Just finished a week long camp at High Yedmandale with a group of friends and cannot recommend it enough. It is very spacious - unlike many campsites I have visited it doesn't overcrowd people and allows for plenty of space for games to be played. It is also an extremely friendly campsite - when I approached the owner asking if he knew of anywhere to go horse-riding he spent the next quarter of an hour phoning around to help us out. As with all the other reviews - only qualm is with the number of toilets, though this is a minor complaint and certainly didn't taint the experience for us. Will definitely be returning - although a tip for those used to living in town; there is no ambient light whatsoever so make sure to bring a powerful torch for late night toilet trips!

We visited this campsite in August and had an absolutely brilliant time!. (helped by the fact the weather was superb!) This site is beautifully peaceful and uncrowded, There is tons (flat) of space and even though there were around 30 units on the site, privacy was maintained. We felt that the situation of the site was everything we had hoped. Yes, there are only the two shower and toilet rooms but we struck up numerous conversations with interesting people whilst waiting to use the facilities and never had to wait for more that 15minutes. I believe an extra toilet (as promised by the site owner) will make a huge difference. The wildlife surrounding the site was in abundance, the owners incredibly laid back and I would have brought Boris (the Horse) home with me if I could have! This was one of the best camping holidays we've had in over nine years of camping and it was enjoyed by the adults and teenage children alike. If you like peaceful, people friendly, sites then I would thoroughly recommend this camp site.

A beautiful site that was quite busy over May bank holiday but quietened down over the 1/2 term week. You arrive down a single track lane - my oh was praying he didn't meet a caravan coming the other way - but it is so far away from the main road that it felt completely safe for the children to wander and play. There is a beautiful horse (Boris!) that the children fell in love with, and chickens and geese. You can wander into the woods at the rear of the site, where we saw owls at dusk, and had a lovely tranquil walk. There were other young families, so the site was peaceful after 9 pm when all the small people went to bed. Yes - you do have to queue for the toilet, and you end up having a shower every other day, because you're always aware that you are hogging the toilet facilities at the same time! But, that is our only niggle. The site is perfect for the beach, as well as the forest, and there are beautiful English Heritage properties around - make sure visit Reivaulx Abbey! The owners are friendly and very flexible with leaving times, and the price is fantastic. We would definitely come back again.

Just stayed here for 3 nights. Was impressed with the amount of space available. When we arrived, the owner told us to pitch anywhere we liked in the camping field. This was nice, as in some sites it can be very regimented. The camping field is large, but the owners restrict the number of units they allow, which means plenty of space. Plenty of walking paths through the adjoining forest. Scarborough was only a 10 minute drive away, and Whitby was only about 30 minutes away. Good for days at the beach. The only drawback was the toilet/shower facilities. They only had 2 toilets, and these are in the same room as each of the showers. Whilst we never waited for a shower, we did have to wait a couple of times for the toilet, as people were in the showers. However, the owner said they are looking to put in one or two more toilets (not showers), which would make things easier. The kids enjoyed it, even though there are no playground facilities. They were happy climbing in the trees and running round with kites and balls. For the price that is charged, you definitely can't complain. I would return. In fact, some friends who we were camping with are going to go back later in the summer.

I would like to say that this is the worst campsite ever so that no one stays here and I can keep it a secret all to myself. Unfortunately this is by far the best campsite on the East coast and it wouldn't be fair to the exceptionally nice owners if I didn't tell the truth! If you like good basic camping and don't mind queuing for the toilet every now and again then go to this site! Peaceful and secluded its absolutely superb and a wildlife haven in close proximity by car to the various coastal spots. I saw numerous hares, a deer and a fox and that was only in the designated dog walking field at the back of the camping field. The owners couldn't be more friendly and accommodating and it does just feel like your in the middle of nowhere. I would like to say its silent at night time but unfortunately the owls can make a bit of a racket?! Excellent! Go to this site and also go for a meal at the Dennison Arms in East Ayton and you cant go far wrong. A refreshing break from the office and city life! Needless to say our party of 4 adults all enjoyed our 6 night stay over the bank holiday weekend. Looks as though its great for kids too because there is so much room that they can scream and shout and play and do what they like without encroaching on anyone elses pitch and without parents worrying what they get up to.
A big thumbs up from me, we will definitely be going back next year and I can't wait.

What a fantastic site we went over the bank holiday weekend plenty of room to pitch scenery is lovely with great walks all around the site. The Dennison arms in west aryton serve meal with very large portions. East coast is is only a 10 min drive away. The owners ken and Isabelle are lovely people they even lent me some jump leads when my car would not start due to kid leaving the radio on all night. The toilet block is mostly clean but even when the site was quiet we found ourselves queueing as there are only two toilets we will defiantly be going back to this site.

We like quiet campsites in picturesque surroundings in the middle of nowhere. High Yedmendale suited us well - although we visited during the Easter Holidays (just after the Bank Holiday weekend), there weren't many people there and there was enough space for us to pitch in a far corner of the field miles from anyone else! Plenty of wildlife to spot - we saw bats as we ate our evening meals and badger sets near the site. The only disappointment is the toilet block. There are only two shower/toilets and even with the campsite as quiet as it was we still often had to wait to get in, and they often weren't very clean. Other than that it's a lovely and quiet campsite in a great setting and one I would recommend to others.

Just got back from here over Easter. Brill site, very basic but was very clean and owner friendly . The kids played the whole time in the tree we found the showers clean almost all the time and Ken the owner even lent us jump leads when our Friends car wouldn't start (due to kids leaving radio on all night) It's very good value, the views are stunning and so are the walks. Cant wait to go back.

We have just returned from a 3 night stay , the owners are really nice and friendly, we were advised to buy a map if we wanted to go for a walk in the woods next to the campsite, as it is very easy to get lost. Its a lovely location, about 2 miles up a gated road. close to many local attractions. The Pub in the next village was fantastic! The only thing is that I thought the toilets/showers were a bit grubby and weren't cleaned often enough. Having said that I would go back tomorrow we had a great time!

Stayed 1 night. Very quiet at the time - possibly due to a downpour earlier in the day. Nice location - saw a wild deer on the drive up to the site, definitely rural but close to civilisation when necessary. Local pub does fantastic meals, ginormous portions, reasonable prices. Owners very friendly, close to Scarborough and Whitby etc but far enough away if needed. Good clean facilities. Will be going again.
