don't meet anything coming the other way, but if you do its an OMG moment
All in all a great site and the farmer, he is such a nice bloke and very friendly.

Just back from 3 days and we had a wonderful time. Ken & Isobel made us feel very welcome from the moment we arrived.
We were asked where on the site we would like to pitch to start our weekend, Ken gave us a run down of the facilities which were clean, washing up facilities and toilet block were very clean.
Atmosphere on the site was very friendly all weekend - very child friendly. The acres of fields surrounding the site did wonders to tire out a 9 month old Labrador ( well we tried ! ).
Be warned site is a good couple of miles from the main road - no pubs or shops on the way up to the site.

Reading all the reviews on this site is what made us choose it! I fully agree with everyone's comments. It's a beautiful location, ideally situated for visiting the nearby coast.
Bearing in mind this was the first sunny hot weekend of the entire year I expected a bit of mud, but due to the sandy soil it was beautiful grass. Again I would have expected the toilets to be muddy, bearing in mind the recent rain but they were spotless.
Ken is a lovely friendly chap and so is Boris the horse. This is obviously a popular site with like minded people camping here.

We visited this site for the first time last week during the half term holiday. We received a very warm welcome from Ken, we had a choice of pitches on the beautiful site.
All the facilities were cleaned to a high standard with plenty of hot water. The complimentary fridge/freezer and tumble dryer were a nice touch.
The site is a brilliant base for some breathtaking walks. We walked down to the Forge Valley and back through Ayton. We saw more wildlife than humans! (herons, frog, deer, pheasant and the usual farm animals).
A lovely site for decent folk who want to enjoy proper camping in the beauty of the North York Moors.
We can't wait to return in the Summer and use the site as a base for a cycling adventure!

We visited this site during the Half-term/Jubilee holiday week.
A lovely site, however it was absolutely packed, and consequently the toilets/showers were very busy with queues for both (I got up to shower at 5. 30 am on the last morning, so that I would be able to get in before we had to leave!)
Additionally the electricity kept tripping (due to number of people there and the very cold weather) and was completely out for an hour after a huge thunderstorm (with hailstones!) knocked out the relay station for a while.
The owner was extremely friendly and there was plenty to do in the area. We loved the campsite and would return - but hopefully when it was not so busy!

Just spent three mid-week nights here, and what an absolute pleasure it was. I know the area very well, so I knew it could hardly be a bad location but it really is stunning. The views, the wildlife (saw deer each day on the outskirts of the site), birdlife etc.
Loads of walking straight from the site, and with careful use of the OS map, plenty of cycling too. We did a ten mile circular walk that took in a gem of a pub (the Anvil at Sawdon).
Did Scarborough on the bikes from the site via the lovely Forge Valley. Located on the hardstanding area, views superb - nice, flat well kept grass areas too.
Facilities fine and well thought-out. Can see them getting busy at peak times, but that's the same everywhere.
The road in and out is a bit of a trek, but that's a very small price to pay for the relaxation, peace and quiet that awaits at the end.
Finally, a word for the owner. What a very helpful and friendly chap, comes round every morning to say hello and ask if all is well. That's a dying habit. Very knowledgeable of the area, and suggests things to do, see or walk/cycle too.
Cannot wait to return.

This is a great campsite!
It has everything I look for when booking such as a quiet location, beautiful surroundings but with good facilities too.
A lot has already been said previously that’s bang on the money, this is a stunning farm a little out of the way so you have masses of entertainment in Scarborough within easy distance but the complete quiet of the countryside. Don’t think for a second that this is just a field, there are 48 EHU points available, two large wet rooms showers, washing up facilities with hot water, a fridge and freezer, toilet block, etc.
Thankfully there isn’t a clubhouse, swimming pool or anything else that would take this beautiful farm into some horrible generic holiday camp, we have enough of them already if that’s what you want.
The campsite is just about perfect, loads of space, soft ground, well cut, free draining and it’s just a fantastic place to spend time. You are surrounded by fields; you can walk for miles so it’s perfect for Dogs and children who have loads of energy.
One of the women in our party found the toilets block a little dated and uncomfortable, the walls that separate the men and woman toilet sections are just piece of wood which are open at the top so there can be a lot of err, noises going on! We are a little spoilt these days because often we often find all-new purpose built toilet blocks on sites but it wouldn’t take much to throw up some breeze block walls to give the toilets a more substantial feeling. That said these are THE most immaculate toilets I have ever used on a campsite, they were absolutely sparkling!
The access road to the farm is a little agricultural in places and I wouldn’t recommend you try and take a car up it that has low ground clearance; my friends’ family car hit the ground in a few places but his exhaust just about survived.
As mentioned previously the owner Ken is always around, a really friendly guy and really, he does an excellent job with this site.
I highly recommend High Yedmandale Farm near Scarborough, to most of the members of this website it probably represents camping heaven.

This is a fantastic campsite plenty of open space for the children to play and the owner is very friendly and helpful. Our children loved to see the geese and the horse.
We have had a number of stays at this site in the past 2 years and we are returning for an 8 day stay as our main summer holiday this year. It is a fantastic base as there are lots of places to visit around the area, places we have visited are playdale farm, pickering steam trains, humanby gap, falling foss, and many more.
Its a very quiet and peaceful site, the toilets and showers are always clean and although we have a shower in our caravan we still use the one on site.

We stayed at this site last year in our tent and fell in love with the place. We have now bought a campervan and have spent two short breaks at High Yedmandale this year on the pitches along the dry stone wall at the front of the site.
There is a long drive up a narrow farm road to get to the site (and a gate to open half way along) but this has never been a problem for us. What you get at the end of this road is a site which feels as if it's in the middle of nowhere with no traffic noise and easy access to some wonderful walks.
Ken keeps the site beautifully maintained and whilst the shower/toilet facilities are limited, they are always clean.
This is a unique site with a wonderful atmosphere and we plan to return as often as we can.
